Welcome Everyone to the Tactical Tavern! I am your host Tomas Alas and in this video we are reviewing the Cold Steel Master Tanto in 3V. This is also offered in Vg-10 San mai but something about 3V steel really appeals to me. This “American Tanto” design is really what put Cold Steel and Lynn Thompson on the map for knife making. Now you can see it in movies and tv shows all the time. This tanto is especially good for tactical and defensive capabilities with a strong reinforced tip for added penetration. In this review we are going to go over the features of this Master Tanto taking a look at the pros and the cons to help you decide if this is right for your everyday carry, outdoor adventure, or next tactical mission!

Bro you ain't lying. It feels so good in the hand. The balance, the proper blade heft, the grip the kraton gives. It feels like one hit from it will leave an attackers arm or hand dangling off the bone.

Master Tanto Made in Japan in San Mai with leather sheath was my first Cold Steel and also my first real knife... wish to have it back😢😢😢

Hi Tomas, if you can, wrap some para cord through the sheath to give it some extra support.
I have the Magnum Tanto, i love it but my sheath is very strong, the openings aren't as large.

I got the blackout 3v a while ago. Seriously considering getting regular 3v and vg10 versions too. Killer knives!
love this blade , the grinds are awesome i bought this and the tai pan both at the same time both in 3v. gonna grab the gurka kukri in 3v as well then together with my o tanto and wakizashi that's me done. thanks for sharing. would love to be able to spin it like you but will probably end up needing stitches. 🤣🤣
There is a click if you put the knife into the sheath, you only need to push it a little bit more

Although the handle is pretty thick already- I would love to see a kobun tanto wrapped!!
I must admit that I have hundreds of Cold Steel Fixed and Pocket folders/blades but the one constant is the Master Tanto CPM 3V
A classic, but I always felt the pommel should have been more rounded so one could stab with the thumb on it, or thrust with the pommel in the palm of the hand, as practiced in Japanese martial arts. Great at randomly stabbing car hoods though.

What do you prefer? The crkt hz6 or this? I know this is way more robust but the hz6 is designed better imo for self defense.

I love the comfort and versatility of the cold steel
But if I only needed a designated tool for quickly taking out a threat the HZ6 is the way to go
Overall Master tanto is more robust but Hz6 is a better martial blade

Cold steels secure-ex sheaths apparently dull the edges because the compound its made of has glass in it. I probably would have gotten one if I hadn't seen tens of threads about their sheaths. It doesn't seem like cold steel cares about these complaints at all.
I tell you what the extra investment in the custom sheath was so worth it!
10/10 highly recommend - the blade rocks
I always try to pull knives out of them so that the edge doesn't grind on it. Never had any noticeable dulling that way.
