As many people think, I feel like Metagross should have been a defender. Not because only of the pkm in question which in main games have good defenses, but because I also feel like his whole nature of its moves is around shields and getting in the middle of the fight. Allrounders tend to do this, but this is a pretty certain thing defenders do best imo. I hope the big steel-y boi gets a better spot, especially with its unite move.
I feel like it would’ve felt fresher or more thematic as a defender. As an All-rounder it feels boring to me. Plus I thought it’d be a way to get some people who don’t play defenders to play one.
Absolutely should have been a defender
I think the All-Rounder lore fits best for Metagross. Because it makes it similar to the original games where metagross is balanced with attack and defenses, does a ton of damage and can take a ton of damage.
I agree for unite metagross should have been a defender 100% and yes meta gross has great defenses in the main series games but it also has great attack and even decent speed so I get the all rounder. Still though defender needed 😂
Im desperate for more defenders that are actually cool and fun to play so people will pick them. Metagross could’ve been that
Buffs I’d like to see:
Slight Cool down for Meteor Mash and Magnet Rise
Slow enemies hit with Gyro Ball
Magnet Rise doesn’t lose speed during travel
Fix the damn unite move. No unite should be cancelled by anything besides another unite. This unite is cancelled by everything. Even nothing. Just a wall… just a wall. And up the damage, lower the cool down.
More healing from basic attacks.
I was trying Metagross. It wasn't really working for me. I tried a super offensive build, but I felt less tanky than Machamp for some reason, and certainly Garchomp with their offensive builds. I tried a build with Resonant Guard, but I was really missing the damage. Then I noticed while playing Gyro Ball, Metagross's basic attack damage is generally better and more reliable than his special moves, so I put on a rapid-fire scarf. That did it for me. Scarf, Weakness Police, Atk Weight really works for me.
I really like zen headbutt. The distance is great. It's a true dash, it goes through everything, and when you land the hit it is hard for pokemon to time their escape. Pokemon like Gengar and Zera who try to dodge around tend to get take the hit of zen headbutt regardless, but it depends on what you want. More than anything, I want a way to catch fleeing attackers. Magnet Rise doesn't accomplish the same task without x-speed, and x-speed is a good option because atk weight feels necessary to me, but I like potion. I want to last as long as possible to do as much damage to numerous pokemon as possible to make them super easy for everyone else to pick off if/when I die.
Zen Headbutt being a skillshot does have one upside over Sure-hit Moves, and that's being able to target enemies in bushes.
Its range is pretty good so a buff like a whiff leading to a complete cooldown reset after half the CD timer completes could help it more aggressively fish for getting the drop on enemies in bushes, and would overall make misses less punishing too. I dunno, it doesn't help with the move forcing you to commit so a defensive buff would probably also help. But I think leaning into the pros of skillshots would be more fun than having it feel like it should have been a Sure-hit Move.
Gyro balls shield is 300% max attack for hitting just 2 enemies. If you stack an attack weight, at lvl 13, thats about a 1600 shield every 5 seconds, and then you add resonant guard on top of that.
Actually hard to constitantly land with the delay before the move goes and such a small aoe

Im really enjoying Metagross. I like gyro ball though. Meteor mash is alright, but I prefer being able to weave in and out of combat.
Magnet rise is definitely the play though.
As for the unite move. Dont auto attack while youre scanning and targeting. Itll target the lowest hp mon scanned and it has an execute mechanic. Its meant to execute, not to engage.
Definitely should be unstoppable though, and it should be able to bypass walls and obstacles.
what happens if u auto attack?
My only fear is meta gets the mimikyu treatment and gets way over buffed, but even if that is the case I’m sure it’d be toned back down after another patch or two, excited to see where it falls in the meta after the dust settles
I'm gonna wait for coins because while I love Metagross as a pokemon I'm not dying to have it right now, and I want to save for that awesome Dragapult purple
I think another reason why it has such a late evolution is because game-wise, Pseudo legendaries have a slow growth rate. Which is also why a lot of the pseudos in unite evolve around 5 and 9. But yea, from what I'm seeing it definitely needs a lot of quality of life changes. Sucks too since Metagross is one of my faves.
Goodra and Dragonite evolve at Lvl 8 and they get their UNITE move at Lvl 9.
What about buffing the rest of the Pseudos with Lvl 8 evolutions? Garchomp and Tyranitar would love this change especially.

I am struggling with Metagross. When I first got him I skyrocketted from 1250 to 1400, mostly by just playing a lot more than normal, but I found myself feeling super unimpactful. I'm pulling defender numbers and bottom damage compared to other attacker/all rounder/speedsters. every time I think there's a smart fight, my team bolts and runs away and I die for it. Maybe I do need to be playing metagross like a speedster more and not commiting for kills, but jeez that feels bad with a kit seemingly designed to brawl.
Metagross has quite some damage with Meteor Mash. They just need to iron out some kinks and it's gonna be good
I like to think that the unite move not functioning properly for a super computer Pokemon is like a meta commentary on the current AI's we have. Sometimes the AI would butcher the results so bad that it's funny and makes me believe that I get to keep my job for a little bit longer.
Metagross will definitely get a rework to its Unite move similar to Charizard and Lucario. The fact that it's unite can be canceled through no fault of your own, just because the game forced you to run into a wall is clearly a development mistake and not something the devs intended.
I really like metagross I just hope they reduce its move cool down and make the unite move a sure hit move similar to buzzwole
Metagross has a mamoswine go in and go crazy combat style but with less damage and tankiness. i think that is a wigglytuff or goodra case, their gameplay feels diferent than the rol or the card color that the game shows
I really like Metagross, I find it very fun but my end of game stats are never that great. I’m not sure if I’m just playing him wrong or if he’s just middling.
I think the gyro ball CD is fine. I just think it needs a slight buff to defenses, HP, and shield percentage to make it sustain better. Also, the unite move needs a much bigger shield with lifesteal
Metagross is the first Pokemon I've bought with gems because it's my second favourite mon. And at first, I agree he felt really bad. But as I've gotten into more of the flow of it's playstyle and figured out what items I like on it; it's not as bad as I initially thought but still underwhelming. I'm excited for the probable buffs.
same, you know it has potential but it’s not there yet, you can punch but feels squishy and the unite move is really underwhelming

Honestly I think he's fun and I get defender numbers with him. My hubby lanes Tree with me bottom and I usually end up with similar damage taken, 100k being the most so far with metal spider.
Yeah, I think everyone expected him to be a defender or able to destroy teams like Ttar. He probably feels a lot better after playing him less aggressively and should get buffs soon. I'm curious what they're going to do with Dragapult, they could nerf him a little but I'm beginning to think they won't.
My 3 days trial with Metagross end today i did 70 match with it, 68 win and only 2 defeated (66 yellow crown 2 blue crown) skill that i use Meteor Mash and Zen Heatbutt i definitely will buy this dude with aeos gold. I still have last Metagross 1 days trial that i havent use yet.

What irritates me is that Zen Headbutt’s tracking is more reliable than it’s unit move. Some interactions with the unite move leaves me wondering what happened and why I wasn’t refunded my unite move.
By the way, if anyone is intending to buy Metagross with the 50% coupon, make sure you buy it alone and NOT the bundled skin. It goes without saying that the coupon is for a single item. You will receive *no* prompt when you click “obtain” to buy the skin bundle and it won’t apply it.

I think it would be cool if Magnet Rise got a cooldown reduction from 10s to 8s and then Meteor Mash from like 11-12s to 9s

They should add an effect in his unite move that all those trapped in the arena are dealt double the damage from metagross

lol it’s just that I’ve only really looked forward to 2 pokemon this entire game and I got them both but.. lol BOTH of them happen to spawn with theee worst stats off the bat lol decidueye and metagross lol I’m still gonna commit to em and learn them so when the patch hits I’m ready lol
I just bought this pokemon, and I have been waiting since day one to get him. I played a few games, and I was like, l this thing feels way too much like tyran. To slow and week till the late game and metgross needs buffs bad.

I bought him because he’s one of my favorite Pokémon, but man does he not feel great, it sorta feels like his ceiling is decent teammate, and most of the times in soloq you need to carry

I played Metagross today and it's unite move got canceled three times out of four or five times I tried to use it
Summary: If you like Ttar, but want a more skirmish/in-out option, metagross will be great. Either practice now and be ready as soon as buffs drop, or just hold on until they do.
If you don't like melee, then no, metagross isn't your jam.
Metagross is cool. it’s strong, it doesn’t feel broken, and Its fun to play. Though tho it could definitely use some fine tuning.
How many coins will it cost ?
For me its easy pass:
1) I like metagross, but its no where near my favorite pokemon,
2) its kit is not that exciting, quite simple moves, so theres go unique factor,
3) ill wait for buffs, as its looks underwheling.
On the other hand I like tanky all rounders with easy skills, so I wait for the coin purchase (i have saved for ~2 pokemon worth of coins).
Honestly I just cannot get past the fact that it looks like a spider and it irks me out.

If they reworked metagross to be a defender, gave knock back to meteor mash and gyro ball, rework zen headbutt and fix the unite move then it would be good
I really hope they rework his Unite and maybe his stats and change him to a defender. He really doesn't suit the all rounder role for me.

I don't know, to me it seems underwhelming. I don't dislike the mon, but the kit kinda doesn't represent at least how the mon should be. It's the first pokemon that I I feel it just does not fits the mon, for some reason, I don't wanna say it looks lazy, but it kinda does imo
