Very good summary. I'm heading for Gold (inspired by Matt's Planet videos) and agree that BA Holidays are a great way to achieve this - some business class (Club Europe) packages are really very good value. Status is great for people who fly a lot and where a lot of their flights are in Economy or Premium Economy. Choosing seat at booking and lounge access are the main perks for me although priority boarding is good too.
Great video. You came up as a suggestion *Subscribed*! I’ll be getting the BA Amex 100 tier points in the next month and I really hope they roll this out as a permanent after May, as the 200 a year would be a nice boost. We’re having 2 BA Holidays this year and like you, hope the double points offer is extended to 2025. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Happy travels!
I don't fly BA much but i noticed while booking an Avios redemption for next year that id become Bronze and i realise now that must be because i booked a 5 night holiday flying business in Europe earlier this year. Didnt even realise at the time. So I've checked how many TPs i have seems i need 280 more for silver. So i suppose if i did one more holiday that would work. The main use to me would be using it to book seats, though as i will be flying business solo that is if limited use, eg in April im flying business on a 1-2-1 config so any of the single seats is good for me.
Yeah I’d say if you’re only planning to fly business class and if you’re in the new club suites there’s not too much benefit to silver status. It’ll matter a lot more if flying in any other class or if you’re in the old style club world, but probably not worth going out of your way to obtain. But if you’ll get it from trips you’re completing anyway it’s a nice bonus to have.
Avios is the name of the frequent flyer miles used by BA and a few other oneworld airlines like Qatar. You can earn the points through flying, credit card spend and various other methods (I have a video about this on my channel), and you can use them to book flights
Thanks, great informative video! Do you know if you can earn points on your BA frequent flyer account flying JAL or another partner airline? I booked a JAL direct this year but unclear how to earn the points.
Yes you can earn tier points with BA when flying with oneworld partners like JAL. But you may have needed to credit the account to your BA account at the time of booking. If you’ve not flown the flight yet, you should get the points within a few days of this. If you’ve already flown the flight but not received the points, there is a missing tier points section on the BA website to submit a claim
Thanks for sharing. This is probably one of the clearest videos on the BA Exec Club. So just to confirm, if my tier point collection year ends on 8 August 2024 I will not lose any tier points gained between 1 April 2024 and 8 August as these will be carried forward as part of the adjustment rules. Is that correct?
Thank you! So, I’m not 100% clear on exactly how the adjustment will work, but I believe how it will work is that initially you’ll lose the tier points on 8th August and start a new tier point collection year. However, then in April 2025 it will look back at what points you earned from April 24 to August 24 and will add these to what you earned from August 24 to April 25 and will apply that to your account at that point. So let’s say you earn 200 tier points from April 24 to August 24 and 400 between August 24 and April 25. Your tier point collection year would then be ending with 400 points, but because it’s ending early they’ll then apply the 200 tier points earned between April 24 and August 24 to give you 600 points for the year and will apply silver status from April 25 which would expire in April 26
Charles. On your trip to Sofia, how did you get into Sofia from the airport? Did you use one of the airport Taxi's, get a bus, hire a car or did you use a hotel shuttle? Cheers Steve. C.
Such a shame that the only good things BA seem to do are by accident. I'll keep getting my companion vouchers and using them, but there are so many more better players in the market.
@nibblebytes have a check to tokyo. I got my 2 returning tickets using companion voucher for 500gbp × 59k avios for june 2025. The actual flight was 980.00 pp. The best deal is definitely business class but you need to have loads of points which also means loads of shopping and money spend on BA Card. Lol
Thanks for a helpful video, however as far as I'm aware you cannot earn tier points if you upgrade at on the day of your flight at check-in. We did this twice last year and I then had a very long message exchange with BA about why we couldn't earn tier points. I'm not sure what happens if you upgrade via the app or online before you ask if upgrades are available at check-in?
You don’t earn the extra tier point on an operational upgrade ie one you get for free, but should earn them on paid cash upgrades. I think Iberia don’t give extra tier points for this but BA do. Was yours a free or avios upgrade or did you pay cash?
If I remember correctly we part paid in Avios to reduce the cost of the flights slightly when we booked them, and then used an Amex cc to pay for the upgrades at check in. The upgrades were out and back from Lisbon and a return leg to LHR from Bologna. @@charlesontravels
At 9:23 I’ve listed some European destinations that earn 80 tier points per flight from London. These tend to be the best bet for £ per point. Trying to find a cheap flight or BA holiday to any of these destinations using the cheap fare finding or holiday search on the BA website would be a good place to start looking
Well hopefully this video will give you a few tips on how to boost those points. Some of the basics though are that tier points reset each year, so if you only have 15 you might have had points earned previously that have expired. And basically the more you fly and the more you fly in premium cabins, the more you earn
Good video and thanks for the mention!
Thanks Matt!

I liked the style. Pitched at the right level for most people. Others can get really technical really quickly
Thanks!
Agreed 👍🏾. I like matts videos but he sometimes confuses me but this video is really informative
I’m on track as well, for gold had to adjust my flight plans slightly to the new Tier point adjustment.
But taking a few BA flights this year….
Charles. Apparently the BA holidays offer double points runs until June 25.

Excellent! Glad to hear it’s been extended again! Thanks Steve!
Winning the euromillions lottery would help

Hi Steve, I just hopped on the metro. There’s a metro station right outside the airport so nice and easy.
How do i activate the Tier points on the BA Amex Premium card? I cant see it anywhere online. Thanks
I believe that offer has now ended and they don’t seem to have replaced this with a new offer
Great video
Thanks very much!

I just earned one and it seems like a bit of a scam. It doesn’t feel like I’m getting a free seat when I price it up.

Good job, learning more about ba 😊
The first level of tier status is Blue, not Bronze. Yes you are at the bottom of the ladder, but it is still a tier status level.
