I just realised:
When Crepe was explaining how they woke up and the kingdom was completely empty, that meant they were all alone, with no others to interact with for like a 100+ mile radius. Chances are that most shops and area would have been locked meaning not many ways to get food. When DEC shows up, Crepe says "so cool, and so NICE" meaning DEC was not only the first cookie they saw for a while, but also a very kind one, almost like a role model, so no wonder Crepe admired her so much!
That combined with this memory means that Crepe is a WAY sadder character than everybody first thought, cuz I'm pretty sure nobody else paid attention to what they said when we first met them.

DEVSISTERS WHYYYY crepe’s crying sprite breaks my heart 😭 i wanna hug them
seriously tho, this is extremely interesting and hints at so many extra layers to strawberry crepe’s character. apparently they were from the dark cacao kingdom, and used to live in a village there? which doesn’t rlly make sense to me since i thought it was canon that they suddenly woke up in the deserted vanilla kingdom with no memory of how they got there. and plus, i had assumed they might’ve been of hollyberrian descent bc of the whole “berry” thing. i’m sure there’ll be an explanation for it at some point tho
plus, they seem to be terrified of affection and others depending on them, but at the same time, they’re also scared of being alone. maybe they didn’t only push black raisin, pure vanilla, and the raisin villagers away purely because they had never had a healthy friendship before (let alone multiple) and they didn’t know how to deal with everyone being nice to them. but maybe they also pushed them away because of past trauma that leaves them terrified of becoming close with others. judging by the dark cacaoian elders’ dialogue, back in their old village, crepe was also seen as different compared to the other kids, but the elders brushed it off because they thought the problem would fix itself. my guess is that crepe’s old village was one of the villages that had been raided for supplies while the kingdom was at its lowest point, and crepe’s village somehow died during that raid
although crepe seems to have made progress in overcoming this fear (now they’ve obviously become much more affectionate with black raisin, the raisin villagers, and espresso, since they made gifts for the raisin villagers during christmastime, they also made a coffee warmer for espresso, and they seem to have a close relationship with black raisin), it’s definitely still an issue and it still terrifies them, seeing as they call out for black raisin as soon as they wake up from that nightmare (which melts my heart btw 😭 and black raisin giving crepe one of her crows to sleep with to keep them company… my heart CANNOT TAKE THIS DEVSISTERS)
anyway, tl;dr devsisters please i just want crepe to be happy
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO SHARES MY VIEWS!!! I've written around... 2 essays about Strawberry Crepe and it's a shame that the fandom overlooks them, because they're really an amazing character (or maybe i think that because we're both 'child prodigies' with pretty bad upbringings)
their past is pretty unclear and this changes a lot of my thoughts on them but not for the worse like. Huh lore shift? there wasn't really much context to their dream and stuff, so... it might just be weird stuff mashed up because sometimes my trauma-related dreams do that

I never knew that Strawberry Crepe and Black Raisin were friends, then again I haven’t seen the full story. I’m a bit confused on why Crepe was upset though. Now I got a headcanon here below…
Strawberry Crepe cookie was Vanillian orphan and he did not have any cookies to be with him as a family or a friends around him even before dark flour war. Even at this time, He was lonely at this time as well, I think he would have pranked a lot and made a lot of accidents.
What’s more, the reason he is good at engineering is that there was the best engineer in Vanilla kingdom, and he may have taught Crepe in his lifetime before Dark flour war.
Their first encounter was when the engineer found Crepe was playing pranks with the other naughty cookies.
While Crepe hanging with them, he was trying to play prank on the engineer who later has become his master/educator.
After the engineer strictly admonished Crepe, Crepe told his situation that he was lonley, and the engineer accepted him as his assistant and a student.
The unknown Vanillian engineer cookie and Strawberrycrepecookie were in a master&an assistant and teacher&student relationship, however they were in a relationship more like grandpa and grandson.
When dark flour war started, the engineer was trying to hide Crepe in somewhere safe. He decided to hide his assistant/student, Crepe in a huge cyrobaking pod what has used for an experiments.
At least, he wanted to save Strawberrycrepe who felt like a family even he lose everything.
While the body was going freeze in the pod, Crepe cried to the engineer that please do not leave him.
After a long time, Crepe has woke up again but he forgot everything about his master and other Vanillian villagers who had live with him. However, he did not forget the engineering skills he learned before being sealed.
He felt lonely again and made wafflebots and some machines and live with them like family.
One day, while he was making a wafflebot,he met Darkenchantress who was passing nearby. Darkenchantress cookie praised that his engineering skill is perfect enough to destroy entire Earthbread.

Strawberrycrepe began to destroy the town by believeing her praise straight away as fell for that, and this is how the World Exploration 9 we know it started.

@@h20_qwq While Crepe seems to use he/him pronouns in the Korean dub (Korean doesn’t have gendered pronouns so IDK), they have been confirmed and shown to use they/them pronouns in the English dub by multiple sources. So if you’re talking about Korean Crepe he/him is fine, but if you’re talking about English dub Crepe they/them should be used.
