Carlin is such an inspiration. I'm not going to pretend he is perfect, but his message is so clear and honest. That's something you don't find very often with celeberity's.
Listening to Carlin makes me feel so liberated. It makes me want to stop all of the boring everyday 9 to 5 shit in my life, and go chase a dream or something. I write stand up when I'm bored, but I haven't worked up the courage to get on stage. I guess I should; "just stop giving a shit". Right? Listen to myself.
I am glad I was directed to this video. I had never seen it before. I am also glad I turned my son and daughter onto George Carlin. They both remember the Carnegie Hall Special well and can quote many lines from it. "Rice Krispies...Riding proudly in the milk" A whole colony. George Carlin remains awesome and a very great influence on me and my children.
I'm a writer and an artist, and I can tell you that when I finally started taking anti-depressants to combat my persistent depression, my creativity went out the window. I was like a zombie. I finally stopped taking the prozac and started smoking pot every day... honestly, I'm back to my old self and my depression is for the most part under control. Weed is actually very useful for self-medicating depression.
I was lucky enough to see him twice in the last 4 or 5 years, always a cherished moment in my life because he was the first comedian I really listened to and he'll always be my favorite
I discover him like 10 months ago.I have to admit that I've never heard of him before. And since the very moment, he caught my attention and I became a junky of his comedy and philosophy. I got the great honor of seeing him live on May 2 2008 at the Calvin Theater in Northampton MA. It feels like I lost a very dear friend.. I'm just immensely glad that I came along one of his HBO special by mere coincidence and got to see him perform live in less than a year.. Thanks George Carlin R.I.P buddy..
he makes you think more about life, its not depressing. He questions everything and tries to make sense of our life's. He is truly the best comedian ever.
through out history there have been many important people in life. But this man was not just a comedian, but a philosopher. I look up to him more than my dad.
I love this...I have the whole 3 hour unedited interview downloaded and I burned it to DVD. he is a huge influence and inspiration to me as comedian as well as politically and philosophically. Neat that this sass on son December 17th 2007, which was the same date I had a comedic new anchor role in a middle school play...a great coincidence.
Carlin was unique in the way that he didn't strech anything. He always told us like it is. Sometimes it even seemed that he din't want to be funny, he wanted to open our eyes.
I hope to do such a thing. George Carlin is one of a very short list of my heroes. He is by far the funniest man to have ever walked this earth and deserves the respect of everyone in the world.
im only 23, and honestly i wish i had been around long enough to see him throughout his career. its hard to find the ed sullivan stuff. carlin was a master at getting people to think while he made them laugh. We need him now more than ever. He will be greatly missed
A wise man is not someone who knows all, but he does know himself. He's someone who has accepted himself and doesn't hide from his flaws or run from his fears.
He dug deep and made you think. His voice rang true and will reverberate for all time. Cheers that Carlin didn't fit and swam against the tides. May his doors of perception always remain open.
When you really listen to what the man is saying, you know he must never have stopped thinking, allways thinking things over, looking for more ways to attack touchy objects. Its a shame no-one will prelace the man, he will be missed.
Worlds Greatest Renagade! George was a great man who said what he thought and made us all think about it....That is a great man in any standard. Though he had his faults as we all do, he was a great entertainer that will be remembered for many, many, many years to come.
Georgie, you know we all love you It's a little bit hard to me to translate all what you say here but, you taught me a lot of very important things for my life and I'm following your advices 'cause I know they are my right way... and, we'll never forget you, Georgie...
Very deep starting at 5:15 about his self realization and how he didn't fit and was different... at that time he stopped doing things to please EVERYONE ELSE and started doing this to please himself....wise, but dangerous words
George Carlin was a genius. He has been doing this since his college age days where he used to go from college to college with his preformance and his ability to pull on the "days" events enabled him to make comedy of what the "normal" people fell into line with. He will be missed.
I am not sad that he is gone, The fact that we lost one of the most briliant people on this round blue and green ball is sad. I have nothing but good memorys and respect for this man and he did the most amazing and memorable things ive ever seen. im just happy that he was able to make anything and open our eyes to feel how controlled we are.. This man is born a hero and he died a hero. Enjoy seeing the world go to shit!
Oh man, it's great to hear Carlin talk like this. He really was passionate and self-conscious to the end. Not just some comic setting up some generic pins and knocking them down again, but a true artist.
Geroge Carlin was a brilliant comedian, who's specialty was A)Spotting contradictions in human behavior and society and B)Poking fun at inconsistencies in the way we express ourselves thru language, words and phrases. He was also a harsh social critic and he was an "Equal opportunity offender"---He took no political sides and supported no causes. I miss his brutal honesty and his hilarious cynicism.
george carlin: the one man who, out of all the assholes on youtube and in the world, who i have seen not one person badmouthing him. and its well earned. the man was amazing RIP
I can relate with George Carlin. To be rebellious and always have your very own opinion on things can really be a problem in some spheres of life like school, but in the end, that type of person like George Carlin for example, will be remembered as someone great, not just a fucking sheep like most people are, taking orders, never thinking for themselves.
lets not close the door for new ones though, but i agree with you. carlin, bill hicks, richard pryor, lenny bruce where the legends in my eyes. ricky gervais could maybe make it as a legend with me, with a few more shows
it's a good thing my generation got to see things like this. George gave me the knowledge to realize that people will gladly tell you that you are wrong and that you need to change in a die hard christian or whatever, but that's bullshit, i don't need to change my fuckin values. They're MY values anyway
Many Thanks to my colleague in Denver for introducing this great 'old fuck' to me (people from India don't know the George Carlins of this world). The guy has changed my thought and perspective. Many people can't still accept me, but atleast I like myself now. Frankly, I don't want another Carlin to be born. He is too good to be duplicated.
it's so funny when people say "he's full of anger" and what not. he really wasn't (you can see by the interview) it's just his "act", sure he means what he says but he isn't always (as Kevin Smith put it) "he wasn't always doing his act, he was a guy you could talk to and have a conversation with"
"I didn't give a shit. It's important in life to not give a shit, it can help you a lot. Sooo I didn't give a shit..." Lol that made my day. George Carlin is more like a political philosopher than a comedian
I didn't even know his name until after he died. I've since researched his material on RUclips. You didn't miss anything; he just would have made you either depressed or angry.
I'm a comic, and months ago, I did (IMHO) a brilliant joke that bashes religion, namely Catholics (I grew up Catholic). It was harsh, but funny. But my mistake was that I did it in a smallish city in Nebraska, right in the Bible belt. There was about a 45sec long "OOH!!" Comics know that 45sec feels years when you're not speaking. That was halfway through my 15 minutes, then the crowd went cold. That was my revelation that it's okay to stray from the pack. It's just location, location, location!
@BestOfTheBestNumber9 Your name is an apt title. That was the best of the best posts I've read about this video. =) I agree with you. It is really one once in a generation that the quintessential artist of his/her era emerge into the collective consciousness. Carlin goes beyond that. He was the comedian of my father's generation, and then he was the comedian of my own. It was an amazing thing watch an aging artist continually grow and expand even until his dying day. Inspirational.
@youlookalittletense Yeah that must have been it. Sadly that sometimes happens. My uncle was in his 50s and completely healthy, but he suddenly got sick, developed pneumonia and died.
I always find it interesting that most people who are against anything have never engaged in what they're against; or never really gave it a chance. I've drank and smoked pot. I don't anymore, but the very experience changes your view because being drunk or high isn't what you'd think it would be like prior to the experience. Same with sex, breaking a bone, or any experience that alters what you normally think and feel it will by default change your attitude and perception.
It takes a special kind of person to make you feel better whenever you hear them.
Carlin is such an inspiration. I'm not going to pretend he is perfect, but his message is so clear and honest. That's something you don't find very often with celeberity's.

He seemed like a cool guy. I'm glad I saw him live. Love it when he said, "It's important in life if you don't give a shit. It can help you a lot."
Won't see a stand up like this again! R.I.P mr.Carlin
R.I.P. George Carlin (1937-2008)

Holy crap, did George just laugh? Never thought I'd seen that.
I was lucky enough to see him twice in the last 4 or 5 years, always a cherished moment in my life because he was the first comedian I really listened to and he'll always be my favorite

He's not just a comedian, he can manage to tell the truth with humor!!!!
I hope to do such a thing. George Carlin is one of a very short list of my heroes. He is by far the funniest man to have ever walked this earth and deserves the respect of everyone in the world.
Carlin & RIchard...Best ever! R.I.P. to both of them!
im only 23, and honestly i wish i had been around long enough to see him throughout his career. its hard to find the ed sullivan stuff. carlin was a master at getting people to think while he made them laugh. We need him now more than ever.
He will be greatly missed
My oh my time is indeed fleeting. I ask two eighteen year old's who George Carlin was and they didn't have a fucking clue..
A wise man is not someone who knows all, but he does know himself. He's someone who has accepted himself and doesn't hide from his flaws or run from his fears.
Hey, I was at that show too. 5th row back. The only person to give him a standing ovation when he came out and when he left.
He dug deep and made you think. His voice rang true and will reverberate for all time. Cheers that Carlin didn't fit and swam against the tides. May his doors of perception always remain open.
"It's important in life if you don't give a shit, it can help you a lot." Truer words have never been spoken.
RIP Mr. Carlin...I never got a chance to meet you except thru your work and i regret it. You will be missed. RIP
him and bill hicks man. hard to believe theyre gone
When you really listen to what the man is saying, you know he must never have stopped thinking, allways thinking things over, looking for more ways to attack touchy objects.
Its a shame no-one will prelace the man, he will be missed.
This is amazing
I'm so sad he's gone! This man is literally my hero...To hip for the room indeed!
Worlds Greatest Renagade! George was a great man who said what he thought and made us all think about it....That is a great man in any standard. Though he had his faults as we all do, he was a great entertainer that will be remembered for many, many, many years to come.
We were lucky enough to see George Carlin live at the Orleans Hotel & Casino June 13. It was a last-minute decision...glad we made it.
Georgie, you know we all love you
It's a little bit hard to me to translate all what you say here but, you taught me a lot of very important things for my life and I'm following your advices 'cause I know they are my right way... and, we'll never forget you, Georgie...
George Carlin is my best contemporary poetry speker !!! Deep spiritual, life, teaching! The Interview is only for TV...
Very deep starting at 5:15 about his self realization and how he didn't fit and was different... at that time he stopped doing things to please EVERYONE ELSE and started doing this to please himself....wise, but dangerous words
I really hope my own mind stays sharp until the end like his did.
4:03 - 4:07 Absolutely fantastic!!
George Carlin's birth was a gift to humanity.
Man, when you hear this man talk, you can learn a lot.
Will the Archive be posting the entire (almost four-hour) interview? Many Carlin fans would love to see it in its entirety.
One of the truly great people in modern history. To bad not more people are capable of advenced thinking.
I love how he pops into the "persona" for a split second at 5:07
George Carlin, positively vicious, fearless, extremely intelligent and most of all very truthful! R.I.P old buddy,we greatly miss you!
George Carlin was a genius. He has been doing this since his college age days where he used to go from college to college with his preformance and his ability to pull on the "days" events enabled him to make comedy of what the "normal" people fell into line with. He will be missed.

Danny Kaye. He was an actor in the 1940's and 50's. Was in White Christmas with Bing Crosby, among other things.
It seems he left us right when we needed him the most.
One word to describe this wonderfull human being.."REAL"
It's great to have Carlin himself perfomring his own bio like this: Otherwise you'd have to listen to others talk about him.
Ahhh, Carlin, Carlin, Carlin...
...the world is a much duller place without ye. :(
May his spirit forever live in the people who respect him.
God, this guy was so honest.
My favorite Comic! The passing of a great is so sad
The point of society is to produce people like him.
someone's gotta go a movie about george and his life
pure genius...proof that there is genius in honesty
AMAZING TALENT . R.I.P brother
George Carlin was Smart interesting and amazing ...miss you
there goes one of the greats. George Carlin, RIP.
hey is there a part 2 to this? cause it seems like it cuts off pretty abruptly
Oh man, it's great to hear Carlin talk like this. He really was passionate and self-conscious to the end.
Not just some comic setting up some generic pins and knocking them down again, but a true artist.
Well said.
Geroge Carlin was a brilliant comedian, who's specialty was A)Spotting contradictions in human behavior and society and B)Poking fun at inconsistencies in the way we express ourselves thru language, words and phrases. 4.22 of all the videos on youtube, this is the first time I've seen George Carlin smile
george carlin: the one man who, out of all the assholes on youtube and in the world, who i have seen not one person badmouthing him. and its well earned. the man was amazing RIP

I'm pissed i won't ever meet him since there is no afterlife :,(
The hole interview?! Any link?

Shows how writing and reading not only keeps you from becoming a neo-con sloth, but it sharpens your mind.
miss ya!!! from argentina..

George and Sam, we will miss you. You represent a seperate kind, not the sheep...I mean the fucking sheep.

@ed4409 You can find most of his 14 HBO stand up specials right here on youtube.

Around 5.00, he says he dreamt of being Danny Something. Could anyone tell me who he was talking about?
Love you George Carlin... Classic
"I didn't give a shit. It's important in life to not give a shit, it can help you a lot. Sooo I didn't give a shit..." Lol that made my day. George Carlin is more like a political philosopher than a comedian
Is the full version of this interview publicly avaliable anywhere?
ah frig..it was the right video...i think it's time for sleep...forget this and last post...please post first one...going to bed....
'It can be helpful to not give a shit.. so I didn't give a shit!..' haha oh George
RIP MAN YOUR THE BEST!!!
I didn't even know his name until after he died. I've since researched his material on RUclips. You didn't miss anything; he just would have made you either depressed or angry.
Why not post the entire intervew?
" I HAd couple of bad trips but I had alot of great trips ." lol

Fascinating! The great, great George Carlin!
He said so in the video. At 8:00 he said he took Mescaline and Acid. In case you don't know, LSD and Acid are the same thing.
Good thing he gave that interview so close to his death... there is just so much insight in this.
I always find it interesting that most people who are against anything have never engaged in what they're against; or never really gave it a chance. I've drank and smoked pot. everybody relates to george :) hes my hero , my 2nd father
I'm definitely liking that Ed Sullivan impression at 4:04. :)
George Carlin is a value changing drug.
One of the coolest men to walk the planet.
@WhoJoo Atleast the latest.. Hopefully we will have new ones. Never one as great as George, though.
@SeveredFootLoki I like the way you capitalized Atheism there, Loki. That says a lot. I'm glad you were able to find your faith.
lucky you saw him live, sadly I never got the chance :(
