You'd think that since they're on the back of a Space Whale, they could just build a catapult to throw their garbage into space rather than having a dump next to their village.
It would be a little concerning for games to punch through the (not actually technically all that strong; but culturally expected) boundaries between one another; but it would also be hilarious if the behavior of the space whale secretly depends on how you treated Onbu if you re playing Beyond These Stars on a computer that has The Wandering Village saves on it. Coddled the Onbu? Space whale is chill. Brutalized and dominated your dino-city? Shaken off and eaten like astro-krill.
Games with premise like these make me happy. The creative romantic ways did not give way for big moneymaking companies and braindead games with no charm whatsoever yet.
Nah, not really. Discworld is more of a nod to pre-existing myths and this bears no other resemblance to his work. It's an old trope. Both Hindu and Native Americans have myths involving worlds that are turtles.
I was listening to the game introduction and thinking "This sounds like the gameplay of Before We Leave". Turns out, this game is by the same developer! Could be considered a sequel, of sorts.
It's actually the sequel! One of the endings of Before We Leave lets you leave your planet behind and go live on the whale, and that's where this game picks up :)
Yes Splatty the internet will poison the space whales mind. This is becoming a sub-genre now, At least 2 other games like this, colony on the giant beast colony sim and 1 that it's a giant walking tree... Definitely like the art style.
I like the little bar in the warehouse interface that visualizes allocated and available space. It's not like the math is terribly tricky to do without it; but especially if you have a list of commodities long enough that you can't see them all it's nice to not have to do it all in your head. Perhaps this is a deliberate choice; but it would be kind of nice to be able to 'oversubscribe' by having access to both hard reservations(always leave X space for Y resource) and soft caps(store up to Z units of Y resource if you can do so without violating any hard caps).
I'm not sure why, but this feels like they had a really great idea and then kind of wasted the potential. Another city builder etc They rocketed up there and there could be all kinds of gadgets and craziness going on, but they are doing sawmills and potato farms?? Tbf though they do seem to have a slight mystery storyline running with it.
Heyo :), good news for every Mech Warrior fan in the chat ;3 There is a Mech Warrior total conversion mod for the game "Rusted Warfare" out there, which turns it into a really dope mech warrior RTS ❤ PS: Really interesting Kingdom Builder, waited for it a good amount of time :D
I played this a while ago when it first came out as EA, pretty cool game. EDIT: no wait, I was mixing this up with another game featuring a space whale called Before We Leave.
I dunno, there is something about the art style here I find really off putting. It reminds me of that obnoxious CalArts style which I guess I not-so-subconsciously associate with a lot of crap.
"that pre mise seems pretty good. that premise is HORRIBLE! everybody knows it's TURTLES that you build cities on who go flying through space. turtles. god.
I must say, I wasn't expecting the in-game character portrait to look this different from the art in the intro and the general game. It's nice art, but it does feels a bit out of place at first.
Soooooo.....Discworld, except on a whale instead of the Great A'Tuin, the giant space turtle. Check! Still, past that, it looks like a neat enough game.
Liking roads IS a Signal... You early stage Republican😂 (IS a joke btw) Also i liked that demo about wizards with guns... I Hope that Game does well. Very fun.
So... they jumped on the back of an interstellar space whale, emphasis on interstellar, and one of the probable, if not inevitable outcomes wasn't that it could at any point decide to yeet itself into the stars? Really? This guy is almost as dim as the scientists in Prometheus.
Walking dinosaur village, chapter 2 : SPACE.... Sorry; WHALE village, my mistake. Next they'll announce a wild and utterly ground breaking new premise set in magical island worlds, connected by pipes. As the masters of pipes, the hero of the story will of course be plumbers. Comic relief comes in the form of a talking toddler on a permanent helium high, donning a novelty shroom hat, accompanied by a pointless pink princess without family, guards, transportation, or so much as a change of attire. It's so crazy it just might work..... how DO they come up with these crazy ideas?! 🤯🤯🤯
You'd think that since they're on the back of a Space Whale, they could just build a catapult to throw their garbage into space rather than having a dump next to their village.
Yeah, but it seems some of the waste products get uses down the line. Like the wood waste getting burned for energy.
Space debris becomes hazardous for a spacefaring civ eventually unless the whale never plans on turning
we could send our trash to the sun then it's gone like they try to do with the satellites
If it has enough mass to hold an atmosphere via gravity then it would take a lot more than a catapult.
"The Wandering Village" IN SPAAAAACE

ye I was thinking 'the Leviathans Fantasy' +
Why I read this with Honest Trailer voice.

Coddled the Onbu? Space whale is chill. Brutalized and dominated your dino-city? Shaken off and eaten like astro-krill.
I m going in for the krill, I m doing it for the thrill
The voice actor telling the story has a amazing voice.
Sounds like Jared Harris, similar cadence as Neil Gaimin also.
Indeed some voice actors/narrators add a ton of quality to games just like the one from the stanley parable.
Really? Sounded like he had lisp.
New Zealand accent
LOL. Meadows looks almost the same as empty tile with grass, which is also, technically, a meadow.
Brrrrruuuuh. Pratchett senses are tingling I would buy this game on premise alone
The -turtle- _whale_ moves.
Needs 4 elephants
Splat, the moment you made that comment about the internet and toxicity I cracked up. Dead on! Also, my sides hurt. Thanks.
Games with premise like these make me happy. The creative romantic ways did not give way for big moneymaking companies and braindead games with no charm whatsoever yet.
Real art made with passion will never die, it might get pretty difficult to find under increasingly late stage capitalism though.
@@hansknickerbocker9202 Wasn't it Marx that said "Capitalism will eat its Vid games Bro?".
Well, he was a p2w mobile gamer.
This is such a nod to Terry Pratchett.

Hooded Horse really has taken over the excitement that Paradox used to bring.
I was listening to the game introduction and thinking "This sounds like the gameplay of Before We Leave". Turns out, this game is by the same developer! Could be considered a sequel, of sorts.
I think it is just outright a sequel, since wrangling a whale is something you do in the first game.
It IS actually the sequel
Weirdly it gives more backstory for 'Before we leave', the prequel, than the prequel itself did.
Looks like Before We Leave
It is it's direct sequel
@@Inucroft No way! I sank insane hours into that, this is mega hype
Imagine if, at 22:54 our boy Splat had clicked the very obvious tab labeled "Displayed Resources"? Imagine what might have happened?
Seems like another spin on "Before we Leave"
It's actually the sequel! One of the endings of Before We Leave lets you leave your planet behind and go live on the whale, and that's where this game picks up :)
Looks good. Adding this to my wish/watch list.
This game looks real nice, Timberborn on the back of a space whale.
This, Wondering Village and World Turtles are my jam. Something about living on a giant animal just appeals to me.
To be fair humanity irl is a road based builder
Yes Splatty the internet will poison the space whales mind. This is becoming a sub-genre now, At least 2 other games like this, colony on the giant beast colony sim and 1 that it's a giant walking tree... Definitely like the art style.
I guess space whale doesn't feel anything.
there's a whole ecosystem on the layer of soil that's built up, it's probably a ways down before you even hit it's hide
@@doltBmB Ok
I wasn't expecting the kiwi cuzzy accent at the start lol
Ikr. I was like… is that a kiwi? Nahhh…. Nope, it definitely is.
Devs are based in Dunedin :) .
The game looks awesome in the first 4 min, and a cool premise. Also excellent to see a NZ based developer releasing games.
Hooded Horse again, I've heard that name a lot lately on some good games.
11:40 goddamnit , you had one job

Splat! Do you know how Tyranids can survive in the Warp? ;-)
So there is nothing to worry about on the back of a Space Whale
Someone needs to hook this dev up with the Discworld IP because that would be an amazing game
The internet isn’t the problem, it’s public matchmaking.
When you think about it, the problem with Twitter is that it is all one big CoD lobby.
It's a good sequel

The Wandering Village in space! 🌌
That opening cinematic art does not jive with those character portraits very well.
Pave the Wales!
That Tumblr nose tho.
Who wouldn't want to live on a space Sin?
Thanks, Splatt.
Thanks for the overview.
2:46 more DEI sh-te.
A little while ago I had an idea for a game about a rogue planet with rocket boosters drifting through the galaxy. Guess I was beat to the punch lol
I'm lost on these "build a town/civilization on top of a living being" thing... but, thumbs up and comment to support the cause. ;)
Nice looking game.

Next game: Explore the ocean on a giant sea star

Can you wishlist and try out Mage & Monsters 2 when it releases? 🙂 thanks

I have to be careful watching your videos. You keep making me want to get too many games that I just don't have the time to play lol.

So where are the 4 elephants?
LOL - narrating voice actor is clearly a kiwi.
