Something to bare in mind, the non-foil promos are given in a pack of 60. Even if there are 32 participants, there is room to do some tiered prizing from 1st-down with 1st getting a playset etc. With participation packs and any additional prizing the store wants to add, although not fantastic prizing, there is at least something gainable after each round of from top-cut onwards.
A much better way to look at the store championship changes is Ravensburger trying to ensure theres prizing at each level of the tournament so your always fighting for something. A solution to the "feels bad" of losing in top 4 or second place is to give out 2 additional playmats with no text to 3rd and 4th place while keeping the second place playmat as well. It does cost RB more money on their end to print the additional mats, but Im sure they can afford it without going bankrupt, lol.
Is a strong understanding of the Comprehensive Rules an important edge in competitive play or not really worth the time to dive into? How many pros do you think know the Rules really really well?
Specifically for Sven and if it is only allowed in Blurple... it is an option to answer to Steel Pluto bodyguard and Lawrence for Blurple since all other options make it a 1 for 1 trade... Pluto becomes a 2/5... you rush this into it and it becomes zero strength and then hit it with something else... pluto is banished without you losing any characters.... then could possible setup the next turn with the damage moving 5-cost Belle
Lady for sure is not competitive right now but I think it’s a good card to hold onto. Anything that interacts with the discard has potential to be powerful in the future. Maybe eventually we get cards that’s say when this card is returned to hand from the discard you can play it for free
Would running the evasive Iago encourage you to run Peter Pan's Shadow finder with shark genie iago all being evasive you could also run the two cost Pegasus and the evasive Archimedes quest for two and make your entire deck rush and unchallengeable
The beast card i feel is bad i agree I think the belle card is pushing a completely different deck maybe one that doesnt need to rely on dime to close out games.
Dual ink cards are supposed to be a little more powerful to offset the color combo that kinda throws off sealed, not that you guys have a high opinion about it but just shows how much of an afterthought sealed is
Another Belle to shift is the 4d uninkable that has ward and gives all characters ward for a turn. I think her and Beast are only viable with the items you guys mentioned where they'd be an "Anti-Tamatoa" RB deck. Highly depends on the items if they can only do things on banish. Like a 0 cost that lets you draw a 1-2 cards when banished. Editing to add: also regarding Jafar and Illusions, if there are some illusions that buff Jafar or other effects, maybe it'd be good but again it relies on a lot of other cards. Hopefully they're showing us the most mid dual-inks before Feb 10 to show the best
Hey guys, hope you're all healthy and well! I was wondering if you have had a chance to personally test the newer, sort of aggro "Doc" builds that use things like calhoun, robin hood and pete to lock down the field early game and then drop the big questers around the 4 and 5 ink range. I believe Harlan Sweete and Jakxshadows popularized the "BlueDoc" build which has shown success, but I am even enjoying a "RedDoc" deck in testing. Doc is a card that has already been successful in both Amethyst and Amber, and I would say some of those decks also rely on his mechanic. Where do you all rank these "Doc" decks in the meta and what color combo do you think it works best with?
What do you guys think is an answer for the lottery ticket system for the DLC’s? Should they increase the capacity or change the lotto system? Assuming they realize it’s a problem.
Gotta say that I think the pod is underestimating Lady. Shifting her out T3 to bring back 1 ink pressure like Daisy and Merfolk for T4 is a great reload that aggro needs more of. I don’t think this makes AE Tier 1 by any means but this can catch a lot of decks offguard with early pressure that sustains the tempo into the midgame.
I was also in the mind set of dual ink cards should be locked to that color. But with the power level we’ve seen so far I start leaning toward they can be in either color. Bc what we’ve seen makes me scratch my head wondering why these are deck locked.
How would you compare Lorcanas focus on competitive players vs casual players? This is the first tcg I've really gotten into and from an outsider view toward the other prominent tcgs it seems to me like Lorcana caters a bit more toward the casual crowd with products like the Lorcana gateway and increasing the promo cards for other people at set champs.
I appreciate the advice of bringing a meta deck rather than a home brew to an event if one wants to do well. Last weekend I played an exact copy of the NA winner's Ruby-Amethyst deck to another set champ. Unfortunately, I didn't do very well (1-3) at that event either. Sometimes it's not the deck, it's the pilot, I suppose. I'm glad to hear that there's a plan to provide participation prizes in the future. Do you think that there will ever be any alternative prizing categories (e.g. Innovation, Theme, Flavor, etc.) included in future events or is that just wishful thinking? 🙂
At roughly 39:50. the main reason I think Sven will be used is because he is an uncommon and will be cheap. He is a functionally worse Elsa 5th spirit, so if someone is doing poorcana (or doesnt have ~20$ for 4 Elsas) then its a good substitute. Not amazing, but something in Sven's favor. Love him, but Speci is still wrong though. Question: If you could print 1 dual ink ruby/steel card to "fix" the color combo what are your ideas?
How would you start a lorcana group at your lgs?. I've been trying to get players from other card games to play lorcana. And I've been using movie theme decks to try to get them to play as a jumping off point. Or should I have them dive deep into competitive metadex? Keep up the great work guys. I love your podcast.
Given we know Lorcana tournaments will shift from using melee and will start using their new one after Reign of Jafar, do you guys think they are waiting for worlds until after that is in place? And do you think that is too late for worlds if that is the case?
Assuming dual ink cards are locked to a deck of those two colors: what color combos are you guys most interested in or excited to see support for? Are there any that you are worried about becoming too powerful?
Logically if dual cards could be played into a deck which has either colour then you could play amythest Steel in amber Steel and amber emerald in amber Steel. Now your deck has amythest, Steel, amber, emerald. So you could now play an emerald Ruby card as you have emerald within your deck. It just breaks the basic mechanics of Lorcana or we need very specifically worded rules which could be quite confusing specially for new players.
Thanks for the great content! I am rookie TCG player (7 months all Lorcana) I had a moment of clarity in December that buying more cards won’t make me a better player! I decided to put that money towards coaching as I would like to be a better player! Around here I am consistently playing against people that have 10-20 yrs in TCGs and I feel like Rocky Balboa walking the mean streets of TCGs without a Mickey! Anyways my question is beyond getting some coaching do you recommend playing other TCGs to build skill for Lorcana or will there just not be enough carry over to make the time investment worth it right now? I do not want to switch games just build more skill. I have made top 4 and top 8 in the set champs for chapters 5 and 6. Hoping to win a mat this weekend and have a goal of making Day 2 of a DLC this year. I know it is a rookie question but I am a rookie! Thanks again you guys rock! #bringbackthemoystache
new set champs make it even more watered down not sure why they started set champs as a comp event now its like the end of league tourney with no dlc news in the near future competitive lorcana is going to fall off if we have like a 8 month lay off from october our last dlc in us
The shot at speci had me gagging love the banter.
I still think they'll eventually make hybrid ink cards with a restriction. Might even be called spilled ink!

Can we get an entire episode of podstalgia? Love listening to just fun unstructured convo about the game

What if local game stores start adding prizing for 2nd place sometimes as another reason to go to their tournament over another etc
Would love to hear your thoughts on what you would like to see coming for dual inks. A Ruby Amber draw mechanic would be amazing

Since the vanish effect reads "for an action" and not "with an action", is it possible that a challange will count as an action to remove it?

Brendan having Illusionist PTSD from Flesh and Blood.

Do we have news regarding official product to new geographies? Half of Europe don't have Set Championships (ex Greece).

Great job guys! One question that was brought up on Zans podcast is do you agree with Zan that Emerald should have more useable inkable cards?
The three of you are familiar with FAB, One Piece, and Altered. How are those games doing compared to Lorcana right now?
I kinda remember when Brendan mentioned in an earlier podcast he hated casters that were not actively playing the game 🤔
What color combination do you guys think needs the biggest help and what help would that be?
Logically if dual cards could be played into a deck which has either colour then you could play amythest Steel in amber Steel and amber emerald in amber Steel.
