  • PCGS Unboxing #1 - My FIRST Multi-coin Submission!!! What Grades Did We Get?!?!
    It's PCGS unboxing time! In this video, we open and check out the grades on my first EVER multi-coin submission containing a mixture of finds from coin roll hunting as well as purchases from the US Mint. While I am familiar with the submission process I do not know much about how coins are graded at the major certification businesses. Places like PCGS, NGC, and others offer this service as a way to get a qualified and professional value on condition and grade. I have some idea where they will end up on the scale of 1-70 but I rely on them to make the final call.
    As with many grade reveals I have seen on RUclips, most of the time you get a few that grade higher than you though, a few that grade at the level you though, and a few that get disappointing grades. At the end of the day you have to take the good with the bad and ugly. This is PCGS's OPINION and you are paying for that and their reputation. I believe them to be the most consistent and fairest of the coin grading companies and it is who I use for all of my submissions.
    Please leave a comment below and tell me what you think of the grades I received and if you agree with them or not!

      I agree, not sure how to reach out to them about it. I don’t want to contest the damage, just give it the wide AM designation.

      @@EnigmaCoinCollector agreed. It should get the designation. The wide A M is clear to see. Not being gradable is understandable based on the environmental damage. It would be interesting to know if the do not give designation on all damaged coins or was it truly an over site.

      Thanks for watching, you just have seen me post this right away lol. It was very exciting being my first multi coin submission plus they were coins I found hunting. I knew in the back of my mind the most PCGS submissions end up having some surprises and some letdowns, and you definitely saw that in this video. I am definitely happy overall and will keep doing this in the future when I have enough to submit, probably won’t be a monthly thing though. Looks like I’m getting my 2021 Morgan and peace dollars back this week so back to back PCGS videos on this channel!

    I called it on that T2 reverse proof. I said 69 when I saw the mint mark not quite perfect. I think the shield on the T1 cost you a point, too. Bummer. I don't know why I can't be as accurate on my own coins!

    Was always curious what a 74D DDO half in that condition would grade. Very nice. 64 and 65 red very cool grades. That's awesome. The two GNG that's tough. I believe the 99 is a wide AM for sure. Your explanation about it makes sense, but disappointing not to get the designation on the 99. 70s very cool. Where did those specks come from? Those reverse proofs look awesome. Sad to see they only got 69. You did an awesome job on this video. Can't wait to see the next one.

    • @EnigmaCoinCollector

      Thanks so much for watching. Not sure where the specks came from, maybe they got dusty waiting to be graded. Hard to tell. I’m happy with all the grades but wishes the 99 got the designation with damage. Oh well, maybe next time.

    It's hard to tell, sometimes, just what PCGS is thinking as far as grades go. I've got a pair of "MS70"' 22 ASEs, here; one has a naked-eye visible scratch (~0.5mm long) in the field to the right of Lady Liberty and really should've been a 69. That said, with the (reverse) proof ASEs, sometimes all it takes is a pinhole somewhere in the frost for them to knock the coin down a grade. I've got three of the RP sets currently in for grading. I'm fairly certain that at least one set will be a 69 (pinholes), though I *am* hopeful that I'll get at least one perfect set out of the submission.

    • @EnigmaCoinCollector
      @EnigmaCoinCollector  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for the info on the 69 vs 70 when it comes to the reverse proofs. I will have to take a closer look at mine and see if I can find any pinholes. Good luck on your submissions!

    • @christophersherman5587
      @christophersherman5587 2 года назад +1

      @@EnigmaCoinCollector It's been my experience in general with proof ASEs, especially in the past year, that if I get a 69 vs a 70 it's usually due to frost pinholes (they stand out like a sore thumb under a bright light, w/o even *needing* the 5x magnification that PCGS calls for). It just seems worse on RP coins since there's so much frost there...and the QA issues that the Mint has had in the last year certainly don't help, either.

  • @patrickjohnson5412
    @patrickjohnson5412 2 года назад +3

    With PCGS there isn't a tru difference between a 69 and a 70. There are plenty of perfect 69s and plenty of undeserving 70s.

    Great information for me because I am definitely not a grader.I have been buying graded coins so I can compare and learn. I wonder if the person grading the coins gets a second opinion or checks with the supervisor. Especially for the higher grades. Since I am a complete amateur, I was wondering.

    • @EnigmaCoinCollector
      @EnigmaCoinCollector  2 года назад

      I believe three different people breathe the coins and they take the average between them. Not 100% sure in the process but it’s not just one person giving their one opinion. There are definitely multiple people involved in the process.

    The 2021 W has plastic particles from the case, those spots are particles from where they put the coin in and it rubbed into the plastic creating plastic dust that is now on the coin. I don't know what PCGS policy is, but it is their fault and they should replace the case and reimburse you in if they damaged your coin, this is obviously their fault, it is a no brainer.

    For purposes of preserving your coins that you plan on keeping…. Send them to ICG. Great service and great grading. I know the so called resale in that holder might be a little lower but not important for your collection. You can get modern coins for $12 and. With errors or attributions plus $7…. ANACS is also a great choice for that. They are better at error coins. You can always cross them over if you want in the future for selling… Also, grading is subjective and the two big grading companies NGC and PCGS have too much control on the market. They are probably trying to control the population.
