    The teacher says: '2^1 - two multiplied by itself equals 2.
    Multipli by itself is a * a.
    This means that 2 * 2 = 4.

      its indeterminate

      @@brianmclogan And may I ask, sir, what's the difference between undefined and indeterminate? As in high school, we are also taught with the answer of undefined when facing situations like 0/0 or 0⁰ etc.

    Is it fair to say that the only proof that X^0=1 is that it fits the pattern? and if so, is a pattern really enough proof?

    • @brianmclogan
      @brianmclogan  9 лет назад +1

      DrCompass no the pattern will not suffice as a proof, just showing my students the pattern to make understanding how x^0=1

      O^0 is not defined

    • @justabunga1
      @justabunga1 4 года назад

      0^0 is indeterminate because it's not assigned to a single value. If we take a look at the pattern here, we know that 0 raised to any positive number is always equal to 0, but any non-zero number raised to 0 power is always equal to 1. 0 is a neutral number meaning that it's neither positive nor a negative number. We can't have both values to be both 0 and 1. That's why 0^0 is indeterminate.

    I know we all were taught that rule but it never made sense to me. My understanding is that x^y means "take 0 and "x" for y times". If you set 0 for y the only logical result is 0 and not 1.

  • @adambakas13
    @adambakas13 Год назад +2

    His logic is flawed. He said 2 to the power of one is 2 multiplied by itself one time. Obviously this means 2*2 which equals 4 but this is not the right answer so he misspoke. He should rethink his explanation because this one is misleading. Am I the only one who gets the feeling his students aren't even understanding?
