I think part of the reason your mother relates so much to this album is BECAUSE she's a mother. There's a lot of references not only to love and sex in a marriage, but to her relationship with her daughter, Blue. These are things you just won't get unless you have children or know what raising a child is like.

If i had to put my original reaction to this album in a video, it would be this! I didn't care for the same songs and parts she didn't..I lost it during Blow..then Rocket took me elsewhere mentally..and I stilllll cannot listen to Heaven (tears). Your mom is certainly a platinum member of the Beyhive. I love her commentary and her humor cracks me UP!!!! Not to mention she is ***FLAWLESS honey!!!

I totally know what you mean about "No Angel"! The juxtaposition of the tone she uses with that melody gives an effect that she's singing off key. Beyonce is too flawless to EVER, but over top of that melody, that's the effect it has and it's very off-putting. That's obviously the intention of the production, it wasn't an accident, but I feel the same way you do about it! Not my cup of tea!
I also share your reaction to "Heaven" every. single. time. I hear it! I cannot hear this song without tears springing to my eyes! Her vocalizations on this track sound like lamenting, like someone desperately wailing, crying out in despair.....if that someone were to cry in perfect pitch 😂 But seriously though, it's such a raw sound of pained emotion that it just hits that "nerve" for me, it's inescapable!
