I have tried the first knot. I do need a knot like this for hauling lumber. But it jams and locks before I can cinch it tight. It makes a nice hitch but for lumber, this needs to be drawn tight because the load is subject to vibration and jostling during the drive. Perhaps I am missing some trick in the way it's drawn up?
The Lapp loop! My favorite.
Very Great ideas. Thanks

To retighten, you need to be holding both ends _and_ the drawloop. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lapp_knot#Lapp_knot_as_(adjustable)_binding_knot .
Like grip hitch with a blocker overhand knot .
