- September 27th 2019 -- the top ranked Mater Dei Monarchs took a plane trip for the first time since 1991 to face perennial power St. John's College High School. The Monarchs were led by 5 star quarterback Bryce Young, who just that week had flipped his commitment from USC to Alabama. The Cadets had a talented roster as well, including LSU commit WR Rakim Jarrett and Clemson commit DE Tre Williams.

I’m from Texas and usually argue Tx vs Cali, but man, Bryce Young is for real.
Texas football is still awesome. When you have public school putting private school money into a school. You see why a community gets behind the local school every Friday night. I can only imagine if Poly had Allen facilities on campus. They would be powerhouse like no other. LB Poly doesn’t even have a on campus stadium after all those talented teams they had. Even there track team still runs on a dirt track! It’s just sad to see!

@@brentwilliams7122 LB Poly has an on field all turf football and athletic field with an all weather track since last year. It was long overdue. The stadium is only used for Freshman and JV Football because the stands are still on one side and can't hold enough people to host a Poly varsity game. Those home games for Poly are still played at Veterans stadium.

St. John's College is now 0-3 vs CA's bigs (MD, SJB, DLS). That's how you build the program, though. Take your lumps, travel well, attract more talent.

This Bama fan so hyped about Young; he's the epitome of class on and off field, true leadership skills honed by hid Dad; easy to see in his body language, effect on teammates. That Mater Dei HC is one classy dude too, judging by his impeccable dress and coiffed hair/stache; what a contrast to the way most HCs nowadays, college, HS, pro, dress so casual bordering on sloppy, lol.
yeah coach rollo is a good dude and knows his football. he even shook that crooked ref's hand after the game LOL. IF I WAS THE COACH, i would've gave him a piece of my mind lol. also a side story, rollo is also a great football mind. i remember back in the late 90's when long beach poly was a top 5 team in the nation and was about to face rollo's mater dei team in the finals, coach rollo had a helicopter with mater dei's colors fly over long beach poly's practice for some scouting of their plays and to psyche out poly's players and coaches.that year poly had way more div1 athletes than mater dei had and mater dei was the definite underdog. when both teams actually played in the finals, it ended up in a tie with poly's players crying take it as a huge loss while coach rollo and his team earned a hard moral victory with an upset tie with long beach poly sharing the title trophy.

@Goatbe Bryant i watched it live too. the refs tried their dam best to keep it close. that should've been a safety for mater dei in the first quarter, because leading up to that their d was playing light's out. the refs certaily changed the momentum against mater dei's defense in the first half.

Mater Dei is a true high school powerhouse. Local talent, always loaded, coaches always get the most out of their kids.
High school basketball was gradually ruined the last 20-25 years by AAU, and national prep schools that aren’t even actual schools. Now football is going down the same road. Places like IMG and others are ruining HS football, albeit not as bad as basketball yet.
Here in PA, we have Catholic powerhouses who get lots of the best local talent, which the public schools don’t like, but it’s still LOCAL TALENT, and they are actual schools. In Texas, it’s still all about the public schools, which is why Texas HS ball is awesome.
These nationally recruiting phony schools are ruining high school sports. It’s a huge net negative for the game.
