I have one it's a really nice car. Didn't want to even look at it because of my own bias but was shopping 3 row suv's, palisade, atlas, outlander, traverse, Acadia, Pathfinder by far was my favorite and its fast and I use its speed on the highway every day avoid terd drivers. I Actually really like this car and it was also the cheapest one. Would highly recommend from a gmc technician....or listen to crocodile dundees cousin and and hate on in true tribalism fashion.
Same just got one and love it!
@@denny-menny I'm in Chicago and blow by other suvs in the snow like a boss
This guy’s car videos have the highest dislike ratio for a reason.
He likes the Korean over priced crap cars like the hyandai and kia. He gets paid by them.
Same, just bought a SL premium a week ago and so far I absolutely love it.
I have a ‘23. Thank goodness it’s under warranty. I had all these fixed.
Front collision camera
Memory seat module
Fuel pump
Battery (OE crapping out in sub zero temps)
New tires (tear in the sidewall of the Bridgestones).
Little infotainment glitches.
Imagine if every day news was delivered with such an absence of BS. Love your videos and channel John. Thank you.
Absence of BS? Never seen anything with so much BS upon BS.
2023 Pathfinder is one of the best SUVs you can purchase.
Solid build, comfortable ride, excellent features for the price.
I'm so glad I went with it over other more expensive SUVs
I kind of like the Pathfinder. I guess we're the exception.
thanks for your review im buying one in Perth!
Yeah, this guy makes it sound like the most terrible vehicle out there. For the price and what you get along with the reliability, its not bad at all. Very misleading video.
I hope you don't have oil sludge, even with diligent oil changes like I did. I have PTSD from this vehicle. It almost financially ruined me.
Nissan will tell you to get effed when you have a warranty claim.
I don't know whether I could entrust a Sorento 1.6 Turbo PHEV with moving more than 2.5 tonnes of car plus accupants and their luggage on a long highway trip once the battery is depleted after 68km (or even less in this case) as we know that there is not much energy regeneration in highway driving conditions. To the office however, it sounds perfect, but would I buy a Sorento to drive it to the office? Am I missing something here?
Once upon a time before Nissan got involved with Renault, and now Stellantis, they made some really good cars. Cars that were on par with Toyota. Sometimes with even better engines. I'm now a Nissan hateboy, although I drive a 2001 Sunny the last facelifted model of a car that came on the market in 93. Rock solid, sleek little economical shitbox, on par with the Corollas of the day. I ❤ this Sunny with no abs, no airbags, no catalytic converter, no egr, and no problems whatsoever. ☺👍
Datsun before they became nissan
Stellantis actually bought out Dodge/ Chrysler/ fiat
@@wickedleeloopy2115 Yeah. Although the Datsun rusted badly, and the bodywork sucked, the engine's were indestructible. ☺
@@wickedleeloopy2115 Datsun and Nissan were the same company when they were introduced to Australia in the 1960s. The smaller cars like the Bluebird 1200 were Datsun, the bigger ones like the Cedric 1900 were Nissan.
Pity we can’t get them back !
They are not car lovers, they are bankers and accountants. Bankers are like accountants but with more criminal intent.
Some f$&ked experiences with both mate hope it’s come good🤙🏽
At least you have your eyes open Alan because a lot of folk either don’t or just couldn’t care which is an indictment of humans in general - and should we also mention the real estate industry, Australian Gas exporters and so on - I’ve just tuned 65 years of age which is young for a mountain but cannot believe how distrusting and cynical I’ve become or is that normal? - I’ve owned Datsun/Nissan cars when they were pretty good including 10 Subarus - the Renault influence has killed Nissan and I wouldn’t own any post 2013 CVT Subarus now.
@@johnnumbat9782 Actually 65 and becoming distrusting and cynical you lasted well I got that way at about 55. It's a drag now unless I watch John.
You mean the moneylenders.
I have a 2023 Nissan Pathfinder and I like it very well. It has fine acceleration. My only gripe is an issue with leather on driver's seat but otherwise I really like it. I have had Hyundais and liked them but I would not say the quality is better
All this opinion without actually driving the Pathfinder, genius. VR continues to narrow the perception of one appreciation of interaction. Nissan need to rebrand or at least dual brand like Hyundai/Kia do. The Datsun Pathfinder sounds wayy better, the Datsun badge alone would generate enormous foot traffic with the promise of simpler times with memories of the 70s and glorious times in our120Y and 180B freedom machines. Chrome Wheeled, Fuel Injected and steppin out over the line. Put a body kit on the Pathy, deck it out with chrome Wheels and it's today's version of 1975.
5 years ago My sister wanted my opinion on a new family wagon/camping rig.
Me being a red coolant bleeding Toyota fan boy said Prado, my sister and husband decided to get a ”Partsfinder”
5 transmission later I just laughed. The only Nissan I would have would need to be a Toyota.
😂😂
as father John preached before, the y62 is the only nissan any half sain person would but, its litterally the only good car they make, it aint no toyoda, but its 40% cheaper...
John don't worry about the specifications look at the colour. Have they patented that red?
Thanks for the enlightenment.
Regards Tony
Damn, if that's a visual improvement then I'm very glad that I never noticed the previous version.
3 less whacks with the ugly stick maybe?
Last one looked.. bland at best. Far from the worst part of those things
Your description of the camping adventurer traveling to a groomed camp site fits the new SUV customer here in the states perfectly. But Australia must have a larger group of relatively afluent off-road types. In the US, you'll almost never see anything newer than 6 years old on a real off-road trail. Any vehicles there are nearly always bought pre-owned or a family hand-me-down.
Although you don't describe it as such, given that it's populated by new Land Cruisers and the like, I imagine Piss Creek to be an Australian Winery.
No. Dingo P*** Creek is any remote location reached over rough roads or no roads and lacking in basic facilities.
@@rais1953 satire
In general, yes, the first owners of a land cruiser won't take it properly bush bashing, just towing a caravan into a dirt track.
@Rob Schulte. Sounds like you’ve drank some fine Aussie wines. If you think they’re bad you should try their beers.
On the upside, we don’t get to a camping ground and get shot at Dingo-Piss Creek.
The Pathfinder hasn't been off road capable since about 1995, its a minivan without the sliding doors.
I beg to differ I have a R 51 and it gets me through the snow and everything and from the states by the way
The one that came out in 1996 was a beaut , that's where it ended .
Should check out reviews where they actually test drive it. Gets pretty good reviews.
You are correct.. don't understand the manufactu👍🙂rer's. Glad someone is on the Ball to warn everyone.
"Merican" here, bless you, you've brought me back to earth before getting sucked in by my nostalgia for the good ole days when I owned Nissan Z cars. Currently shopping for a new SUV to replace my 2001 Acura MDX, thus my interest in the new Pathfinder. After 22 years the MDX still runs like new but I'd like to have some modern bells and whistles for a change. Anyway, thank you for so eloquently reminding me that all that glitters is not gold.
Hi John, yeah we had a R51 2011 from new and it was nice, we sold it and bought a R51 550 v6 oiler, had nothing but trouble, it was like it was possessed. It was about then that Nissan was bough wholly by Reno, and that’s when the R52 came out, and ever since then they haven’t produced anything good since, hence that’s why they are dwindling in the market. The Kia,s and fords of the world have really stepped up and have a good share of the market now. Loved you Video, and keep up with the good reporting, keep the bastards honest!
I have a 2008 r51 it is a great 4x4. I just did the white rim trail last week with it and that went great
Being a Nissan fanboy since i was a kid, this breaks my heart. However, no lies detected here. Well done, John.
Same, we had micras, primera gt, 200sx touring and an old pathfinder back in the day growing up but Renault has used Nissan as a trojan horse for the US market. Japanese wrapping on French mechanicals has killed it worldwide.... Tragic
@@Craig-zq2qx I couldnt agree more. I noticed the brand turning for the worse, when the Pulsar was replaced with a "Tiida" nameplate, since then every car released by Nissan was falling behind the other brands, especially in terms of technology, interior and infotainment system. There was no innovation.
I think your spot on, in the early 2000s Renault got thier hands on the Nissan Qashqai, which was the start of the mid sized family "4x4" must have craze in Europe and then cloned their own vehicle under it into a financial success.
Drunk on that one subterfuge along side very dodgy accounting practices tried to do it world wide with other successful Nissan models.... Unsurprisingly Carlos Ghosn then had to escape Japan in a box and Nissan was left trying to roll a turd in glitter to recover sales.
Is the new Pathfinders luggage area big enough to fit a Double Bass Case ? And get it past Customs to put it on an aeroplane bound for Lebanon ?
As we've discussed previously, I avoid drinking anything during viewing of your eloquent productions, lest I have a sinus enema. I enjoyed this immensely. Cheers.
Haha sinus enema!
The same thing has happened in the States. I live in Nashville, the HQ in the US. I expect Nissan to go the way of the Volvobird (or Saabbird) in the next decade.
“De-shiitification… in the latest iteration” JC, love your excellence in wordsmithing! Smooooth. 😁
Gotta love a guy that puts a car down without even driving it.
“Stopped innovating”?
There is not much “innovation” to be found anymore man! (most innovation has been done and further innovation will be extremely expensive/rare).
Let us see how the car does in the REAL world, with real people that actually own that car!
Hi John, after having 2 Subaru company cars (2.5L Outback and Forester) I am a big CVT fan. There, I said it. Your comment that the fuel consumption of the Pathfinder has increased is one reason why. What's the only major mechanical change? The transmission. Back to the Subarus, they have a 2.5L non-turbo petrol engine pushing a 1.6T SUV and the highway performance and economy is better than this combination has any right to be. On the undulating Hume the RPM slides up and down seamlessly, none of this hanging on to a high gear as long as possible then frenetic kick down and overshoot the cruise control setting by 5kph (OK, things may have got better since the 6-speed auto 3.0L V6 Commodore and maybe 8 and 9 speeds are better, I don't know). Sure, a high-torque-at-low-rev turbo petrol or diesel solves this problem too, but I am talking about a transmission that can make a relatively small NA petrol engine pushing a heavy car look good. As a company car driver, I don't have any skin in the game as far as longevity goes, but no failures that I am aware of in our fleet that are kept up to about 100k. A CVT behind the Pathfinder's 3.5L six might be another story for reliability, and I will take a CX9 over a Pathfinder any day if I must have a large petrol SUV, but that's my opinion on CVTs in general.
Mazda don't use CVT at all.
"Kill something everyday to maintain operational proficiency......... until the cemetary gets you".

Sounds like that needs to be on a t-shirt...
I bought a Murano in 2012 and still love it, it's been reliable and haven't had any trouble with it.
When it was refreshed in 2017 I was gutted when they made it left hand drive only.
They def don't care about the Australian market. I would have bought it. I feel like I dodged a bullet now.
Does this Pathfinder have a CD player in it? ;)
8 track actually.
If you like the Murano then don't drive anuthing else. You will probably be dissapointed with the nissan.

@@robertceroli3512 yes, has the CVT and I've had no problems with it at all... Maybe lucky but I don't mind it at all.
Come to think of it, when I bought it in 12, , I thought it was strange that it didn't have Bluetooth music playback, and it couldn't play 320kbps MP3s... So it was old tech when I got it, even back then.
Looking at the picture behind you, I would be surprised if it had enough ground clearance to negotiate the speed humps at the local Bunnings car park

My idea of a good test for a Toyota Prado competitor is to drive to 'Big Red' and get to the top of it. Toyota Prados just do it, but they also make the trip to Mt Dare Homestead as well. A new Nissan Pathfinder? HAHAHA!
Here Here Sir, you only need watch Ronny Dahl, put a brand new Prado off the showroom floor, onto the beach to see the difference, have you herd of carsguide perchance??????
@@bobkats I'm inferring that the Pathfinder wont even make it to Big Red because of it's bitumen only tires will let it down. A Falcon or Commodore can make it there as the roads are two wheel drive rated to Birdsville and to the start of the Simpson Desert crossing
I just had a laugh watching A Current Affair tonight (Saturday) with Trevor Long now being called a "tech" and now, "motoring expert" talking in a story about 'agreed' and 'market value' insurance.
Trevor not a very long shlong more like it.
Looking for a "functional press" is as pointless as looking for a "morally honest politician"
Your lectures are always outstanding. I feel as if I'm in a college level class on the subject of vehicle engineering. Thank you for sharing your research with us.
And then you go out into the real world and theories mean nothing. Check out videos where they actually do some off road test drives, this thing performs beautifully
Had nissans almost most of my life, altimas, x terra, the last a frontier from 2006, still have it, the v6 4.0 it just does'nt died, never had any major issues with any of them.Good or better than most of the brands out there. I guess it depends of the model probably
If you take into account both the pandemic and the whole debacle with the ex CEO, you can see why modern Nissan is struggling to find their footing again. I agree with you, I have a 98 Pathfinder that's at 260k and running, was looking to upgrade to this new 2023 model but the amount of complaints I'm seeing is making me think twice. This one may have been rushed.
"Tip into turn 1 @250". Been there, done that as a passenger in the BP Visco RX7. Blacked out on turn 2 & 3.
Reduced sales doesn't necessarily indicate a collapse, it could simply be an indicator of their pivoting to different global markets.
Ive bought some olights over the years, could we have the advert easily skippable please?
The torches are great and all but i dont need any for a while.
Paid a deposit for the new Pathfinder a couple of months ago. Dealer refused to give me an ETA on demo to test drive nor my actual vehicle. Now in the process if trying to get a refund of my deposit as I still don’t know when these things are going to turn up. Dodgy brothers to say the least. Oh yeah, and I have the current shape Pathy and after 7 years of Nissan servicing it has carked it. More like Path-etic-Finder.
why did you sign up for another one?
@@markbowden1847 It was before my current one shat itself. Needless to say, I’ve cancelled the order for the new one.
John, this is you at your Finest! Bravo mate. We could be brothers... old school, no BS.
Thank you so much John, almost committed myself and my family to buying a Pathfinder. This is a upgrade😏 from a 2005 BMW X5, for our new family suv, to travel around a bit, as kids have finished schooling. Please advise if Kluger grande would suit us for our purpose. Your research and information has helped us to stop and think about the Pathfinder. Looking forward to watching more of your honest and genuine advice and pros and cons of today's auto market. U just threw away a reliable option by listening to a guy who’s RUclips videos are so disliked bc they’re just that wrong compared to real world facts. He’s on Google jerking his ass off scrolling through the internet to shit on everything other than Korean vehicles.
I'd prefer to see one taken for a drive and reviewed before I formed an opinion.
best off taking your shortlist for a drive yourself. Most car reviewers have some crazy ideal they're working too, or work off whats been written for them. They will all miss something that you're likely paying attention to.
Worth noting, you don’t need 350nm in traffic all the time. 200nm at 2000rpm is plenty, And turbo petrol and turbo diesel also have a little turbo lag so not like its instant.
Also the new gearbox is a 9spd so when up it, will sit nicely in powerband. Agree though a 200kw hybrid would be great.
Wifes cx9 GT turbo is 5 years old now, looking for replacement. (Never gotten it under 10l per 100km, AWD system is garbage btw)
That's sad. I'm still driving a 2014 Pulsar. Never had to claim on the warranty and it's pretty much just required the basic regular servicing up to now. Last service it had to get a new left side parking light globe and this service I got the shocking news that the right side globe had to be replaced. OK I suppose, first time since new. Nissan no longer markets its passenger vehicles in Australia, just utes and SUVs so I guess if I replace this car I'll probably be going Korean.
We've got just over 2 year old Hyundai i30 hatch and at a shade over 50,000 km it's been flawless, servicing hasn't cost an arm and a leg, build quality is great and the price was pretty good at the time. Would definitely reccommend when it comes time to shop.
Ours is manual, but if you go Kia with a Cerrato, same size car on the same platform I believe, it's only available in auto if that's a factor for you. Same engine.
Came here because I like mechanical reviews. Instead saw a lot of number’s analysis. I also like that. I do my own light mechanical work so I’m not really a numbers guy. A coworker asked me about the Pathfinder. I do like the VQ engine (duh) and there’s a reason why it still exists. I wasn’t going to recommend it due to certain known reasons but was pleasantly surprised they went with a 9sp auto. Like now there’s a chance!! Thank goodness. That being said you gotta take better care of these things than the manual says. Transmission fluid changes (do them please), engine oil change intervals at 5,000mi OR LESS, general fluid overhauls every 2-3 summers, yearly rustproofing etc here in the “Murican”salt belt. Good luck everyone
Hey, I was looking for reviews for the pathfinder as it fits my family's bill quite nicely but the issues you bring up are substantial. You did recommend the Hyumdai Palisade but they don't offer that in the country I live in (Dubai, UAE) do you have any other 7 seater recommendations around the 45k USD price range? Thanks
This guy gets paid by kia and hyandai and only loves Korean made cars. There is nothing wrong with the new Pathfinder just have a look at all the reviews coming out of America.
If your reading all the mainstream press reviews… I think you missed the point, even if they were American reviewers.
In addition, American made cars are well known for their lack of quality and near enough is good enough attitude of their underpaid workforce.
Finally, unless you have been living under a rock, you would have noticed the steep decline in Nissan quality since the Renault merger 2 decades ago.
I love watching your videos, you never fail to give me a laugh. Keep them coming legend.🤘
Great Info as always, would love to know your opinion of Mahindra ute as a reasonably cheap new 4x4 work ute
Always been a bit of a dog these. Nissan will definitely lead you up the garden pathfinder I found.
Middle ground is a WJ JGC Overland going apeshit just to see where it would go, before the 4.7 HO dropped a valve seat.
It was fun, and didn't die.
I almost did because of the fuel consumption.
No regrets, and it went great, and sounded FANTASTIC.
I'm looking to buy a 2023 Ford transit custom or Renault traffic next year , which one do you recommend?
"Deshitification"? Great word, John! By the way, not all of us here in 'merica "love our V-6 petrol engines". I'd be willing to pay a premium for a new DIESEL Ranger. However, they will never be available anywhere in the USA and especially here in the Peoples' Republic of California.
I would tip money into a patreon account to see you take the new Pathfinder up to the tip of Australia. Maybe you could have your support camera crew follow you in a Prado (Nissan Recovery Vehicle)
You 4WD guys that put stickers on their cars saying “Toyota or Nissan Recovery Vehicle” you do realise that everyone who sees them just thinks “wanker” right?
Camera crews usually drive Y61 patrols😂
All points brought up here, are opinions. I can accept lower power specs, less fuel economy, etc, for the reliability that I have experienced. To get a vehicle with better economy, and more power, you have to pay $80k. No thank you. I am not in a daily race on the road. Most of what i hear in this video is blah blah blah.
It is amazing, out of all the vehicle that I have had from all the auto makers, that Nissan has been the best bay far for me. (GM, FORD, all of them) Nissan, with the very few issues that i have had, has taken care of me. We are we all ignoring the cylinder deactivation issues of GM, the transmission issues. I had x3 equinox that had engine failure, all under 50k. Ford had had not as many issues, but still garbage.
Nissan does not sell, because everyone has Ford or GM, regardless of the issue then have. Just search cylinder deactivation on GM. hundreds of thousands of KNOWS issues, but no one cares. Its strange.
Hello, I saw a report from Consumer reports He rated it 2 out of 5 in terms of reliability, and they say that it only has electrical problems. Do you agree with him?! Thank you very much for what you provide 🇸🇦🇺🇸
Sounds like you were rocking out whilst making that piece about the Olight Swivel, John. 🤘
Actually went in to buy a new pathfinder this week, but signed an order for a new Subaru touring xt instead (same dealership).
Great call. The XT is an amazing vehicle and ours is very reliable.
But...but....CVT. Even Nissan ditched CVT in this new Pathfinder.
@@davidnobular9220 I would rather have the cvt. Easier to control the rpm on the highways and the hills
@@occckid123 Fair enough. But my issue is the lack of choice as I personally do not believe CVTs have decent lonegevity and reliability.
I'd prefer auto or manual.
@@davidnobular9220 I have 415k miles on my cvt and 130k on my other cvt. I'm not worried about reliability. Many dealers have lifetime warranties. Choose that 1 then.
Bought the top model in April 2023. Took a while to notice because it was a new car to get used to, but it had some weird electrical quirks like randomly forgetting seat positioning, auto dimmer didn't always work, after down shifting to accelerate going up a hill it would want to stay in that gear and not shift back up even when the throttle was backed off to relieve pressure, and it would sputter and struggle to rev up after the god forsaken shut off when stopped would turn the engine back on. Then in October we drove up a mountain, or tried to, and it started sputtering and stalling out. To keep from dying it would rev the engine causing very aggressive vibrations rocking the whole car, and it did this until shut off. 6 months old and we were sitting on a dirt road at 10,000 ft in the rocky mountains. If I gave it gas and kept the rpm up it would run smooth and normal, just wouldn't idle. I looked around on Google and couldn't find much relating to this specific car. I'm pretty good with cars and I knew it was a fuel or air issue. Decided low octane fuel at a high elevation in a car that's still learning user habits was the cause, I knew that wasn't true, but it was easier than accepting the brand new car had problems. Topped off with a third of a tank of high octane and it ran fine on the 4hr drive home. It did this a few more times but then it kinda went away. Electrical issues continued and for good news, the idle stop start quit working. Not good because it's a problem with the car, but it was nice. Took it to the dealer and they acted dumfounded said they needed to keep it for multiple days to be scheduled later on. This was last May. That night I hit up Google again and found a swamp of people with the same issue and a Nissan rep replying it's a known issue and they're working on a recall. Best info I have points to it being the low pressure fuel pump and there's a shortage leading to it taking weeks for the dealership to get it in. Of course Nissan won't put a hold on new clunkers to send the parts out and fix the ones already sold. I haven't looked into doing it myself, when a cars under warranty I don't touch it. Can't give them any reason to refuse fixing something. It's been running fairly normal, so it's not been a priority. I don't mind that there's a problem, it's a new model and that's how it goes, my attention is fully on how Nissan deals with this and treats us. According to the people who've had the part replaced, the new pump took care of the idle issue along with all the odd electrical things I mentioned. Can't wrap my head around that, but glad to hear it. Over all, it's a nice car. Not worth 53k, but it's primary driver is 5 feet tall, 1.524m for you psycho's, and this was the only suv she could see out of. I still had to get her an adult booster seat though 😂. I would have rather gotten a 4 runner. Sry for the novel, haven't been to therapy since yesterday. Lol

Have to agree 100% with the usable rev range rather than some "better" output at rediculous revs.
We still love our diesel Sportage because it has lazy V8 type torque for unfussed driving without buzzing to the upper rev range. Going to live a lot longer too not thrashing those slugs at max piston velocity all the time

Great shirt John
And so true!
Which toyota kluger generation you recommend for reliable used car?
Just wondering if the chip/parts shortage contributed to the low sales volumes for 2021/2022? Not sure about in Australia, but in North America that is/was definitely a factor.
John I've had 15 Nissans! Well not quite that many. Come to think about it I haven't had any Nissan vehicles and I'm 65. I'm very happy.
Best objective non-hands on fact based review on the internet. ;-). Also would like to know which vehicle you recommend to the family wanting to get down to the creek or whatever the expression was. Is it one that conveys a smarter value purchase that checks all the family boxes? Perhaps all terrains on a minivan is the more functional option. And that VQ35 with a timing chain. I need to research the org that awarded it best engine of the year for respectability. Here in Merica I do have the luxury of test driving products first before formulating an opinion. That means I may have to change my opinion before pumping out a video. And those Merica sales numbers of late on the product. Not exactly declining.
My wife drove one of these new pathfinders only 10 hours before you released this video and fell in love with it. So I've sent this video to her at work tonight. It might just change her mind

@@stevenhobbs709 looks like someone already reported them, scam comment not here now. I often take the 2 seconds required to just report them and get them removed.
John, love you! But you have not taken a few things into consideration here. Nisans percentage drop from 2011 to 2017+ also had to do with a number of other cheaper competitors entering the market (china etc).
Toyota and Mazda do a higher end product and you can’t compare, (Mitsubishi’s higher sales would have been their utes which sales well in Australia).
Yes Nisan had huge issues with the CTV gearbox’s but they have changed that out with there new range, thank god!
Mazda do the same thing with their engines in the CX9, a one engine choice, (my wife has one and we love it). But look at the towing values between the pathfinder Vs Mazda 🤷♂️
AWD means a lot here in Australia, and Kia doesn’t do that, plus resale prices sucks with them.
The Hyundai Palisade is a great 8 seater, I’ll give you that.
The fact you haven’t even driven the Nisan Pathfinder, maybe you should stop just reading figures and drive the bloody thing before you shit can it? After that you may have a real objective opinion which is worth something.
#not a Nisan lover, just a person who doesn’t shit can when you haven’t experienced the drive and cherry pick figures with out looking at the full picture 🙄
What's a Nisan??
A poor man's Nissan 🤨
Datsun's were great vehicles. In the years after banner the switch to Nissan a down ward slide started and has only continued. This is most apparent in their automatic transmission.
Ive got a 92 Pathy , and I wouldnt touch these new ones! this is without a doubt the the best 4wd truck ive ever had, or driven. but im going to have to sell it. any suggestions on the best way to sell this,, im in California. ?
Does it actually have off road tyres? Well not the spare obviously .
The extra sad thing is is costs about as much to make a not very good product and a really good one. A seriously good vehicle shouldn't really cost more in quantity production because the design work is spread over all the units sold. An "EV with range extender" seems to be a thing that the market would love. I would be very cheap on the day to day drive and still able to go for the road trip.
Extra care shouldn't really cost anymore but a serious absence evident nowadays.
2 pathfinder ads during this video. Thanks algorithm!
I have a pathfinder having issues with front camera, gas pump, it goes to neutral by itself, dies at stops
What year is your Pathfinder because the new Pathfinder has switched from CVT to automatic trans.
Excellent point on power and rpm. Who cares if you have 200plus KW if it's only at 6000rpm or higher(an engine condition most normal drivers will never go near nor want to go near). For the record anyone who's interested the conversion from rpm to rad/s is to multiple the rpm by 0.10472. See that's not so tricky right?
But transmission gears matter too. You can get to that rev range easily in a 9 speed.
@@deadbot61 If one can afford a vehicle that has a 9 gear transmission. That said a friend got to try a Mercedes once that had 9 gears. He got to 60 in about 3rd or 4th gear, 100 in the 5th gear and well as you can't really go faster than that legally on the open roads declared all the extra gears a complete wank. Top RPM, 4500. So what's the point unless your going to the race tracks regularly?
I suggest the Nissan figures are worse than you stated because their sales of the patrol have been boosted because the wait list (and that is being nice) for the brilliant but unavailable LC300. I read/heard somewhere they have sold a lot more patrols than the last few years.
I suggest you do what I did, the at the car rigistration figures for each state in Hawwwwstraya, Masseur Codogen, is correct on his figures, he actually has to be, the courts are always hungry..
Actually, corporations cannot sue for defamation in Australia...
So you're saying people are dodging the year long wait list on an LC300, to join the year long wait list for a Y62?
John, are you channelling "the cemetery beckoning" with Andrew Marvell's "But at my back I always hear. Time's winged chariot hurrying near "?
Is it safe to buy 2022 pathfinder that has 40k miles and only 2 oil changes
Comments got turned off on yer oil consumption video. Just wanted to say thanks. And the bit about looser tolerances makes so much sense. So yeah thanks
Test drove it last week. (I did have one on order). It was like driving a four year old car. It was blah. The engine needed high rpm in order to deliver acceptable acceleration (no different to my 2010 CX-9). I Cancelled order.
Bugger me!! But still love my Patrol. It's sad to hear the decline of a company that was once on par with the best of them.
I have to most strongly disagree with you on this one John. 170mm of ground clearance , is literally, most definitely, ground breaking , and at the same time car breaking .
Yep, everything is driven by greed. Even safety takes a back seat to profitability. None of the CEO’s in any of the current car companies today are asking their subordinates how they can make their vehicles as safe as it can possibly be, they are asking how they can achieve a current 5 star rating as cheap as possible. Except for Ford with the mustang obviously, they just didn’t bother…
Whether this can be substantiated or not there is plenty of talk going around the dealerships that most manufacturers are moving their "non-ute" cars away from diesel. Nissan might be one of the first dipping their toes in the pool.
John where can I get that T shirt? Love it
26,000 vehicles - wow, it won't be long before Nissan pulls the plug on Australia. Reason enough to avoid purchasing a new Nissan.
The do not buy badge is on the hood.
Thankyou. Finding factual information is so difficult in this world today. It’s so sad to see motoring journalists reduce themselves to advertising sellers. At the price of their own integrity. I wonder if all motoring reports should provide a standard list of statistics with a average result of competitors. Anyway, than you again for the facts. Cheers.
Hey Johnny long time no watch mate…seriously considering selling my VF Motorsport and jumping into BMW X6 M Competition (geez what a mouthful) drive one recently and think they are absolutely exquisite…could you share your thoughts on this model and BMW as a whole possibly?…ps love the channel and content
You sure you want to ask that question? You might not like the answer..
@@rosiehawtrey how come? I’m only asking an opinion
Love the t-shirt.
Sounds like Mr Long-Ghey-Roo may of taken a R51 for a test drive on the 4WD track instead. That was the last Pathfinder that was capable and was a body-on-chassis using the Navara F-Alpha platform. Sure in it's petrol form it was a 4.0 ltr V6, basically the same as the 350z engine in the new one and was a bit thirsty, but it seemed to fit in that "black hole" section between graded dirt road and Dingo Piss Creek mobile travel lodge. For close to $80k I would prefer to buy a R51 for under $10k and and get it rebuilt. It would probably outlast this new monocoque version and the last one
Even the earlier R50 Pathfinders are very capable. Although monocoque they are a true 4wd with low range, locking centre diff and decent ground clearance. I had one that at around 350k kms was starting to cost more and more to maintain and the 3.3 V6 using more fuel. Wanted another 4wd wagon, but not a huge Y62 Patrol, and as Nissan had no medium size 4wd wagons bought an Isuzu MU-X. Another sale lost due to poor products available.
Is this car running the VQ35 engine? The same engine rocking in my 2003 350Z?
Same engine with direct injection added
Love a critical view, nice work John. You are tending to cherry pick facts to suit your narrative.
You're trying to find arguments for and against the Pathfinder. But skip over anything that's for it (especially if you're actually shopping for that size)
- tow capacity may not have changed, but it's already 500-700kg higher than it's softer SUV competitors. There are many popular sized caravans & boats that fall into this 2-2.7 tonne range.
- you mention seating, but fail to mention the Pathfinder, along with Palisade and Carnival, are the only ones where average adults can sit in the rear seats for any length of time without needed to visit the chiro. The Kluger and cx9 are kid only back seat areas.
- the Pathfinder actually has mid row seats that told forward to allow access to the rear - all the others clumsy afterthought type arrangements.
- comparing the Santa Fe is surely a joke. It's a completely different size, 30cm shorter and a lot smaller inside. If you're cross-shopping the Santa Fe against the larger models, then you got your priorities wrong when short listing.
Subjectively, the engine could be seen as a win. The NA engine is sweet to drive, even matched to the rubbish CVT. I've never needed to use full throttle (not saying I haven't tried it), and barely need to use over 3000rpm, it will keep with traffic easily between 1500 & 2500 rpm all day. The fact that it's from an era when Nissan were doing things properly is surely a benefit, as it's comparative lack of complexity compared to newer turbos. It's relatively easy to match the rated fuel economy, which is far from the truth for many turbo engines, especially Diesels. Even more subjectively, and from our experience with the R52 over 5 years, the engine will likely outlast everything else in the vehicle... That good old American quality...
22:30. A 2022 & 2023 Dodge Durango GT-(mid range trim)- 10.0L/100km!! Don’t forget about towing!!
the ad on your vid was for the same car
Man you dont know what are you talking about, i absolutely love this new generation of pathfinder. In my opinion, pathfinder is definitely on top of alot of ppl’s list who is currently looking to buy mid sized suv. Yes, the previous generation wasnt good because of cvt issues but they have definitely improved a lot with new 9 speed automatic. Low sales are due to chip shortage and low production
you should look at what the consumer reviews are
Really long drawn out video that lists a lot of detailed minutiae that you probably didn’t need and could have done in 1/2 the time.
My opinion? I watched quite a few videos about the Pathfinder before buying and you are about the only guy who didn’t like it.
Perhaps the model offered in your country (Australia right?) wasn’t the same as offered here in the US (regulations of some kind perhaps)
I bought one.
I absolutely LOVE IT!
It’s a quiet luxurious comfortable ride. It’s looks decent (not perfect but decent) Lots of options to choose from.
It’s nowhere near as horrible as you’re describing it.
Just my opinion.
I watched first 13 minutes. About how car companies works. And this should be whole different video.
This explains a lot. And I believe gives proper foundation to understand car business for "NORMAL" people who buy daily cars.
Ironic that your vid is "interrupted" by a Nissan Pathfinder ad, perfect timing. Managed to land on the new vid 14 mins after being broadcast, woo hoo, a new record for me :)
I just want a Gen 3 Nissan Pathfinder with a Solid Rear Axle! ( Gen 3 had a good transmission, it was the third party radiator that messed it up).
