I have researched allot about this calendar year.
The Reason is, While Messi Had a fantastic Season individually speaking, He was only Fantastic in La Liga. Whilst in Ucl, despite being the top goal scorer in Ucl, His only memorable performance was against Arsenal I think. Even in this match the man of the match was Xavi and not Messi. the rest of his goals were basically against small teams like Leverkusen. And in other big games like against Bayern and Inter in knockout rounds, he had many shots on targets, yet not scoring any goals against them. Almost ghosting in these matches. So in general, his Ucl performance was descent but overrated.
And in World Cup,even though he is the 3rd player who created most chances, He had 23 shots on target yet did not score any goal, Just one assist. This performance is a poor one, especially for the caliber of player like Messi. He had a humiliating run, loosing to Germany 4-0.

Messi played a Major role for Barca to win La liga and Spanish Super Cup. He won;

Plus he just like Modric and Mbappe, carried Holland to World cup Finals. He had 13 goals and 19 assists in 40+ games he played (Due to an injury he had, he didnt play in that many games just like Iniesta) He was also from the top 5 people who created most chances in that year. He had G/A in many of the big games of WC and Ucl.

In 2010 world cup messie was useless, I think he had 1 assist and no goals and his team was hammered by Germany 4-0. Iniesta on the other hand had 2 goals and 3 assists in the tournament and was pivitol in that midfield along side xavi and they went on to win the cup.
