The shot at 6:23 shows why I sent back the Ace Pro 1 and went for DJI A5. The blobs and jitters are horrible in daily usage if you don't have Miami's sunshine. I love the Go 2 and have the One R for its 360 lenses, but Action 5 is miles ahead for all the reasons mentioned in this video. Subscribed, I just saw your "leaving Verge" video and came back here to comment. Well done Becca, I'm looking forward to your content!

Great review. I sold my Ace Pro and tried the Action 5 this year. So far I am enjoying color grading clips. 10bit D log looks so good graded. I wish the DJI magnetic mount would work both ways but I do find it more secure compared the the Ace Pro mag mount - it's really solid once lined up.
Honestly, this kind of content is inspirational. Thanks for the no-BS reviews! Also, any sort of video that mixes techy expertise with upstate NY Fall views is a major win for everyone.
Two biggest things that turned me away from the Ace Pro was the narrow FOV and the weight. Unfortunately, the Ace Pro 2 doesn’t seem to have improved either of those areas enough for me to consider buying one. DJI will continue to have my business for my needs. Great video though! Enjoyed it from start to finish
since Becca didn't mention, you don't know that Ace Pro 2 has the widest FOV currently 157 degrees compared to GoPro (156 degrees) and DJI 5 (155 degrees)
Your reviews are not only technically accurate and informative, they are so easy to watch! You just have a natural comfortable way of speaking! Gained a sub! Question, with the 2 chips in the insta360, do you think maybe 10bit could come as a firmware update in the future and if so, would this change your opinion?

I am so happy for you that you took the leap and left The Verge and are doing your own thing now. I've definitely heard people say "auto isn't pro." As a pro in my day job, I always thought: My job is to get the shot. The way I do that is irrelevant. Your reviews are *great.*
Would you mind talking about your audio recording process? I am noticing the level meter on the screen behind you and there’s considerable about compression and limiting happening. I am curious 🙂. Thank you for the awesome video. Glad you’re back on the channel full time.
I just subscribed after watching this video! I love how you make you comparison and review set up. You make up good points that even for a beginner would be understandable. I actually waited for a few more videos after I watched ur video leaving the Verge. And I am happy for you and I want to congratulate you for making that step. Hopefully seeing more videos on cameras and mobile phones. Thank you Becca!
Wow this video is the only one that I saw that showed how much the ace struggles in anything but perfect light I had to double take a couple times a lot of that footage looked horrible and you were genuinely trying to get good lighting thanks for bringing this up this makes me super skeptical about a lot of other reviewers cause you said that was a problem with the first one. I just got my first action camera this year I went with the DJI but my second pick was the ace and while watching reviews not once did someone bring this issue up they showed buttery smooth footage in every clip but your review showed both ace cameras with terrible footage how could other reviewers not include this information I would be very upset if I bought the ace and my footage came out so choppy and unclear
What's so bizarre is at first I didn't see a reason for me to watch this particular video because I thought I had nonise for an action camera. But then I remembered: I have a kayaking class coming up and wouldn't it be nice to have one of these cameras for when I go kayaking?? And thus, here I am having watched another Becca Amazing Video™️. ❤❤❤

It is a slippery slope and no insinuation of dishonesty is meant, but the whole I wasn't paid but was given a free camera to keep doesn't mean it wasn't sponsored.
Well, that's why some youtubers don't get invited to launch events and have to source the products out of their pocket, or have another brand non-relater to the product to sponsor them. Yhere are several ways to be sponsored. Take LTT and Dbrand relation. The last one gets them some amazing gadgets and they are sponsoringthe video so the youtuber doesn't own them nothing.

It is a weird rule but it is like you say, they are payed in a product. So nobody in belgium does free advertising anymore they want some extra money for it to pay for the taxes.
Solid review Becca! Thank you! Just got the A5 and ordered an Ace 2 to compare. I really only need this cam for one use case so I can wait to test. I know the A5 will have way better battery performance but it that 2X clarity zoom for my use case will be huge! One or the other will be the difference maker. Thanks again.
Not even in the market for one of these. Loves it. Watched it all! Loved those dewy morning shots! Very Scottish looking! Love it! Keep up the amazing work Becca!
Great video Becca. More and more people are buying action cams for vlogging. The DJI Action 5 Pro would be a better choice just because of the wireless bluetooth mics and more so for couple vloggers (which there are plenty nowadays) since the DJI can support 2x mics wirelessly while keeping the camera weatherproof.
I LOVE your takes on camera gear. I am just like you. I am what I would call a prosumer level buyer. I'd take raws but I'm not against using auto for convenience at all. Loving the new channel.
Ace Pro 2 looks great in good lighting but the flickering of the skyline behind you at the start of the video on the AP2 is awful. This is something they will need to fix before I'd purchase one. Thanks for a non-biased review, they are extremely rare nowadays.
You forgot or maybe it didn't happen to you but the cover for the memory card on the DJI A5P usually pops out when you take that usb cable (not easy to put back) and that ring around the lens came off after 3 uses and is somewhere in the woods at home . Super Night Mode is fantastic, but then the camera cannot be used as an action camera, but if you stand still or walk carefully, the function is fantastic. If someone clicks on my name/video, you can scroll down a bit to "DJI Action 5 Pro test in complete darkness with headlamp" and see when I'm testing DJI while running with a headlamp in a dark forest. Not so enjoyable, but no action camera offers that in the dark.
If you want a "Pro" action camera, put a Sony 14mm F1.8 on an FX3 and you have a "Pro" action camera. Pro in the action camera / cell phone space = Marketing scheme, high end productions do use action cameras, but most use 3 / 4 year old go pros. Both of these "Pro" cameras have the same sensor (the exact same sensor), both are made at the same location, the only difference is the UI and small tweaks to color science etc.
But who's gonna put that on top of a helmet, or on the chin guard on a full face helmet😁 That's too much weight. But for a walk you can do it walk with a gimbal or cage.
@@mtbboy1993 Fair enough, but I think it depends on how "Pro" we are talking. Look at the motorcycle scene in batman for instance, they had 1st person perspectives, I guarantee you they didn't hook any cameras up to the riders, "Pro" level shoots are usually not going to use a camera like this for A cam shots. However there are "Pro" level show like Mythbusters that would use a camera like this for their A cam.
@@PrestonGladd But all of this defeats the purpose of a action camera. I saw a Norwegian company MovieBird when recording the movie Børning 3 they used multiple Blackmagic Design Cinema Camera 4K with 12mm mounted with some sort of cage aroudn the car, and Ricoh 360 deg camera on the roof for sky recoding to add it in post on to the car footage. Plus a bigger one on arm on a pickup. They used lens caps to prevent stones damaging the lens.
@@PrestonGladd As for more pro video I got A7iv 24-70 GMII. Can ge to the lenses if I need to. If I get a cage I can mount stuff to it. Make it a video rig. I need an action cam for action, but I always have a my a7iv with me. But I will get a mount to put my phone in a monitor, probably will get a mic too.
Awesome little run down! + 100% on the 10bit colour - way too important for those of us using these in multicam / bigger setups! :) Great conclusion & final points - might be worth having a small little graphic / text on the final points (ie pros & cons list ) Only other thing wouldve been nice to see an A7S/FX3/R5 mirrorless footage thrown into the comparison for reference here and there (esp colours, DR , skintone reference etc)
Thanks for keeping up these videos, Becca. In a timely manner, I've been watching to buy an action camera, too, in part to use as a webcam for some video blogging because I don't have your and other video blogger's money for an FF camera. Yes yes, I realize most smart phones, including my iPhone Pro Max 14, is perfectly fine for shooting video blogs but wanted a secondary camera.
First!!!! Great video! Would love for you to do an episode on low light out and about at restaurants and places noting the quality or lack there in of different camera gear and what you think is the best especially considering the differing type of lighting situations that you would run into. Keep it going! Becca!!!!!❤
@becca I noticed you were using the more expensive insta360 quick release mount in your video (sold separately), which I totally agree is far superior, with the added option of a threaded tripod mount at the bottom. In fact I have one for my GoPro 12 as well ad my X3 as well, standardising the mounts across these different cameras. However, the default cheaper plastic magnetic mount included with the Ace Pro is even worse than DJI’s Action 5 mount. That is probably the one most people will end up having to deal with.
I had the GoPro Black 9, then got the DJI Osmo Action 4, OMG the DJI is so much better! Especially for underwater snorkeling! The automatic white balance is awesome. Menus are just so much better and the front screen being touch is great too.
Awesome vid Becca, I'm a heavy user of the Insta360 which is a great camera and now shopping for an action cam (or 2) for moto vlogging and really struggling between both. I like the screen and software for the Insta but I love the mics and connectivity with the DJI. (and v long battery life)
Action 5 Pro is keeping its crown for sure! As a scuba-diver, free-diver and hiker/runner I would trust more to DJI Action 5 Pro. It handle underwater way better. It gets 20meters no-housing depth. And it is cheaper almost 100$. Is there at least something, that Insta360 Ace 2 Pro can put on top?
@@AdamHelb good call. However zoom features on action cameras usually are killing the quality so bad. Honestly, I don't know who and when will ever use a zoom feature with action camera.
@@SupersonicTraveller low light brightness, though I would like to see how much each of them jitter when used in cycling/skiing/motorcycle at night. Almost all reviews and comparisons are just people walking
@@kaltask1 I have a video on my channel called "I Took My DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro DEEPER Than Recommended", where I tested Action 5 Pro running before the sunrise. Also scuba-diving at 20meters depth. And in the next few days I will have another video comparing different bitrate modes in the low-light conditions. Stay tuned!
I have the Insta360 Ace Pro (original model), and for me the "clarity zoom" is amazing, is a lossless zoom (not like DJI one). then, lowlight mode is incredible in both old and new Ace Pro, and also on the DJI 5 Pro, but the new Ace Pro can record in this mode in 4K 60FPS, not like the other two, and that´s a game changer feature. then, 8K 30FPS video; that is awesome. I have 8K 24FPS in my Ace Pro and it is incredibly detailed (if you want to record some amazing nature shots, for example). I can´t imagine how it would be with 30FPS. for me, having 10 bit color depht is nothing compared with these exclusive Ace Pro features. in the reviews I watch I can´t really appreciate one camera having a "better" color over the other. so I don´t think that would be a must have for the mayority of users. maybe the battery is better in the DJI (not sure), but you can just carry with you other batteries if you need them. then, they say that the Insta360 app is the best one far away form the others (personally I can´t compare them). and the other advantage of the DJI is the underwater resistance. again, something that you can match (and surpass) just using the underwater case of the Ace Pro. Ace Pro 2 (maybe 1 too) can now add the GPS (and all that kind of stuff) from carrying just your phone (or other devices) with you. I think Ace Pro 2 have some great advantages to "put on top" of the Action 5 Pro, that are more important (for me) than more water resistance and 10 bit color depht.
I used these kind of action cams a lot, but when I bought and used the insta360 go3, these types “form factor” of action cams became obsolete for me. I said for me because if I want to vlog with quality I use my dji Osmo pocket 3 and leave the insta360 go3 for action and pov. Yes, size meters a lot and small is the way to go for action cams. Easy to mount, magnetics and remote view your footage for me is better them low light features, resolution and frame rates. When insta360 release the go4 I’ll upgrade without a doubt.
The physical size of the Osmo Action is why I decided to buy one in the first place. The Action 3 I had was only a bit wider than my Go Pro Hero Black 7, which I still have and works great! All the other 'action' cameras are sized like bricks these days. I sold the Action 3 the other week and was going to get the Action 5 Pro but some reviews about the video quality and differences between the 5 and the 4 persuaded me to buy an Osmo Action 4. Got it cheaper than the latest DJI discounts as it's an Amazon return. Good thing is I can return it no questions asked if I don't like it! 😁
If the ace pro 2 had 10 bit then which camera would you personally pick to use? I have the action 4 and want to upgrade but don’t know which to get. I’m a full time single dad with a 3 year old boy so in a way the subject tracking is nice but in a way that pause function on the ace pro 2 can really come in handy! Help me decide 😂! Awesome video btw. First time seeing one of your videos but definitely just earned a sub!
for better simplication, choose DJI if your intent is Flexible Picture control and I mean, doing it every single time like 90% of video shoot. if you're an Auto kinda person and do some bit of picture control, then Ace Pro 2. honestly, which ever is the cheapest and offer the most accessories is the answer. wait for Black Friday!
Thanks to you and few other creators I saved myself from buying a gopro simply because I am new in this jenre and tought it's been easily dominating other action cameras. I purchased my first action cam as action 5 pro, to film my volleyball games, and having the satisfaction of making right decision. Btw I would love you to put battery comparisons in your videos. People think these action cams are mostly used in outdoor activites, indeed they are. Yet there are many who are looking for a stable, budget video cameras for indoor activities too.
happy u choose dji , i don't know what is ur reason but insta 360 footage is bad in sunlight too , for everyone watch from 7.15 to 7.20 ,, and u will be able to notice this time to time in whole video ,
I shoot with the Pocket 3, have two DJI Mic 2 transmitters and the receiver. But, I recently ordered the Ace Pro 2. For instances where I would choose an action cam over the Pocket 3, such as at the beach, snorkeling, hiking, walking/running, etc. I'd prefer to use the on-board audio so I don't have to hassle with any mics or worry about dropping them or getting water on them. Of the three, the on-board audio on the Ace Pro sounded the best in every single video I've watched except for yours. If I get it and get the same results, I might send it back. I never shoot the same scene with more than one cam, so color matching isn't an issue for me, but the fact you lose face priority exposure in D-Log M is.
So, what do you consider "pro" for an action camera? I'm not being snarky, I'm actually curious. I'm trying to film skiing. And these action camera just look ... like action cameras. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Sony FX3 with a DJI Mini gimble. Thoughts? P.S. Subscribed.

Only other thing wouldve been nice to see an A7S/FX3/R5 mirrorless footage thrown into the comparison for reference here and there (esp colours, DR , skintone reference etc)
Thanks for keeping up these videos, Becca. In a timely manner, I've been watching to buy an action camera, too, in part to use as a webcam for some video blogging because I don't have your and other video blogger's money for an FF camera. Yes yes, I realize most smart phones, including my iPhone Pro Max 14, is perfectly fine for shooting video blogs but wanted a secondary camera.
i love the style you have with these review videos, subs
The homie Becca cooking up as always 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Love watching every video of yours since you left the Verge - keep on rocking!
Loved the video! I totally agree on the DJI mount, I always find it more fiddly than it should be!
Becca we need your videos in HDR (if possible). this is the perfect channel for it.
Great unbiased review! Question, did you notice the audio in wind with the Ace Pro 2 wind microphone cover?
DJI everyday!
I had the GoPro Black 9, then got the DJI Osmo Action 4, OMG the DJI is so much better! Especially for underwater snorkeling! The automatic white balance is awesome. Menus are just so much better and the front screen being touch is great too.
Great vid! Which camera would you say is better at night shots? I would like to see a video comparison more in depth, keep it up!
Thanks Becca for the review and comparison
Thanks for giving a verdict rather than beating around the bush like all others. Buying the DJI
Awesome vid Becca, I'm a heavy user of the Insta360 which is a great camera and now shopping for an action cam (or 2) for moto vlogging and really struggling between both. I like the screen and software for the Insta but I love the mics and connectivity with the DJI. (and v long battery life)
Love the editing on the videos!
The Ace Pro 2 has a zoom that can be used inside the housing
I think Ace Pro 2 have some great advantages to "put on top" of the Action 5 Pro, that are more important (for me) than more water resistance and 10 bit color depht.
agree with you
I used these kind of action cams a lot, but when I bought and used the insta360 go3, these types “form factor” of action cams became obsolete for me.
For the best "Pro" I understand the DJI winning, but for the "Action Cam" the magnetic mount is a huge win for me.
They both have magnetic mounts
@@Pharaohinthecutexactly lol
this is the vid I was waiting for before I pulled the pin and buy a new action cam , thanks
Nice review and comparison! Thank you!
for better simplication, choose DJI if your intent is Flexible Picture control and I mean, doing it every single time like 90% of video shoot. if you're an Auto kinda person and do some bit of picture control, then Ace Pro 2. honestly, which ever is the cheapest and offer the most accessories is the answer. wait for Black Friday!
Great video Becca. Definitely taking your opinion into account on a future purchase.
I don't really have a need or want for an action cam, im just here for the gorgeous outdoor shots! What the heck?
I'm glad that I didn't wait for the Ace Pro 2 and bought the Action 5 Pro instead.
Wider fov is huge for us action users who snowboard. Wind cancelation also.
Bit surprised by the final result, but guess I still need to learn a lot more about colour matching.
Great review. I want to buy one mainly for trips and to record my son’s soccer games. Which one is the best option.
Becca just been becca, we love it 🎉
Thanks to you and few other creators I saved myself from buying a gopro simply because I am new in this jenre and tought it's been easily dominating other action cameras.
I absolutely love your content Becca! Which state are you living in? I love the secluded quietness and nature that surrounds you.
happy u choose dji , i don't know what is ur reason but insta 360 footage is bad in sunlight too , for everyone watch from 7.15 to 7.20 ,, and u will be able to notice this time to time in whole video ,
Nice video! I like the way you review these 2 action cam.!!
Thoughts? P.S. Subscribed.
Nice to see a young lady getting out in nature & living life to it's fullest.
thank you for non sponsored review. sad to see others i really like become just Advertising engines for large corporations and majority of audience dont even know it.
Thanks for your unbiased review!
Thank you for the honest review!
