The Grande Dixence is an engineering marvel located in the Swiss Alps, in the Hérémence Valley. Its construction began in 1951 and was completed in 1961. It was designed to harness the abundant water resources of the region, particularly the surrounding glaciers, for hydroelectric power generation.
The construction of the Grande Dixence required colossal efforts. Thousands of workers labored on the site, excavating tunnels, placing millions of tons of concrete, and installing electricity production equipment. In total, approximately six million cubic meters of concrete were used, making it one of the largest civil engineering projects of its time.
The Grande Dixence dam stands at an impressive height of 285 meters (935 feet), with a crest length of around 700 meters (2,300 feet). It is constructed using stacked concrete blocks reinforced with metal structures. This massive structure allows the dam to impound a gigantic water reservoir with a capacity of nearly 400 million cubic meters (14 billion cubic feet), making it one of the largest artificial water reservoirs in the world.
The Grande Dixence is integrated into a complex power generation system. When water is released from the reservoir, it descends rapidly through tunnels and drives the turbines of downstream hydroelectric power plants. These turbines convert the kinetic energy of the water into mechanical energy, which is then converted into electricity by generators. The generated electricity is subsequently transmitted to the Swiss power grid.
In addition to its energy production function, the Grande Dixence also plays a significant role in water regulation. It helps control floods, manages water flows based on demand, and ensures a reliable water supply for the region, including drinking water.
Due to its iconic status and tourist appeal, the Grande Dixence offers guided tours that allow visitors to learn about its history, operation, and its impact on the Swiss economy and environment.
In summary, the Grande Dixence represents a remarkable engineering achievement, a source of renewable energy, and a major tourist attraction. It symbolizes Switzerland's commitment to clean and sustainable energy production while preserving the natural resources of the alpine region.

I did try to land a civilian and military turboprop aircraft on a dam in Turboprop Flight Simulator long ago and that actually kind of works actually if you stop those turboprops in TFS as quickly as possible
It is not a France. It is in Switzerland, Grande Dixence dam. It is tallest gravity dam in the world. One of the places on my bucket list.

Again, the reason the Headwind A330 performs so well is it spawns empty by default, no passengers or cargo and only 10% fuel. You can add a more realistic load using the tablet in the cockpit.
