I remember that painting. It was always hanging in my Grandparents’ dining room. I don’t really feel like this information changes the meaning of the picture but it’s still pretty sad.
I saw a very in depth video about this story, this was originally a photo, then was painted over by the photographers daughter and then they sold making millions of dollars but the town drunk sold his rights for only 5 dollars.
I bet in India every other family in between 80s and early 2000s had a painting in which a chubby little boy is crying. It's like a silent cry with a tear drop rolling on his cheek. I don't know what inspired people to paint this
@@Lalalalalalalall4093There was a tv programme about the sad boy picture, but don't remember anything about India. I do remember that whenever a house fire has ruined the rest of a building, it is claimed that this picture always survives the flames. Idk but might be worth researching by anyone interested.
I was showing my friend this and we both agreed like he looked like some sad guy in front of some really depressing stuff and it seems we were sorta right. It’s in the way his eyes are closed, I think.
It is pretty sad to think that so many people’s perception of this photo changes to something depressing…but I feel like knowing this about this photo makes me appreciate it more. It’s like a lesson on perspective. I think it makes it even MORE valuable
(Long story time, don't read if you can't process all of this) My family had an old kind of 3d painting that was made of metal? It was like a mix of paintings and statues in a way and it had multiple horses just running, which I always thought was weird. We've had it since before I was born but nobody ever spoke about it and acted as if it was never even there. I always felt a sense of dread from the piece of art, the old, unrestored bronze always resonated with me. We renovated multiple times, only recently was I able to actually help them since I was old enough and not too busy with my studies. Weirdly enough, I have no memory of the painting ever moving, even if it was in a different place now. It's just kinda chilling because my family still refuses to talk about it and my memory of it is jumbled and I can't really remember where it used to be hung. To this day, the painting just hangs near the couch, and it would just shine weirdly whenever I would wake up from accidentally binging a shoe and sleeping on the couch. Maybe I'm just overreacting, maybe this painting was always just my hallucination, but all I want to do now is just to ignore is because I don't think I can handle even bringing this topic up.
A copy of this picture”Grace”hung in my grandma’s house and now hangs in mine. The backstory is interesting but makes absolutely no difference if you understand that”Grace” means God’s undeserved Love…I’m sure that means the man immortalized in the painting and the painter and anyone else that accepts God’s undeserved and free Love does indeed receive God’s grace. When we say “grace” at a meal we are thanking God for our meal and for His Love.
I literally have this painting in my room and never knew the actual meaning or story of it. Then this video pops up on my short?! Man thank you for the knowledge!!
When I saw it, it brought up a weird sense of pressure and a weird feel of comfort which makes me kinda uncomfortable and I'm not even joking, I'm serious about it 😰

Yes. Especially the fact that the drunkard signed away his rights to the photo (minimally) and probably died somewhere all alone (sad).
