Yes, newbie error, but saying that, I don’t like Vegemite on toast, I have mine on fresh bread with cheese and lots of butter. So salivating with the fruit tingles, pods, party mix, then nooooo the black cat. (They do make another mix without the black cats.) We eat the eucalyptus lollies to clear the nasal passages when we have a cold.

Man never thought people would need instructions on how to use Vegemite you need to spread your toast with butter/margarine...😅 When I was younger my mum used to give us Vegemite broth for a meal were you dunk the bread in the heated up Vegemite with water. Yummy stuff!!

My sister had pneumonia when she was a baby and when she came out of hospital my grandma fed her Vegemite broth for a number of weeks. My mum maintains that's what helped with my sister's recovery. 😊

Minties are to be consumed whole. As they warm in your mouth they soften, as I'm sure you've worked out by now. A lot of those items we have in New Zealand also.
The reason vegemite tasted horrible is 1) no butter so it would have been way harsher than normal, 2) too much on the toast and 3) not eveybody likes it. I'm a NZ Marmite fan instead. But the rule with both for Americans is, put the least amount you think you want on the tip of a knife, then put 2/3 back.

Only a few with very adventurous or maybe no taste buds will ever get to enjoy a full spread of Vegemite that is more than a millimetre thick. Another way to enjoy Vegemite is to add cheese slices to the toast and then grill it for a bit. Generally a hard, rather mild cheese like a chedder is best but personal tastes may differ. Some say that the Vegemite should be spread on the toast first then the cheese added, whike others prefer the Vegemite is spread on top of the cheese slices before grilling. Some prefer a light grill with the cheese little more than warm with the edges a little soft, while others prefer a full cheese melt or even bubbling with the heat, or somewhere in-between.
The grill I am referring to is basically just using the top heating element of a stove grill or toaster oven.
If you really won’t try it again you can always use the Vegemite for a salty gravy, just add water and corn flour to thicken

But you should also check out the video "AMERICAN GUY INHALES 2 VEGEMITE JARS IN 3 MIN" by LA Beast ... I don't know any Aussies who can do that, that guy really is a beast. Pronounced (MY - LOW). You need to be sent a tin of the powder form it originally comes in. Two heaped teaspoons to one of instant or ground coffee and milk (not crema) and you will officially have the best homemade mocha you have ever tasted.

With Fruit Tingles, you need to suck them not crunch them; although, I must admit they were fizzier when I was young(that's over 60 yrs ago)

With the Vegemite, you need hot toast with lots of butter, then a thin spread. Without the butter ratio it's too salty. The creaminess if the butter balances out the Vegemite. Trust us. Every American I've seen that's tried it properly either loves it or thinks it's not that bad.
It's also nice with melted/grilled cheese on top. Or on a cheese and Vegemite sandwich with butter. And also with smashed avocado or pop a poached egg on top of the buttery Vegemite toast. The creaminess of the yolk goes well with the Vegemite. Basically creamy things balance the salty umami profile.
You only EVER have Vegemite on dry toast if you're pregnant with morning sickness.
I once had food poisoning (that I probably should have gone to hospital over, but you know, we learn). After about a week of not being able to eat anything I suddenly started craving Vegemite on toast with tuna mixed with mayonnaise… with Vegemite spread both sides THICK, not butter. It was probably THE most disgusting thing I had ever eaten, but I am sure it scared the bugs away coz I was fine after that.

TLDR: Vegemite is NOT nutella, you used about 4x too much... plus as others have said, hot toast, buttered, then very thinly distributed.

I'm surprised any American could like Aussie sweets (no offence intended, just what you'd be conditioned to). Usually our level of sweetness (or "chemical" sourness) is WAY lower than comparable American products.
