When the cashier smashed my bread chips snack cakes eggs and fruit or veggies like tomatoes bananas and even bruiing apples or pears
I would take them right out from the cart and tell them to take those off my bill or have someone get me undamaged goods. If not they refuse I'd tell the manager to refund me those items or refund everything in the cart and i used to spend 2 to 3 hundred every 10 days at Aldi when i lived in NJ

Every corporation is doing this to the detriment of employees. Everyone I know that works like this with the best of intentions when they take the job quits after a year. It’s not sustainable. Retention is not the goal and then they wonder why no one in town will apply for a job. Our unemployment rates are about to rise drastically nationwide and ceos openly state their belief that more jobless people will allow them to hire people at lower rates of pay. What they refuse to acknowledge is the abuse of employees is what led to people not being able to work physically anymore. Then our politicians and corporations cry a loud how unemployment is up but no one wants to work anymore (homeless are that way because they just don’t want jobs etc) and the cycle repeats while they are busy pocketing their maximized profits. After a while taxes go up to pay for benefits and the country turns against itself spiraling to a new low. People are already doing theft in record numbers because they would rather be criminalized for stealing than be abused until their bodies are broke. And a new generation grows up believing if they work hard they could someday get that promotion or be the one making the big bucks. Little do they know they too will be consumed by the corporate beast the same as everyone else.

Checkout employees do damage groceries when checking out. They just throw things into the basket - I've had tomatoes thrown in and then heavy items thrown on top of them. One cashier damaged a gallon sized bottle of water. I pointed it out and he said, "it was like that, already." It wasn't.

While im checking out at Aldi, I use old grocery bagger tricks to help things go more smoothly. Such as heavy stuff like cans 1st, I keep refrigerated stuff together and leave delicate items like eggs, chips and bread last. This way, as they scan & move to the cart beside them, its easier for them to go faster while not worrying about something getting messed up

I have never been to an Aldi's. What's the big deal about making cashiers go a mile a minute? Not like there's a 100 foot line of people waiting. Rushing leads to many issues like mistakes, stress and over worked employees. I understand at Aldi's a customer has to bring their own bags and pack their own groceries so what if the customer can't bag as fast as the cashier can scan? Sounds like a reason to avoid Aldi's to me.

They need to get self check-outs at all the stores, I never have any problems in northwest Indiana stores with self check-outs, but in ghetto Chicago Heights the cashiers will literally throw your groceries at you while you're trying to catch the few items you purchased in your recycled Aldi bag, since you didn't grab a cart for those few items, they won't aim to be helpful & just drop them in the bag, they literally throw your groceries at you - talk about an easy way to lose long-time loyal customers, I'll make every effort not to go there again

  • @debbieturner7219

I love Aldi’s and will continue to go there. What a load of BS, to find out they are putting that kind of pressure on workers. Especially since they almost force you into using self-check lanes and have fewer employees working the cash registers.

  • @r.spivey3599

Not a fair system to either cashiers or customers. Though I appreciate getting out of the store quickly and do sometimes get annoyed with cashiers in other stores who are slow as molasses, I also want the cashiers to be friendly and engaging, but they can't engage much with the customers if they are rushed to push us out the door as fast as possible. Also, the cashier should not be punished if they happen to be working at a time when a lot of senior citizens are shopping. Seniors, and disabled people, are going to be a little slower to unload their carts onto the conveyor. I often feel quite rushed to pile my stuff onto the belt when I don't feel well or am suffering a lot of pain in my back. Now that I know the cashiers are rated on fast I move, it puts more pressure on me to help them. I also try to get my stuff on the belt quickly because I want to get to the front quickly and make sure my bread and produce isn't getting crushed because the cashiers are throwing the food into the cart. I know they move fast, though, so I always put the heaviest items on the belt first so those items go in the cart first and a bag of potatoes is not being tossed atop the produce. Now, I know why so many of them do that, but it's still upsetting.
