I realize this is sort of a big ask, but can someone explain the bans to me? Or at least the most important bans?
I know I’m late. This worlds during the draft was focused on flex picks meaning champions that could be put into multiple roles.
The Elise ban I don’t understand a whole lot because Jankos is good at playing her and since they did this it limited his champion pool.
The Akali ban is an example of the flex pick. She can also side lane very well.
The Kai’sa in my opinion wasn’t a good ban for G2 mainly because Perkz performed the best on Kai’sa and Xayah. Although they did ban Kai’sa it forced SKT to ban xayah because they didn’t want them to have what is considered the two best adc (Kai’sa and Xayah).
For pantheon he was a perma ban the entire tournament for the team that had the last pick. This was because when pantheon would trade with he would simply heal because of his insanely high health regen. In addition, to this his gank setups is very strong because it’s a point and click stun (this is similar to the renekton and Elise combo).
As for Qiyana it was mostly targeting Caps. She has insane wave clear that allows Caps to roam to other lanes. It can also be flexed to Jankos but previous games he didn’t perform very well on her. Her ult is a huge threat when you are near the baron or dragon pits.
For Xayah I already said why she was banned.
Before we can talk about why Syndra and Kayle were ban we have to refer back to the power of flex picks. Gragas and yasuo can be flexed as a bot lane or as a jg and mid laner. So because of this G2 didn’t know exactly where they were going to go but assumed that they were going bot lane. So to limit the champions Faker can play they banned Syndra and Kayle. Kayle was likely due to her being a strong win condition.
As for Olaf and Reksai they were limiting the champions Jankos can play.
