In every D&D group I've been in through Facebook, I've been hearing people say Mighty Nein is better than Vox Machina. After watching the recap videos made by Dani Carr, I admit that I was intrigued and went about watching Episode One soon after. I'm about midway through it and I can safely say, it DOES have stronger video quality and the dialogue feels more amusing. But I think it stands equal to VM, in terms of appeal with me
I think it is hard to say. I like VM cause the Characters and the Players all feel Raw like us when we all started and you can see the that in how they played and how they interacted with another. Also every Character was Special, for me at least. In the Mighty Nein you see alot of the Raw Side gone. And you see a different Kind of Story telling from Matt. In VM he set a pace and made the Characters Backstory and their own Arc Play a mayor role in the Story. In MN he told a Story with them and Made their Arc something that is knitted in till the end and beyond. And with BH changed again his kind of Story telling. And yes all in all Mighty Nein is in many ways better. But without VM MN wouldn't be that good as it is.
I'm so excited for M9. For me my favourite thing is watching characters develop and seeing their personal quests and M9 had the most character moments of all 3 campaigns. VM is a very close second though. C3 isn't really for me though. It's super plot driven which isn't as much what I like. The great thing about CR though is that means there is a campaign for everyone, depending on what you like to watch 😁
Yea. It will sadly. Since they’re not willing to at all for campaign 1 to follow the actual chaos of the group to its fullest. And let’s be real… campaign 2 was more tamed besides jester
Vox Machina: First campaign Mighty Nein: First full campaign from start to finish Bells Hells: First full campaign from start to finish where Ashley's character is a permanent party member.
The most interesting part of that for me is that Pike really didn't do anything of importance off screen. Her absence was basically just whatever quick excuse they had so Ashley could work on Blindspot. They can basically skip her absence for most of the animated series. With Yasha, Matt actually gave her character something to do in between. That something to do was a lot of horrible and bloody stuff while mind controlled but still.
I hope they do use a slightly different style, though. I love LoVM’s style, but I feel like it would be cool for the two shows to have two different animation styles, to set them apart a bit.
Campaign 2 is my all-time fav and where I really started excited to see it animated I love the legend of vox machina but my excitement for the mighty nein is on a other level
We also love Vox Machina...but deep down we have to admit campaign 2 and the mighty nein is even better. The cast had clearly worked out the kinks from campaign 1, and it showed!
I can't wait to see M9 become animated. I do wonder how well they are going to adapt Molly's iconic coat. I understand something that detailed in an animator's nightmare.
While C3 has 3 of my favorite Critrole characters across all main campaigns (Laudna, Chet and Dorian to be specific, in that order) - Campaign 2 is still the definitive king of CR campaigns in my eyes. With campaign one, we were thrown into an established group and it relied on too many classical tropes for my tastes and campaign 3 is too overarching in scope I think. While i really enjoy all the recent developments, I can't help but think it's not really "organic", if that makes sense? I guess that's what Matt and the whole table decided to do together but it still feels somewhat off, especially compared to campaign two where the M9 were part of the story and vice versa. The world-ending threat Bells Hells are fighting just feels less personal, something that made the Mighty Nein so great and relatable I guess. That's why M9 is the most beloved campaign and will work best as an animated series, I think. The whole story revolves around our heroes and is shaped by them and their respective (back)stories instead of them just being thrown into it like in C1 and C3.
I definitely agree with that. While there is a lot of character stuff and worldbuilding I enjoy in C3, I can't shake the feeling that Matt went too far too fast with the Predathos plotline. We barely got to know the party and they were already facing end of campaign levels of threat. It really undercut from that feeling of natural progression you usually get in a DnD game. The Mighty Nein felt far more like a traveling adventuring party.
I just hope mighty nine is a different vibe and tone from vox machina. Dont use legend of vox machina as a template to cookie cut shows from, but try new things and genres even to make the different shows unique. It'll still have the critical role charm and characters we love no matter what.
I haven't keep tracks with any announcements they've been doing. But I really hope this runs like a tv series and you see the day to day like a good book. Compared to the action action of The legend of Vox Machina.
Liam admitted in an interview that because the two groups are so different, The Mighty Nein show will have a different tone. He didn't go into much detail but that sentence alone made me feel like they definitely know what they're doing.

I don't think credit sequence was for the MN animated series. I think it was for a Mighty Nien reunion episode that they about a year or so ago, which basically followed up on "where are they now?" so obviously Veth was there.
I do wonder if the Mighty Nein will translate as well to the audience for the animated series since it's not as traditional a story of just slaying monsters and many will see it as a sequel which have a history of not being as good as the original.
M9 is generally more popular among the fanbase than C1. The story is also a lot more linear thab C1 with less defined arcs and more cohesive all aroundness. Everything sort of comes together, even when the storylines feel separate. There's also a lot of revisited NPCs, so it feels like a tighter cast.
I never watched anything related from Critical Role beside the actual Legend of Vox Machina animated series, which I liked alot and it has a special place in my heart . Reading that alot of people loved more the Mighty Nine gives me high hopes for the next animated show
It's definitely a very different campaign. Vix machina is a much more classical fantasy story, relying on a lot of fantasy tropes and archetypes both in characters as well as the overall story Mighty Nein is very against type with a lot of original character concepts, but also, Chaotic as all heck! Best way I can describe is LoVM is like a good fantasy book, while mighty nein is much more akin to a real life d&d game story, with high highs and low lows and "a bunch of bumbling chuckle*ucks" as Matt put it.
Honestly I think starting where they did works in Vox Machina's advantage. It led to a more typical story for TV. And I think that is gonna be something that is harder for Mighty Nein. There is less this is a easy to break down as a coherent season with one story. Some seasons will probably have multiple stories. So I think them getting a fan base of noncritters put together with the more typical story along with the critters that already love this story is gonna help the Mighty Nein story
You could be right, but we think getting to see the FULL zero to hero journey, not picking up midway like campaign 1 did, could have more benfits that pitfalls. But we will find out in 2025!
I think you have a point, and I don't think the story will follow the campaign beat for beat. We'll see whether there is heavy adaptation and whether that's a good or a bad thing. I trust the team (especially after working on Vox Machina) to make an amazing show for critters and new fans alike
@@boatfloat1248 I for sure trust them. I just also think starting off with something more typical was to their benefit both in getting noncritters in and for them to learn different sides than they had to in the past. But I'm fully excited for the Mighty Nein animated show also and can't wait to see how they handle it. Also think it's gonna be hilarious for certain things. For instance they are gonna have to do build up on going to pirate island cause lots of character plot was involved on the way there only to get kicked out before the audience can truly see anything.

2:46 I think your entire argument about this is just... wrong. Like totally wrong. Idk what bone you have to pick about C1 but it's simply completely inaccurate.
I like M9 more, the characters are more interesting to me, but that's like comparing gold to diamonds, I wont turn down either. But I feel they intentionally did that, VM was just generic classes and they played them as such, M9 feels like they were designing their characters for entertainment value and constantly pushed the rule of cool to its limits
Hearing just recently about Sam's fight with cancer and everything that has entailed for him I really hope that, now while he is recovering and has made the information public it won't impact fan perception of Mighty Nein Series. For those unaware they released a video on the main channel so I would highly recommend watching that, but Sam found out he had cancer in his throat. Part of the recovery has been him learning how to talk again which I can't even imagine as myself going through that, but for Sam who I imagine a lot of his identity is tied to his ability to talk and sing and tell stories was likely a hellish experience. All this to say, if Nott doesn't sound exactly like Nott I know the core fanbase won't make a stink about it, and I hope that if it does come up people do the right thing and tamp down the flames of any negative feedback by simply educating those unaware. Last and most importantly, F Cancer.
Yes! Its true that Vox Machina has a special place in my heart, I think the Mighty Nein is far My favorite, then Daggerheart, and then Vox Machina. I still love everything they do the shows got me through a lot personal stuff. I cant wait for 2025! M9
I didn't get into CR until Campaign 2 so my first exposure was the Mighty Nein so my hype is through the roof with this news. I also expected M9 to do better than Vox Machina on an animated series. C1 was more of the classic epic fantasy but C2 was more of a Dark Fantasy with lots of heavy drama which i think will translate better to being a series.
My most memorable moments from the Mighty Nein campaign were, in no particular order, Mollymauk Tealeaf being killed off after a blood maledict knocked him unconscious, Yasha being rescued after Caduceus Clay dispelled a charm effect on her, Beauregard snapping out of her own charm effect using Stillness Of Mind and killing off Obann the Punished!!
I like every season, they're different, but the mighty nein has very compelling characters with deep personal stakes, particularly interesting twists and quirks and a campaign story with multiple mysteries intertwined that made quite an effect on the suspense
Oh, we think the animated Vox Machina is even better than the campaign was, for exactly those kind of reasons. They can smooth out or trim out the rough spots!
Also, both the og and animated Mighty Nein will be products of what critical role now has experience doing. Mighty Nein had a cleaner story and I suspect the animation will too. They know a liittle more about what they're doing now.
I'm far more excited for MN than I am for VM. I'm only on Episode 77, but it feels so easy to adapt in terms of the character moments/humor and the arcs.
Mighty Nine was also a lot of people's first exposure to critical role in the first place. Vox machina was the start. They were fairly small compared to how much they've grown even just throughout campaign one.
I think it will do much better as they had also got their comedy chops better tuned in campaign 2 than 1 and it comes across during the whole thing through all their characters
Pacing is always going to be a point of Fan contention with these shows.... most Die Hard Critters will always wish that there is more and more... but Amazon will only buy soo much and It's a Completely different Medium for the story.... in it's Nature.. it needs to be Condensed...Draw in More Fans but still giving Incredible Character and Call Back moments that will keep Critters happy while not alienating Newer Fans.... Look at your Cast..... They are all very experienced Anime Voice Actors that Essentially understand transferring a Manga to Anime (which is Kinda what they are doing)... and that process is never as in depth but always more Widely Popular.. I would LOVE to see EVERY moment from all of the campaigns put into this format.. to go on that Ride All Over Again, it's just not possible...😅( Obviously, the Huge benefit from doing it, Is that More People will WANT to Dive Deeper!!) We Only need to Trust in the Cast and know that the Show is the BEST expression of something they Know ALOT of us care about.. I think they have More than Earned that Trust through the Years of this Rise and the countless shout-outs and contributions they have taken from Critters!! I am SUPER Hype for tomorrow and I hope Everyone Enjoys it as Much as i Do!
All im going to say is.... BRING IT! I have been waiting for so long to have M9 animated with a big animation studio backing it up! I CANT WAIT!!! 😀😀😀😀
I can’t wait to see m9 adapted. For me personally, I like Vox machina but it was very typical fantasy. But the m9 had a lot more unique characters and fantasy. Especially the final arc weird magic. Mercer was absolutely, just, Cook’in! with that arc.
Yessss omg!! Im looking forward to a special Cajun tortle navigator Orly Skiffback!! Possibly my fav NPC theyve done so far. (Aside from Henry the no grabass Crabgrass)
For those who want to know about the ommited character, it was a character named Tiberius. He was a pc controlled by another player and was a Drgonborn Sorcerer. Unfortunately said player had a few problematic issues that lead to him getting kicked out of the campaign.
I’m calling it! The first fight with Lorenzo is going to cap the first season! There is so much that happened in the first arc that sets up other plot points. Especially one that involves Fjord, IIRC
I agree. If you take the M9 campaign as a written story, it is definitely much better than the story of VM overall. more fleshed out and well rounded at the very least. Maybe they make the M9 show a bit longer, I'd definitely be down for that. So many memorable moments that I'd love to watch animated.
Ive Bee a pretty hardcore CR fan since month 2 of there stream and m9 is my favorite. More exact m9 after molly died. Love duce, Tal played him so perfectly and Ashton from bells hells is dope too.
I am wicked excited for M9. Im wildly excited to see what they do with it. I am almost positive they will leave out something that i will be really sad gets left out. IDK what those things will be, but given the nature of adaptation and the fact M9 was so dense- I'm just gonna come to grips with that now. 😂
We think it just started so disjointed (robbie being there than leaving, Bertrand dying and getting replaced by Chetney) that it kinda stumbled out of the gate when it came to some fans buying into the series. But right now it's really hitting it's stride!
Totally agree. BH had some headwinds, but love these characters so much. Their story, for me, is so much more emotionally impactful. It may not be as much out and out fun as M9, but the very recognizable personal challenges of these characters is great and rife with pathos. Plus they’ve allied with an ancient symbiotic mushroom, titan’s souls, an archfey hag and two villains. Not to mention all the dynamics between the characters: Imaudna, Chet being a colorful pain in the dupa, Fearne is light and breezy but incredibly self-possessed, FCG was the kind of positivity that we all need (depending on stress), and Orym is so relatable. And Ashton is just the worst half the time, in the best way, as some one who lets his damage get in the way, but is trying to work through it. these characters are great if you want a story where the characters aren’t just overcoming the world, but their own problems and it’s exciting to watch them barely hold it together, but still managing to eek out their wins.
@TheCharacterSheet I may be Completely off base here, but Dorian always felt like a tongue in cheek nod to Tiberius in VM. You know, a guy from a floating city who sticks around so long that you think he's a permanent fixture and then one day he's just gone.
Hard agree. To me it feels like a much more serious and focused campaign with a lot of focus on the inherent flaws of the characters and party dynamics. As fun as M9 was, ive been enjoying the more consistent pace of BH and the more relatable tone of story. A lot of fucked up people trying to do good in the world and make the best with what they have.
Bells Hells made mistake, i saw in season 1. MN had the big pro, that we saw a group in a small town slowly progress to become an actual party and travel the countryside in a 0815-party development route. This gives a strong fundament for new settings. BH gives us a group, that formed with no good initial reason for it, had 2 main actors leave in the first act and dumbed us into a lush rainforest with hard to understand scenery and background worldbuilding. start easy, build up was ignored.
yo CALEB ? BEAUREGARD ? JESTER ? Those have SO MUCH personnalities and unlimited interaction. You cannot leave their cult. (And I love Other char too!)
As someone who doesn’t have time for the campaign lengths of their actual play, I watched the Legend show as first contact. I don’t think the show has pacing problems.
i hope they give the studio that did the animated intro of Mygh9 a chance for this, they knocked it out of the park, got it just right on every angle. i agree the vox machina series was very flawed had a hard time getting into and enjoying it.
I LOVE VM, i LOVE M9, but i LIKE BH. Right now im watching VM agian, just becouse i LOVE the characters soooo much. Also i cant wait until season 3 comes for VM!!!!!
I like the Mighty Nein slightly more just due to the fact they were able to make their “stage presence” aspect of the character right off the bat, like they didn’t have to make “edgy Scanlan” PG-13 or rework character designs to help stage production, the second campaign was just “better” all around where as Vox Machina had good characters come from a “confusing production origin”
While M9 is more popular among fans, a bonus in terms of translating to animation, was that Vox machina started at lvl 10, which means they had alot more abilities. M9 Startet at lvl 1 which means they are going to have a problem with power scaling when it comes to the animation. Also, the characters of Vox, while great, a very achetypical in terms of fantasy tropes. M9 absolutely isn't, so I am not sure they will translate as well to non CR fan/mainstream viewers. That being said, I couldn't be more excited to see what they do with the M9 animation :D
So we skipping content for season 3 then or just ending the show after the Chroma Conclave? There’s no way campaign 1 can be finished in the next 12 episodes so having Mighty Nein which takes place 20 years after the end of campaign 1 release after season 3 seems weird.

2:46 I think your entire argument about this is just... wrong. Like totally wrong. Idk what bone you have to pick about C1 but it's simply completely inaccurate.
I just want to see Sprinkle "survive" . Plz let Travis voice him.
I would love a one off episode of all the pets being animated and talking at some point it would be perfect for a single episode
I think it will be great because it was the start of critical role becoming The juggernaut it is today
Mighty Nein has so much chaos and shenanigans that the show could be insane
Thanks for touching on the"hurdles" because I thought that happened during the Nein campaign
I'm excited for the rescue mission reunion I low key teared up when Nott uttered the words "Case closed" to Jester.
I wonder if Taliesin will voice Lucien or if Matt will, I suppose it will be Taliesin? I’ll be interested to see Taliesin’s take
I hope they will take their time and keep the quality high, or even higher!
Mighty Nine made me a critter, so yeah cant wait for the fluffernutter!
I actually liked the animated series of Vox Machina since they introduced to the big bad's early.
Oh, we think the animated Vox Machina is even better than the campaign was, for exactly those kind of reasons. They can smooth out or trim out the rough spots!
We got our first little taste recently of what it’s going to look like and it looks very much like Vox Machina’s animation style I’m all here for it
I need the animated version of Jesters cupcake in my life.
Solid break-down, thank you for this! MN are my favorite, I can't wait to have an abridged version of their story to show my family!
Cool! I've never heard of the Mighty Nein, but I'm enjoying Critical Roll while I paint DnD minis
I think it will do much better as they had also got their comedy chops better tuned in campaign 2 than 1 and it comes across during the whole thing through all their characters
Hyped for Mighty Nein animated.
The M9 campaign was their best one IMO. They were so comfortable in those characters. I can not wait for this serious.
I would LOVE to see EVERY moment from all of the campaigns put into this format.. to go on that Ride All Over Again, it's just not possible...😅( Obviously, the Huge benefit from doing it, Is that More People will WANT to Dive Deeper!!)
We Only need to Trust in the Cast and know that the Show is the BEST expression of something they Know ALOT of us care about.. I think they have More than Earned that Trust through the Years of this Rise and the countless shout-outs and contributions they have taken from Critters!!
I am SUPER Hype for tomorrow and I hope Everyone Enjoys it as Much as i Do!
Never heard of them but I'm incredibly excited to learn more!
Can you imagine them all coming together???? Like a dnd avengers thing, I know they're the same actors I mean the animated characters 😅
I’m so excited for the Nein!!! I hope they do it justice!
Gosh I can’t wait for The Laughing Hand to be animated
Can't wait!
All im going to say is.... BRING IT!
I have been waiting for so long to have M9 animated with a big animation studio backing it up! I CANT WAIT!!! 😀😀😀😀
Also Jester and Nott are 2 of the most entertaining characters in all of critical role
I can’t wait to see m9 adapted. For me personally, I like Vox machina but it was very typical fantasy. But the m9 had a lot more unique characters and fantasy. Especially the final arc weird magic. Mercer was absolutely, just, Cook’in! with that arc.
I NEED to see the cupcake episode. ❤
Characters in VM are very good, but in MN they brought them to another level of empathy and complexity. That is my preferred campaign so far.
I CANNOT WAIT
I’m calling it! The first fight with Lorenzo is going to cap the first season! There is so much that happened in the first arc that sets up other plot points. Especially one that involves Fjord, IIRC
"Do your own research" ?? why the Hell are we watching this?
I can’t wait for the Mighty Nein! I am so so excited!
Intriguing or not I’d watch that animated
While I love drama and characters from Vox Machina (Scanlan Spurt! How Can I forgot about the Mighty Spurt!
I just hope the Mighty Nein animation will be at the same level, quality, and finish that Vox Machina has had.
Not bells hells being the least favorite 🥹🥹
Campaign 3 is my favorite
I'm hyped for Mighty Nein Animated Series. Let Critical Role Cook
I loved Mighty Nine, it's gonna be insane.
WoW can't wait, until The Mighty Nein is released...
Bells Hells deserves sum more love
I don’t think the show has pacing problems.
yeah, I genuinely don't understand what pacing issues it has. and I'm a long time fan of CR
M9 just hit differently. Will always be my favourite group
Vox Machina
The Mighty Nein
Tales of Velvet Ballad
i hope they give the studio that did the animated intro of Mygh9 a chance for this, they knocked it out of the park, got it just right on every angle.
i agree the vox machina series was very flawed had a hard time getting into and enjoying it.
Yes!
I’m more concerned who’s gonna voice Molly, is it still gonna be sir Tal? Or someone who can pull both a broken and pure Irish accent?
I LOVE VM, i LOVE M9, but i LIKE BH. Right now im watching VM agian, just becouse i LOVE the characters soooo much. Also i cant wait until season 3 comes for VM!!!!!
so hyped, cant wait
I like the Mighty Nein slightly more just due to the fact they were able to make their “stage presence” aspect of the character right off the bat, like they didn’t have to make “edgy Scanlan” PG-13 or rework character designs to help stage production, the second campaign was just “better” all around where as Vox Machina had good characters come from a “confusing production origin”
I wonder how the Mighty Nein show will deal with meetings with Keyleth.
I’m very hyped for it can’t wait
11.3 million dollars raised to make the show. still couldnt be asked to put it online for free...
WELCOME TO THE MIGHTY NEIN!!!!!!! - Kiri
Pretty sure it was actually level three but your point still stands.
@@Blasted2Oblivion BH started at 3, M9 started at 1, but you are right, either way.
jester vs the hag will have me feral
LETS GOOOOOO!
Peoples are not ready to have thier hearts rip out by that series
So we skipping content for season 3 then or just ending the show after the Chroma Conclave? There’s no way campaign 1 can be finished in the next 12 episodes so having Mighty Nein which takes place 20 years after the end of campaign 1 release after season 3 seems weird.
Im so excited!
Finally, Yasha will get a complete storyline not broken by Ashley not being available to play her.
