@3:50: The difference is because Hungary was torn apart in the first world war, and most of her larger cities were given to the surrounding countries. For example Pozsony is now called Bratislava and is the capital of Slovakia, and this city had been the capital of the Hungarian Kingdom along centuries, and a lot more in Transsylvania (in Hungarian called Erdély meaing "past the forests") : Nagyvárad (Oradea in Romanian), Kolozsvár (Cluj-Napoca), Temesvár (Timisoara), Arad(Arad), Marosvásárhely (Targu Mures). These are about the same size or even bigger than Debrecen. Of these Nagyvárad,Kolozsvár,Marosvásárhely have significant Hungarian population even today, and were major cities in Hungary a 100 years ago, when Hungary was 3 times bigger than today. So actually what you've seen recently is just a fragment of it, if you'd like to see similar sites I'd recommend you to visit Romania. Nagyvárad is not even far from Debrecen, only 1 hour distance, so it's perfect for a daytrip and it was the cultural capital of Hungary before WWI (it was called the Hungarian Paris). @7:50 The reason why you see the same kind of people is because you only traveled in the so called Western world. This is the modern part of the world, and our societies are mainly based on Christian morals (even including non-Christians) and Greeco-Roman culture. However the so called East is very very different.
That hut at the beginning was stunning. It was actually built by William Shakespeare two million years ago entirely out of Lego. Very few people know that!
My uni had 'pub nights'' too! The idea was that students and teachers got together in an auditorium, then went out to a pub to get to know each-other better. It's a great idea, and was heavily encouraged.
Thumbs up Felicia! Great speech. You are so right. By travelling you learn that we all are human and so very similar indeed. Btw, when I lived in Poland for almost 4 years, it got dark during the winter at 3 pm also. It was depressing!
Great videos, i'd suggest maybe separating em into two different segments first, more informative on the culture and history of the country and specific places youre visiting and second more about your personal experiences. And 6.50 - 7.30 talk was kinda inspiring :). Good Luck.
