"Although we have no obligation to stay alive On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive".It may be because I'm stoned right now but sometimes just those words give my life enough meaning to keep on going.
I've been looking for this song for about 2 years, i tried writing the lyrics but had no result, after a long wait i heard it again and use an app for searching music, and here i am, Glad i Finally found it. : )
Not everyone has the same taste in music. Taste in music is like opinions. They differ from person to person, and most people don't have an open enough mind to broaden their horizons and explore what else is out there. And that's fine, those who don't want to find new music just because they don't like the genre can continue listening to whatever it is they listen to, be it punk, rap, metal, indie, pop, etc. Some people dislike them because they have abandoned the DIY punk mentality where you are supposed to barely make enough money to scrape by and not get huge or you're a sellout and therefore 86'd from the punk scene, also. I can in some ways understand that. The media is a pile of trash that's feeding young kids lies about how you won't be somebody unless you party every night, do a ton of drugs, get blackout drunk and have a ton of promiscuous sex. Playing into their games, while sometimes necessary to put food on the table for your band's growing families, can be considered a dick move that shuns the community you were once an active part of. It's really looked down on. Sure, they have a positive message in their music, but they're still helping fund those who run MTV, VH1, various radio stations, the music industry in general, etc. etc. etc., since they get money for showing music videos/playing the band's music on the air, mass-distributing their music, etc. That being said I enjoy their music still, old or new. I was just explaining what some people think to answer your question.
inamoratasamazing They haven't abandoned the DIY ethics of punk. At least I don't see it that way. They have just evolved. But they started out like from a classic punk rock and DIY mentality and practice. That's part of how they got where they are. But if your a band like them and in their position and you have the opportunity to reach more people, and yes make more money (which omg doesn't make you fucking evil or a sell out that is a stupid immature attitude and just fucking trite); than why wouldn't you take your message, your art, your lives/career, to the next level. By having that elitist hipster us vs. them mentality of purism and superiority you alienate and exclude the rest of the music listening world by staying in your little underground niche where its comfortable, risk free, un-challenging and allow you to maintain that smug attitude of "oh well were so much better because we have nothing to do with the mainstream". It's just foolish, bands like that while appearing to maybe have strong convictions or a code just serve themselves really under the illusion of staying true and pure to the "underground". Its really just about ego and superiority i think. What's the point of music like that that's supposed to be made to have some kind of message that's about changing society and having an impact, if all you ever play to and expose yourself to is people already into the "scene" or movement? Fans of that kind of music who already have those values and understand the messages are the only ones who will hear it. I believe they firmly have their heart in activism and their message. And they avoid sounding to preachy because they are also artists that write good music and they don't have that snobby elite punk rock attitude. Their music does reach a lot more people. Now I don't know if for a punk band they are as popular or successful as say Green Day, but those dudes aren't really very political or into activism and their music is boring by now, and they (Rise Against) do have a lot more success than other less mainstream bands but because of that and the money they make they are able to fund more projects that actually have a social and political impact i think. And it's not like they live like rich rock stars or have those kinds of personalities. I don't think they are playing into those games like you said about the music industry and all its propaganda aimed at youth to just not give a fuck about anything but just partying. That is the mainstreams idea of rebellion and its fucking stupid, and you don't have to be on a major label to promote and perpetuate that propaganda. There are unfortunately a bunch of so called punk bands that do exactly that but aren't on major labels or part of the mainstream. I think by being on a major label and having a bigger audience they subvert the mainstream and its fake ideas of rebellion and its conformity. That's also a huge problem in the punk scene itself, lots of punks have the attitude that if you don't look or sound a certain way that your not punk, and that's bullshit, they are the ones ruining and killing punk. Which is what they accuse bands like Rise Against of doing, when they are actually the ones keeping it alive by allowing it to evolve, reach more people, and grow to be more than just adolescent rebellion, or teenage angst, or just a crazy "party on bro!" band that's either all about the hardcore image or self-righteous preachy elitist (ineffectual). I also think they strike a pretty good balance between political and personal and emotional lyrics. So even though they aren't my favorite punk band or anything, I still love their music, and I think they are important and relevant and actually making a difference so I got a lot of respect for Rise Against. If some people don't like them I don't give a fuck, everybody has their own taste and opinion.
"answers inches from our face" ive always loved that line ever since I was a child; the imagery of fixing the world and healing people resonates in my brain after I hear it. rise against is a really powerful band with a really amazing message. I always thought it was “the hurt we feel we all have earned” not found. My interpretation was that we earn our pain and scars.. we have suffered and earned the right to feel hurt. Found is a great lyric too. This is one of my favorite songs.. so glad I rediscovered these guys after some years.
the thing i love about this band is how down to earth they are, they have so much fun that all these big mainstream bands dont, they actually look like they enjoy beig a band :D RISE AGAINST
I actually feel sorry for Tim how he got bullied due to his Heterochromia. I have it but am lucky because its partial meaning I have brown in the centre of my retinas and green on the outside and as soon as people found that out I was teased. For Tim it must have been so much worse. He's such a brave guy and a massive inspiration to all.

You start to realise how old this song is when there's footage of the warped tour with actual fucking punk bands playing it.
i thought it looked old because the lead singer has hair in this video
why has the warped tour turned in to shit because there are not any punk banks just punk-pop or shitty rock bands why?

Lyrics:
Chairs thrown and tables toppled,
Hands armed with broken bottles,
Standing no chance to win but,
We're not runnin', we're not runnin'.
There's a point I think we're missin',
It's in the air we raise our fists in,
In the smiles we cast each other,
My sister, my brother.
About the time we gave up hope and
We never find these locks still open,
Stumbling on stones unturned,
The hurt we feel, we all have found.
The lines we've crossed in search of change, but all they see is treason
Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.
Bonfires burn like beacons,
Guiding the lost and weakened.
Flames dance on crashing waves,
Guiding ships who've gone a stray
Time out, let's stop and think this through,
We've all got better things to do,
A talk in circles run in place,
Answers inches from my face.
Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.
Black eyes, broken fingers,
Blood drips and I let it run down my lips and to my swollen gums
When hope is non-existent,
Our instincts all scream, "Run",
We never turn our backs or even bite our tongue.
Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.
Although we have no obligation, to stay alive
On broken backs we beg for mercy, we will survive
(Break out) I won't be left here
Behind closed doors.

I always thought it was “the hurt we feel we all have earned” not found. My interpretation was that we earn our pain and scars.. we have suffered and earned the right to feel hurt. Found is a great lyric too. This is one of my favorite songs.. so glad I rediscovered these guys after some years.
I always thought it was earned as well until about 2 minutes before I read your comment.
first rise against song i heard in 6th grade, god damn anyone can rock to this
Same here!
Been there done that
Mine was Give it all in some ninja video haha
Paper wings on the burnout 3 soundtrack for xbox. Changed my life.
Mine was at 5yrs
if only any burnout-styled racing games use this kind of song instead of these electro/dubstep/dnb that we got now...
watch dogs are using help on the way :D
Dirt showdown has a few rise against songs in :D
NFS Underground 2, remember?
yup... but NFS Underground 1's soundtracks we're more badass than NFS Underground 2
@@DShaker24 That's what got me into Rise Against
I honestly forgot how many bangers they made.
been an RA fan for ever!!!!!!
I wanted to make a rise against playlist on youtube, but then i realized i would to put ALL their songs! RISE AGAINST FOR LIFE
Someone was blowing leaves outside my window and my phone thought this song was playing.
I remember when I discovered this song/band... A beautiful summer, listening to Rise Against all day long...
the thing i love about this band is how down to earth they are, they have so much fun that all these big mainstream bands dont, they actually look like they enjoy beig a band :D RISE AGAINST
I actually feel sorry for Tim how he got bullied due to his Heterochromia. I have it but am lucky because its partial meaning I have brown in the centre of my retinas and green on the outside and as soon as people found that out I was teased. For Tim it must have been so much worse. He's such a brave guy and a massive inspiration to all.
Screw "popular" music this song is awesome
Pop and popular music isn't the same
@@aixide he didn't mention pop music, but most popular music sucks nowadays
@@somethingidunno9991 Popular music also includes rock. Along popular music, there is also art music and folk music and this song is neither.
Popular music isn't just a label given to music that is popular enough, it's a specific form of music.
Still come back to this every now and again will always be a great band
This band was awesome at Ramfest South Africa. Got to love them and they sound so good live
