    You're a very knowledgeable jeweler, your commentary really helps people build skills and I think anyone wanting to work a new metal like platinum should watch these first!

    Well, I can’t eat popcorn because of my colon issue. And it sucks because I can’t drink beer anymore either. Beer just isn’t as fun as it used to be when I was younger.. but I will definitely screen my phone to my TV so I can watch you on my big screen TV and take notes… I love all your videos. I wish more people would start following you and and everybody that watches you needs to like your videos. They’re very educational. Now I have an account with Reddit. and I might bring you up as a good RUclips channel to watch. They were talking about Eona. And I gave a review on her. OK, I don’t know if I can watch an hour video right now, but I’m gonna watch some of it. Hugs 🤗, Michelle

      Sorry to hear that. Anything that'll keep you go then.
      I've never been on reddit to be honest. I wouldn't know where to start. The channel has grown pretty quick, considering I only properly started at the beginning of the year. It'll get there at some stage. I'm sure people will naturally find me in good time.
      Part 2 with the setting will be on Friday. Thanks again. Take care 😊

      @@metalofhonour oh that’s great about part 2. Now you do know that I’m a professional Metalsmith????? But I have never worked with platinum…. Or titanium. I would love to work with titanium.

      @aumi.jewels yeah. So many people have just not been shown before. It's not that scary at all. And it's the best to work with. I will at some stage do a basic tutorial and maybe really close up.
      I did use titanium about 20 odd years ago, but haven't rushed to use it again. It just ruins your tools.

      Morning Phil. I haven't used that one. I used to use the old pearl cement before it got banned and ceased bing sold.

    I was a car mechanic for 30 years, now retired due to injuries. I've had arc-eye a few times from MIG welding, it's bloody horrible. Making jewellery is a hobby for me, so I don't see a pulse welder in my future, unless I build one. I've only played about with silver and CZ's so far, apart from soldering a broken link on a 9ct gold figaro chain for my Mrs. Working with platinum and diamonds seems like a joy, compared to silver and softer stones, although I suppose it's swings and roundabouts.
    Thanks for another great vid, really enjoyed it. Take care and enjoy the rest of your week.

      Thank you.
      Silver a nd platinum softness to work with and setting is very similar in a weird way, but changing to diamonds is just easier because you can't scratch them with normal stones, so less to worry about.
      Have a great week too. 👍🏼

    Where the side branches join the main stem there is still a visible line between the pieces - if you wanted the whole thing to look flush, would you have to 'Flood' the joint with platinum? Phil

    • @metalofhonour
      @metalofhonour  3 месяца назад +1

      I would never flood anything with solder. You only drag it out in the polishing stage. I wanted this flush, I would have either made it closer in fit, or I would have welded in with a sheet of platinum as I would a ring of platinum. This piece has been made to match previously made earrings.

    • @metalofhonour
      @metalofhonour  3 месяца назад

      @PhilStevensphilongold for sure. So basically if you want it to be super flush in silver or gold, the best option is to just have a super tight fit top to bottom at the beginning. Have a great day.

    Why not try a head camera or overhead one recording at the same time so we can see top down? I've seen a few jewelers use this.

    • @metalofhonour
      @metalofhonour  2 месяца назад

      I personally haven't seen it. But problem is, studio lights are above, so any camera pointing downwards from the head reflects the light directly so you can't actually see the piece. And from the head would only be a gopro which has warping affects on the edges.
      And I can't have a camera directly above on all jobs because the microscope can be in the way in parts, or when soldering, the heat and soot from the propane will ruin the lense. I don't use a phone to record. It's a mirror less dslr. Also any camera mounted above, would be attached to the bench and any hand movement makes the camera rock like it's in an earthquake.
      Interestingly though, I'm moving workshop in about 10 weeks, so a fresh setup is going to give me more angle options, so that will be interesting.
      Some of the overhead shots you see, may actually be from a built in camera to their micro scope. Anyone that wants to donate 3k for a good quality Meiji scope, I'll happily do that 😂. But new workshop will give ne extra options. Thanks again for commenting.

    Do you need/want an apprentice? 😊 I can cook (thus the "chef" moniker)! 😅

    • @metalofhonour
      @metalofhonour  3 месяца назад +1

      I've tried that before. In two weeks, I put myself behind by 4 weeks behind. It was crazy. If I do get to the point I need more staff, I do have a couple of people I would poach that I taught before.
      It's quite hard to get an apprenticeship in these times.
