  • Getting things done around here while waiting for the very brief Alaskan springtime arrival. It's actually already here, the snow has melted quickly over the last week and my guess is it will all be melted by around June 1st. I couldn't get everything accomplished but knocked a few big tasks off the long list. Next time home I'll get the 24 volt wind turbine up and my computer and reloading bench/desk completed. Maybe even get the doors and drawers built for the kitchen?

I was born in Wasilla in 1954, Alaska wasn't even a state. My (Native
American) father helped the Alcan. I grew up hunting and trapping. I had
my daughter watch this with me, she's age 9. In this digital, iPhone,
internet world she just can't believe people live like this. We lost it
all in the earthquake of 64, moved to the lower 48 and began anew.
    Thanks for the memories

I only ask these questions for my own personal benefit because I love when you are in the mountain bringing us these wonderful videos 😂❤️

Hello Ed! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I've been binge watching all your videos. I'M MEZMERIZED BY THEM!!! The drone shots are spectacular, the music evocative and chillingly remote, and watching you go about your life in such a challenging and dramatic environment is incredibly interesting.. You are so organized, orderly and efficient in all you do, it's truly satisfying to see you accomplish all your tasks. I'm hooked and can't wait to see what's next for the warmer months. So very thankful for you sharing your life with us. A big hello from beautiful North Carolina!

    Great video!
I grew up on a farm and my Dad used electric fencing. When he got older, he had to have a combo pace maker/defibrillator for his heart. His doctor was somehow monitoring his heart rhythms remotely. One day he got a call from the doctors office. They were calling to inform my Dad that there was an "event" that day with his heart. It showed up on their monitors at the office. Dad insisted he was fine but they persisted that something happened earlier that day and they were able to give him the exact time of the "event" Then Dad remembered he got zapped by the electric fence around that time. Dad thought it was funny but they were not amused and told him to stay away from the electric fence...lol. Sorry to ramble but your section on electric fencing reminded me of this memory.
Hope you have a great week, you will probably be heading back to the office soon... 😞

Ed as much shoveling you do I would think you need one or two snow shovels per year! They get beat up! No tunnel to the outhouse! Woohoo! Your trails are definitely getting rougher. Loved seeing all the jars across the deck! Reliance water jugs! 👍 How many times have you lost the shovel on the way back and didn’t notice 😁 So one more wind turbine and your power is complete?

    • @MountainMariner
      @MountainMariner  2 года назад +1

24volt Wind Turbine install and the system will be complete. Except I’m still kicking around the idea of 4 more lithium 24 volt batteries for the main cabin system. That will give me about a week of autonomy on that system. The trail is super punchy today and if I tried to go down it I’d have some issues for certain. Lost shovel? Never!

I watched this video and had a good laugh at all your jars lined up, just thinking of how long that took. I love feeding the birds and had to keep the feeders away from the bears. I used a clothes line from tree to trees and with the pulley could bring the feeders in to fill from up on the porch and then pull them back out. Maybe some thing like that or something like a mast pole on a boat. I am just throwing out ideas. Love watching you and the solitude you have.

My wife has been pickling carrots today for the first time so when I saw the 24 ft of sealed quart jars I had to show it to her. She loved it. We both really like your choice of measurement. Neither of us had heard of measuring jars in feet...lol. I guess that makes another first for today. My wife tells me this is her second first for the day. Either way, great job vacuum sealing the food up. Thanks for sharing all 24 foot of it.

After watching your videos and the work you go thru to fill your water jugs, you may want to look at another option. These are fairly new to the market, but they may be just what you are looking for. Reed Pump Stick, Milwaukee and Ryobi are the three that make these, with Reed looking to be the best. Reed takes batteries from your cordless tools with provided adapter blocks, making it a great choice. No bending over to fill your water jugs. And high GPM pumping. Take a look at it on RUclips and see what you think. Larry McKee

    • @MountainMariner

Yes that Reed Pump is pretty cool. I’ve thought about it getting one but keeping things simple is how I try to do everything. I wonder how it would do on very cold days.

@@MountainMariner I live in Michigan on a lake and do a lot of ice fishing. I use a dewalt 20v drill with a 5 in laser auger and can make 45 holes in 20 in of ice with 1 battery. cold does not seem to be a problem and that pump self drains after use. You could fill all your jugs in the sled with almost no bending over. I'm in my later 60's I'm always looking for easy.

Good to see evrything without the snow, lol. Alders can be a pain in the a** no matter where you are, I keep cutting mine every year. Most of the snow around my cabin is gone except in the back area, still about 2'-3'. In all my years, I have never used electric wire, it kinda makes me feel like a prisoner. If bears came around, I would use a bean bag shell with a marker to let me know if it's the same bear. I've never had a bear get in my cabin. Thanks for the longer video, really enjoyed it.
