Mokuba: "Hooray, I can finally have some ALONE time for once! Time to call Tea about the bet she now LOST HAHAHA!!... I really shouldn't hang out that much with Seto if I start to laugh like him when I win at something once."
Weirdly, Joey winning a duel by psyching an opponent out actually IS character development for him. His biggest losses (off the top of my head Vs. Yugi in Duelist Kingdom and Vs. Marik in Battle City) are because he gets intimidated into not pressing the advantage when he has it. Him taunting an opponent into a misplay is... genuinely, him learning from his own failures.
And he has done that to people to, so its in character (though he usually only does it when he's confident). Pretty sure he has been like "Are you SURE you want to do that?" And "Are you SURE that's your choice?".
@@thekittenfreakifyJoey lost because he played cautiously and didn’t press on his advantage. The physical trauma that he endured was because of his caution.

I like how Joey reveals his stole Keith's Time Machine after Duelist Kingdom, but he gives it back to him and hopes that they can have a fair rematch someday after he beats Keith in R.
R as a whole was alright, but that Joey Vs. Bandit Keith fight was amazing. Made me wish BK appeared in Millennium World. His redemption arc would have gone hard.
Fun facts: 1. The story of R was created by Takahashi himself way before as it was intended to be part of the original manga, but it ended up being cut. 2. In chapter 14, Kaiba proposes the idea of creating a facility to train duelists, a direct reference to Duel Academia in GX. 3. The only time Yugi/Atem tries to use Ra in manga continuity is in Yugioh R, although the summon was negated (in the original manga he only summons Ra so that he can crate Horakhty, not to use Ra itself. He did use it to destroy Diabound in the memory world, however Yami Bakura rewound time so it never happened.)
Another fun fact is that after Yugi's duel with #2, Atem says that Yugi is possibly the only one who can defeat him...alluding to the ceremonial duel. (which was better in the anime) I haven't read the actual manga ceremonial duel in a while, but the other weird part about this is that it gives Atem an idea of how Yugi's deck is going to look and how he's going to duel when they face off. I don't think he had that knowledge in the anime, which was a benefit for Yugi.
@@jimmysanders505 After the Duel at pier in Battle City when everyone was leaving, Yami Yugi stated if one person could beat him then its Yugi. When Yami Yugi was about to build his deck to face Yugi, Yugi, who has not once acted in such a way before in the entire manga, cockily stated that he knew all of Atem's moves. This ruined the Duel because you now know BS is going to happen. And it did. Takahashi had to force Atem to lose during moments he could have won. The turn Atem summoned Obelisk, Takahashi could have made Atem summon Ra instead to win on that turn because Yugi had no cards to defend. Instead of dealing 4000+ dmg to Yugi with Ra, Yugi takes 1000 dmg with Obelisk's atk. The other moment was the penultimate turn when Takahashi made Atem draw multiple cards and he did nothing with them to bank everything on Osiris. Atem had won his games mainly with using Magic and Traps to create a win, but this time he was relying on "power" (high atk) to win the game. Also, Takahashi came up with the setting. Itou was the one to do the rest so its pointless to connect it to the main manga. R released after the manga ended, so it takes into account the reader read the manga, which is why it references the final duel and has Yami Yugi summon The Tricky, for example. We don't know how it would play out by Takahashi if it was in the original manga. It doesn't give an idea to Atem on what Yugi's deck looks like. Also also, the anime is irrelevant. It's an adaptation of the manga following it from point A to point B while changing things in-between. Yami Yugi in the anime doesn't know what Yugi plays like just like in the manga it is adapting.
I guess calling him 'Yugi of Darkness' or 'Dark Yugi' stopped being fitting, after he stopped being the powers of darkness, amplifying the confidence of Yugi, allowing him to use Black Magic to punish people who would abuse him, his friends or the innocent. And instead made it the Spirit of an Ancient Pharaoh. (Yeah, 'Yami' used to not be a person. In an interview, when asked if Dark Yugi was a separate person or not, Kazuki said it was just Yugi, having his personality be changed by Darkness. So, I'm guessing the spirit of the Pharaoh was added later on. Probably somewhere around when Bakura puts their souls into an RPG-style board game
@@SakuraAvalon "In an interview, when asked if Dark Yugi was a separate person or not, Kazuki said it was just Yugi, having his personality be changed by Darkness." Add my nostalgia for Borders to the list. My family used to go there every week. I wasn't all that into manga, but it is where I bought my first anime DVDs as well as where I got into WotC's Star Wars RPG and later 3.5 D&D. Oh and and it's also where I bough most of my Animorphs books, even though I technically got into the series buying a random book midway through the series at K-Mart (another store that used to be a thing), but Borders was where I could by back issues and reliably get the newest issues as they came out. It was kinda sad when they went out of business, but hardly all that surprising. I'd ocasion visit to brows, but I hadn't really shopped there for a few years leading up to the closure because everything I used to buy there I could get cheaper online. I did, However, pick up a delux collectors Darth Maul lightsaber on heavy discount during their everything must go clearance sales at least.
I loved that about the start of the series, but quickly lost interest in the anime when there was dark psychic powers and the destruction of the world involved. Imagine trying to do right what Yugioh missed and messing up due to trying to become more like Yugioh.
I find Cardfight Vanguard dose a better job at being a card game anime then Yu-Gi-Oh. Deck building, opening packs, hanging out at locals, entering tournaments, they even talked about winning image or win condition. Basically it knows the main focus is making the card game itself look fun to play so you would go out and buy it, which I ended up doing for a bit.
@@cjv-x10a4 Which makes the arcs where there's supernatural BS involved and the fate of the world/universe depends on a card game my least favorite ones. If I wanted to see that kind off stuff, I'd just go back to YGO.
@@RyanAtlus Yeaaah it's a real shame they went all crazy Yugiohish. I kinda enjoyed the initial heel turn of one of the characters due to "supernatural" forces, but the escalation after that was insane. At the very least, it took them a while to get lost in the nonsense.
8:15 The same thing happened in 5ds. Yusei was all like "a real duel is when two opponents come at each other with everything they got. they're supposed to use their monsters to fight each other. If you were a real duelist, you wouldn't be milling my deck right now. No true duelist would be happy if they won because of some technicality. "
A variation of this also happened in GX. Jaden had to face a Society of Light member known as Howard X. Miller. He was a sadistic monster (and was even a lawyer in the 4Kids dub), who loved crushing the hopes of duelists by milling their decks. Jaden defeated him via ironically getting Miller’s deck, well… milled. You gotta love defeat by irony.
And this is where Team Unicorn should have responded with "Heheheheheh. Oh Yusei, don't you realize that when it comes to dueling, the only thing that truly matters is the final result? Everything that happens in a duel up to that point is just a means to an end. As long as you play by the rules and attain victory, why should the process matter? The fact is, Yusei, we read your team and your strategy like an open book from the first draw of the game! And now that you're about to lose, you're desperately trying to save face and goad me into forsaking my team's strategy at the last moment! Sorry, but it isn't going to work! In case you forgot, your deck is completely empty! That means when I end my turn, you will lose during your Draw Phase due to a deck out! And with your defeat comes the elimination of Team 5D's from the WRGP! You call it a win on a technicality, but the truth is we of Team Unicorn outplayed you guys the entire duel! R was actually my first Yugioh manga. Pretty nostalgic memories w/ this one. It's also pretty cool how this replaces the Seal of Oricalchos arc in the manga. It would've been cool to see this get animated.
2:39 Fun fact, Akira Ito who wrote Yu-Gi-Oh R eventually move on to write Cardfight!! Vanguard. EDIT: 12:45 Guess I should have finished watching before making the comment. XD
12:44 Was wondering if you were going to bring it up, glad you did. Because THIS is the reason R never was animated. He basically helped create the biggest competitor to Yu-Gi-Oh! in existence (Cardfight Vanguard has become bigger than Yu-Gi-Oh in Japan). Konami (the spiteful jerks that they are) is most likely not happy about that and wouldn't mind that people actually forgot about this series. They last thing they want is to pay author rights to the guy responsible for their competition.
Nope. The generation of the original series was over and there's no point in animating a 24-26 episode spinoff when the focus is on a full length series that lasts 3 years to promote the card game.
Prediction: Yu-Gi-Oh Royal, it adds a couple new characters and their own story arcs, plus another semester after Christmas. May or may not include grappling hook.
I always wanted a show where Yugi is in college studying to be an archaeologist and Atem contacts him from the spirit realm with clues to whatever happened to Yugi 's father who was lost on an expedition when he was really young. Also have a 4-way duel where Yugi is being recruited by three different fraternities and he agrees to join whichever one beats him in a Magnet Warrior Battle Royale duel with each fraternity representative using a different variation on Magnet Warrior deck with their own Magna ace monster. But Yugi ends up winning and doesn't join any of them.
I always have to remind people that R exists even in Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom spaces lol... hope this brings more awareness to a pretty cool bit often forgotten piece of Yu-Gi-Oh! history!
@@luisgabrielramos7923 I’d say that if you enjoyed Waking the Dragons or the Pyramid of Light movie, you would probably enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh! R. It doesn’t really enrich the original story at all, but it has some really awesome monster designs and artwork, plus it introduces some new perspectives on older characters like Bandit Keith and Pegasus, even if those details are kind of weird. In that way, it’s a lot like those previously mentioned filler stories in the anime: there are some interesting (if not always well executed) lore details and cool visuals, but it just doesn’t add anything substantial to the story or characters. If you can look past the fact that the plot is a bit repetitive and nonsensical, then I’d say give it a shot! As someone whose favorite arc is Waking the Dragons, I’m always willing to overlook a bit of absurdity for a unique twist on my favorite series. Its definitely not required reading or anything, but I think it’s enjoyable to see something a little different every once and a while. I’d recommend seeing if your library has it (my library actually has the full series) to see if it’s for you before buying anything. Hope that helps!
Cardfight Vanguard is actually super fun as well! I just picked it up a few months ago and I've been having a blast with it. Never checked out the anime though
The Vanguard anime takes several notes from the Yugioh anime, namely in the form of convoluted reasons why rectangular cardboard is how the world is saved from apocalyptic threats. In Yugioh its because some vague Egyptian black magic, in Vanguard its because of some vague psychic connection with another planet. It's pretty fitting though given that Akira Ito used to work on Yugioh.
The first season is really good; it's mostly about a kid as he goes from locals, to regionals, to eventually becoming the national champion. After that it sort of became off-brand Yu-Gi-Oh though.
The first season is actually a decent teaching tool to show someone how the game is played but in later seasons they start skipping around a lot between games so you don't see every play and only really get snips of the end.
@@RafilaWan A term for getting a "lucky" pull off a draw usually. In Vanguard, whenever your vangaurd unit attacks you check the top card(s) of the deck to see if you pull one with a trigger icon that gives you extra benefits. So its not uncommon to see someone's entire standing in the game change off a lucky trigger pull.
Dude, Cardfight Vanguard's anime is a trip. The game itself is a blast, I have plenty of good memories hanging out in a card shop opening promo packs and playing Vanguard tournaments. But if you ever review the anime, I hope you review more than just season 1 because MAN that anime goes to some crazy places!
It’s been forever since I’ve read these books. All I remembered was the Joey/Keith fight, the Yugi/Tenmo fight, and something about Gekko saying he’s “perfected” as a duelist
If you need a refresher on the “perfected” thing, basically Gekko was a prodigy and the best duelist under Pegasus’ wing for a time but both Pegasus and Gekko himself realized that he peaked way early, so he’s “perfected” in that there’s basically no more going up for him. Meanwhile Yakko and the top two Duel Professors, who took way longer to get their dueling acts together have each demonstrably surpassed Gekko and still have some growth to spare.
DEFINETLY check out Vanguard. I really liked the game and the anime. Not to mention, if I remember correctly, the anime actually explains the rules really well and followed them throughout the series.
Cardfight Vanguard is definitely a series worth checking out for people who love TCGs in general. However, this is one of those franchises where I do recommend that you watch the original anime rather than reading the manga. While Akira Ito is a great artist, the original anime's storyline is phenomenally better than the manga's (fans of the series who watched the original series vs the reboot following the manga will tell you the same thing). All episodes of the Cardfight Vanguard anime is completely free to watch here on RUclips on the Cardfight Vanguard youtube channel.
Ah I remember following R right when GX was around the corner. It was nice seeing something with the original cast even though it's canonical status was ambiguous at best. I remember seeing edited anime screenshots people make which did make me want to see R in anime form back in the day hehe. Also as someone who plays Cardfight!! Vanguard, I did indeed notice Akira Ito's name and his artstyle whether it's in the manga or in the cards he personally designed himself. It's funny how Vanguard is seen as a "rival" of sorts to YGO when its origins were founded from its creator being Kazuki Takahashi's assistant.
One problem with the Viz translations is that the card effects aren't the same. Diffusion-Wave Motion originally allowed any spellcaster to use its effect. There is an even worse example involving Owner's Seal where the card could take back any card stolen by your opponent, but they kept they the viz translation where it said it could only steal monsters and it ruined this child's mind when I first read it.
@@DeathAlchemist yeah the translators keep trying to make duel monsters out to be the yugioh tcg when it very much isnt i regularly had to look up the cards' actual effects on yugipedia to understand what was really happening and even then there are a couple really confusing moments, like when they make out one of marik's monsters to have been flip-summoned from face-down defence position (they must have misinterpreted it, face-down defence position doesn't even exist in the manga) when i figured out that what was ACTUALLY happening was that he played a normal face-down card and summoned a monster separately, but the normal face-down cards were all displayed sideways in that duel (it's the 4-way duel before the battle city finals)
Every time you make a video on YuGiOh it reminds me how big it was to my childhood, and how good the franchise is as bringing together people together for good times. Something a lot of people have needed recently.
I've actually started going through the newest reboot of Cardfight Vanguard and it's actually pretty great. I'd consider it a more down to earth version of Yugioh. There are some supernatural elements, like how some cardfighters have a special ability called Psyqualia, and how the warriors of the cards represent real warriors on another world. But that's about it so far.
Personally, I don't like how they cut out a lot from the original anime, it sometimes seems rushed now and things aren't built up as much. It had a great plot and the card games were interesting, they would go on for more than one episode sometimes even. Some ppl now won't be able to see what is was before, with half of the stuff missing and it being mainly the games that are cut.
I for one would love to see a cardfight vanguard video, I had a small, yet enthusiastic phase of it about 8 years back and would love to hear your opinion on it!
Thank you for making this video! This is the only Yu-Gi-Oh manga series I have in full and I still enjoy it to this day. It’s great to know that more people will get to know this overlooked story thanks to you, JWittz.
I read that series in my city's public library, good times. The Jashin cards are pretty cool as well. Also Vanguard's great! I didn't go into it as much as Yu-Gi-Oh but it's a solid game itself.
That explains why Vanguard's art style had me hooked immediately. Huh, you learn something new every day. Also, Vanguard is pretty cool. A personal recommendation of mine in fact. :3
Fun fact. Wicked Avatar is indeed an anti Winged Dragon of Ra, cuz Ra drops your LP down to 100 or 1, and Wicked Avatar always has 100 or 1 more atk than the highest atk card on the field
The big reason I remember this manga is because it was kinda a progenitor to Cardfight Vanguard. I quickly learned that Vanguard would become my favorite game.
There could not be a more auspicious video recommended to me. I was literally just reading Yugioh R today and I was wondering what in the world it was.
I only knew of this manga as "That one spinoff that Gorz the Emissary of Darkness first appeared in". Anyone who played Yugioh from 2008 to 2012 know how much of an effect Gorz had on the competitive play style of players. I still to this day attack directly with my smallest monsters first. Fun fact: We even know the name of the Token he summons which is just referred to as "Emissary of Darkness Token" ,but her name is actually Kaien. I believe the name is Japanese in origin, so it's pronounced Kai-En.
Ehm the true reason is more that YuGiOh is made by Kazuki. He made the story and had the idea. The other guy just draw it for him. Please dont get me wrong but too many people think YGO R is not canon.
About time we had another one Josh, say, any chance of you discussing how the Banlist has worked over years and the controversial moves they've pulled?
Zexal and Arc V as well. Although Zexal starts identically to the anime, it veers off in it's own crazy direction. The Arc V manga is just nutty and I'm all about it.
I just want to say thank you so much for making this! Out of everything id love to seen talked about was yugioh R! I never have read it or looked into it so i thank you for this video! keep it up dude!!
I would love to see some videos of other forgotten franchises like vanguard and other card game/ figurine games which also have the series like chaotic, huntik, gormiti and monsuno.
I personally never got it either. gx and 5ds are both directly sequels to the original(even tho 5ds might as well not be because it does not even matter to the plot) and zexal and arcv are in weird bizarro-timelines in the same multiverse. Vrains is the first real spinoff and it parallels how generation6 of pokemon softrebooted the series.
Gen 6 is actually the start of a new timeline of sorts in the series that takes place in a world with mega evolution. It becomes much more obvious in ORAS and later USUM as they actually reference other timelines especially in the postgame storylines.
Yep. I personally call them sequels since they take place after each other. Calling them spin-offs implies that DM is meant to be the focus, rather than the new installment.
Didn't mention my favorite duelist in the manga, Tilla Mook, used Vampire's before Camula. Her strategy involved reviving her boss monster to the field when it is destroyed by paying life points, and being able to attack directly with a combo. Other than that, nice video, I've always liked R, read it all in one day when I was at the library once, and it's one of my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh manga especially because of the art.
8:37 - I forgot what Joey has in his hand at the time but he actually did have a viable winning combo lined up on the last turn. If he were written halfway competent, he could’ve pulled it off and won squarely. So that makes this whole thing both better and worse.
I had zero experience with yu-gi-oh until I watched your videos on the series. Over the last few months i've read the entire original series in the same omnibus releases you reference. Thanks for introducing me to this series. I saw R advertised in the back of those volumes and had no idea what to make of it. I'm often skeptical of manga spin-off with different artists and writers but now I may have to give this a try too lol
You should totally check Vanguard (the game itself) out when the new series (it's *second* reboot) releases, which it does in May. And also, Cardfight!! Vanguard (prior to the first reboot, which was in 2018) has _tons_ of lore
I like that your talking about this b/c I have know about it for years. I think its a very fun story. Not the best yugioh story but its definitely worth a read. I didn't know that Akira Ito went on to Cardfight Vanguard, good for him. Happy he found success

@@kahchunrock5582 Which is funny because gameplay wise Vanguard is drastically different from Yugioh. The anime does share some aspects with the Yugioh animes though, namely that there's some supernatural mystic power affecting the card game and that's why cards are used to save the world.
I so badly wish we’d gotten an anime adaptation of R. Yeah you’d have to finagle some things around, since Pegasus died in the manga and lived in the anime, but the main body of the story is so fascinating. Plus those DUELS.
It'd be very easy to fix up that detail: Make it that Yako is trying to get Pegasus to come out of hiding/tries to revive Cecilia instead of him (which would make it less creepy that he intends to use Tea's body). Maybe have Pegasus show up at the end for the big, happy ending to top it off.
Understandable so, imagine yourself in his shoes. You are there chilling inside your blue eyes jet, preparing an speech about sending cards into space when a notification pop up warning your company is being hack on the other side of the world.
I Actually own all 5 Yu-Gi-Oh R. In fact when i got rid of my Manga to make some space Yu-Gi-Oh R was the only one i did not get rid of and I love reading though it now and then. And yes The Joey Vs Keith battle is REALLY good
Vanguard just this week had a big 10th year anniversary stream where they announced a full sequel of the game with new themes and new mechanics and new formats. It launches in May, that'd be the ideal time for newcomers because you wouldn't need any of the 10 prior years to get into it.
I had heard of the Wicked God Cards but never realised they were in an anime or manga, it’s cool to know there’s a story with them Also YES YES YES PLEASE DO VANGUARD
Yo, a Yugioh Manga video! You should talk about the mangas for the other shows like GX and 5Ds, because they are VERY different from the shows they are based off of.
@@calebgoodman2076 The Yugioh animes from GX onwards came out first. The mangas for each show came out afterwards, and have completely different plots. I think.
The reason why nobody talks about R is because it’s non canon, never animated, and nobody ever talks about the Yugioh mangas. Literally every Yugioh manga features substantial difference to the plot of every series.
So if you ever check out Vanguard it's actually a really cool series as far as anime card games go. Unlike Yu-Gi-Oh it does a really good job at making fights in the anime actually reflect real strategies found in the game. The show also has a much more slice of life feel to it which is refreshing to see, while their is some magic other world that the cards live on shenanigans that occur it's not super dominant and a lot of the story is about going to tournaments and playing the game. (Side note I'm talking about the original series and that's it from the original tournament against the shadow paladins the weird ocean guy and the link joker arc, everything made after that I have no clue what is going on)

@@lisapainfulthe7438he didn't say any of this in the video
It's so weird how Yami Yugi is known as just "Yugi," while regular Yugi is called "little Yugi."
Even the entire og DM-era overaching narritive thinks so
I guess calling him 'Yugi of Darkness' or 'Dark Yugi' stopped being fitting, after he stopped being the powers of darkness, amplifying the confidence of Yugi, allowing him to use Black Magic to punish people who would abuse him, his friends or the innocent.
You must be talking about the English dub (and that fanbase).

I always call him Atem since that's his actual name.
Oh yeahhhh, I remember reading Yugioh R as a kid and buying the volumes as they came out at Borders. Lots of memories coming back
Just hearing the word "Borders" refer to a store sent me back to another era
@@TheJWittz Chill out, what ya yellin' for? Lay back, it's all been done before. And if you could only let it be, you will see that I am the funniest RUclipsr of all time. Admit it, my dear follower j
Add my nostalgia for Borders to the list.
Yo me too wtf
I found all the volumes of Yu-Gi-Oh! R at the library last year and read through them all. I really enjoyed the story.
That's where I found my copies in 2009
I'd love to see a Cardfight!! Vanguard vid. That's the one card game story that really pays attention to game shops and locals culture.
Given that Vanguard was made by one of the yugioh writers it's not too surprising that the anime takes several notes from it.
Yami Yugi: *Chuckles nervously, because that's how he beat Strings.*
Ahh yes, Team 5Ds vs Team Unicorn. Hands down my favorite Duel in 5Ds.
And this is where Team Unicorn should have responded with
"Heheheheheh. Nothing you say or do can negate that fact! I end my turn! Which means, Yusei, you and Team 5D's lose this duel!"
@@cameraredeye3115it would work but Jean accepted Yusei's challenge because he didn't like to win with this strategy, that's why he attacked Yusei, in order to win in his own terms, i know it was his strategy to mill Yusei's deck, but it was the strategy to win as a team and i know it was a bad way to finish the duel, but he never thought about himself since he had a team, he decided to attack Yusei because Yusei made him realise that he also needed to think about him and his pride as a duelist, it's just sad that he lost because when he finally could fight for himself and not just for the team

XD
Big fan of you
12:44 Was wondering if you were going to bring it up, glad you did.
I Love CardFight vanguard. The manga is pretty ok and has some pretty weird stuff. But the original anime first 3 seasons are really strong
The 2018 anime is based on the manga
Prediction: Yu-Gi-Oh Royal, it adds a couple new characters and their own story arcs, plus another semester after Christmas. May or may not include grappling hook.
Ok that right there was hilarious, and now I want to see Yugi with a Grappling Hook
@@BrenTenkage It could happen. We've had Yugi on horseback so this doesn't seem far off
But are all the villains rotten adults with the exception of the new one? Gotta ask the real questions here mate
I always have to remind people that R exists even in Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom spaces lol... hope this brings more awareness to a pretty cool bit often forgotten piece of Yu-Gi-Oh! history!
Is it good? I only read the original and the Arc V manga, do you recommend it?
@@browniethesnivy I just only read the manga, but I'll check it out because the art looks amazing.
Funny, considering some of Tenma's cards recently got printed.

I've read through R SO MANY times, I freaking love it! I still hold out hope that we'll get an OVA or something for it eventually.
6:27 the original "use counter against counter"
Oh please cover Vanguard. One of the game's main mechanics is literally top decking cards and I love it.
I second this!
They have an entire deck based on top decking *cough* Oracle Think Tank *cough*
I'm super curious to learn about Vanguard, so I'd love to see someone tackle an introduction vid to the franchise.
What's top decking?
Not gonna talk about the One Shot Chapter also included in the Yu-Gi-Oh! R Manga that takes place at Grampa's Shop?
The Yu-Gi-Oh manga rarely follows the actual logic of the Trading Card Game.
@Some MorTal I know and I think putting the card text from the game on cards that act differently in the manga is misleading.
Now I REALLY want a "Yu-Gi-Oh! R" anime series. I miss the original Yu-Gi-Oh! characters and anime...
Tell Viz Media to reprint Volume 5
The Joey Vs. Bandit Keith fight was the best part of R. Would have gone hard if it was animated.
I also like that the psyqualia hasn't changed much and how the cards are other beings. I guess I'm just a big fan of the original

I read that series in my city's public library, good times. The Jashin cards are pretty cool as well.
Also Vanguard's great! I didn't go into it as much as Yu-Gi-Oh but it's a solid game itself.
Also Cardfight Vangaurd is amazing, I used to go to tournaments for it
That explains why Vanguard's art style had me hooked immediately. Huh, you learn something new every day.
Also, Vanguard is pretty cool. A personal recommendation of mine in fact. :3
So that's why Akira Ito's name and artstyle is so familiar. He's the author of Vanguard.

The big reason I remember this manga is because it was kinda a progenitor to Cardfight Vanguard.
I quickly learned that Vanguard would become my favorite game.

Ito took notes from Yugioh for Vanguard but the game itself is drastically different.
Fun Fact: Volume 5 is out of print
Yu-Gi-Oh R can't be that forgotten seeing as Konami is now making cards that were featured in those very pages. lol. Most excellent video!
Ehm the true reason is more that YuGiOh is made by Kazuki. He made the story and had the idea. The other guy just draw it for him.
Please dont get me wrong but too many people think YGO R is not canon.

I dunno if you can call all the series "spinoffs" they're more like new generations.
You wouldn't call pokemon diamond a spinoff of red
Generations are in that weird point of the Venn Diagram between Spin-offs & sequels
Now that you mention it, yeah. Furthermore, the final fights of the protagonists of both second generations were against the protagonists of the first
I personally never got it either. gx and 5ds are both directly sequels to the original(even tho 5ds might as well not be because it does not even matter to the plot) and zexal and arcv are in weird bizarro-timelines in the same multiverse.
So that makes this whole thing both better and worse.
oooh yes i'd love to hear your thoughts on CFV :D i played it a little and it was pretty interesting!

Cardfight Vanguard is pretty standard fare for toyetic anime, but a bunch of the early theme songs are by JAM Project and they are awesome.

I find it funny how every single Yugioh thing after the original is considered a spin-off. Not every single Pokémon generation after the first one is a spin-off.
Don’t get me started with the letters.
My favorite anime’s seasons:
Senki Zesshou Symphogear (SZS
SZS G
SZS GX
SZS AXZ
SZS XV
It's nice to find a fellow symphogear fan
@@reydenx9183 Same to you!
I happened to catch a couple episodes of some cardfight vanguard show on tv and I described it as "nonsense Yu-Gi-Oh", but by the second episode, I was kinda into it
Yugioh R, I’m R-eady for this!!! ^^
I have all of R. It's so good. Happy to see it get the attention it deserves
I literally have yu-gi-oh R sitting on my shelf and I'm still not really sure what it was about. Evil god cards are cool though.
Honestly it would be funny to see an alternate version of the dead end boss fight where she just goes off on him and tells him that a defensive strategy isn't anywhere near as boring as waiting around in the hallway all day.
Also I love that Kaiba just beats the guy up with his briefcase
As the masive Atem fangirl that i am
That "Daddy's home" made me laugh so hard i snorted then my friend said "dose that make blue eyes Daddy's belt" XD
Very glad to see u come back JWittz , hope you had a great Thanksgiving and everything , we miss your videos man :)
