Imagine, the summer heat in a calm wind, brushing against your face as you drive down the countryside with your friends. This song comes on and you just enjoy your ride, life and the relief you feel as there is not a single problem on that ride.
Each chord change in the progression has its own resolution note (the bass note is distanced at least an octave from the melodic note). If I had to put it into words, I think about the scale of mountains or valleys, the melody makes me think of the height of adventure and the resolving bass notes make me think that home isn't just one place, its where you are and the people you're with, no matter how close or far you are from your actual home; home is where the heart is Idk why i felt like becoming a RUclips philosopher slash music theorist lmao who knows i could be wrong and just talking out my ass but these are the emotions i feel

This was uploaded a day after David Bowie's life ended all too soon and all too abruptly. I think ending the song in the same manner was a beautiful touch by Mr. Goetze .
I've had a lap steel in my closet for going on 10 years now, since my grandparents died. I've been playing guitar and bass for 16 years and this makes me want to play it more than ever.
For all those out there loving this song but aren't familiar with it - check out the original by David Bowie and also the covers by Motorhead and the Wallflowers. I'm sure there are lots of others out there in RUclips land that I haven't yet heard/seen, but those three are quite good. Enjoy.... :)
This cover makes me think of an old country farmer whose son wants to be a musician. The son takes his dad's warnings as being disdainful of the career, since he believes his old man wants him to go into the family business (running the farm). However, the farmer reveals that when he was the son's age, he was the same way; that he wanted to get into the music industry, but it left him tired and with nothing to his name, and that his warnings were him trying to make sure he was SURE that that's what he wanted, since it could go worse for him. At the end, the son returns home to show his success to his father, now a senile old man who barely recognizes his son. However, he jogs his memory through playing this song - the first song that he (farmer) taught him.
This is absolutely 💯 bad a** to the bone. I truly loved this. Thank you so much and God bless you a million times for posting this great music and especially on a lapsteel slide guitar.
I never thought of this tune as a country song but damn if someone in Nashville doesn't jump on it and cover it with steel guitar and fiddles, they're missing the boat. That right there was sweet!
I used to play this song on Guitar legends..i think on a mobile phone, when I was about 6-8 years old Thought I was crazy cause I'm not seeing anyone mentioning the game even after I searched it nor the songs
Magic!!! Just love you're style of playing. My all time favourite of your's is...Harvest Moon. Gives me goosebumps everytime l hear it, as do most of the music you play. You are an absolute fantastic musician and play that instrument beautifully. Well done!!!!!
Me enamora las stell guitars. Ojala algún día dios me dé la virtud de poder interpretar. Una pieza tan preciada. Felicitaciones a los que lo han hecho. Los amo mucho. Que Dios los bendiga
Every time i come back to this video and listen to this great song it overcomes me. So many memories. Such great loss. But great sound and playing. Love it.
Lovely job 👏👍, been messing with this song recently,I can get the screaming whaling sound using the delay reverb setting's on my zoom pedal and a bottle slide, sounds very close, I don't think I've ever heard anyone replicate the sound on the record playing live, with Bowie,he always intentionally puts a different spin on it, stunning song, I didn't know what it was about for decades 😂
You continue to inspire Luke! I am one of the number who have determined to take up this instrument because of you. I have started saving up my gig money. I have six gigs lined up between now and the end of January and that should give me enough. And a little birdie told me I’m getting my volume pedal for Christmas!
You know someone has nailed an instrumental take on a legendary song when your mind's ear hears the lyrics anyway, and the playing manages to embody the human voice without any electronic funny business. This is fantastic, but too brief.
This is remarkable Luke. Other than Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny, this is the most beautiful tune I have ever heard on a lap steel. Wonderful Luke. Please upload lots more of your performances here for us on your channel.
Sounds great! I saw this one facebook. I sent you a message. do you do remote recording? I am recording a CD of americana/roots music with some great players. Best, Paul
If you're wondering where that guitar in the background is coming from, he's actually playing it with his feet.
Silly me thinking he played it with his mouth
@@Blizzerd84 Actually, his mouth is only part of the equation. He's using his tongue to do the chords.
Come now ed boy!
Very sweet indeed.

That’s a funky looking neck pickup on that thing too.
