I've been waiting a few month for this short comparison video between the sounds of different 6 cylinder engines. Thank you for releasing this video. 🙏
It’s got a single cylinder head and the angle of the v is about 15 degrees. VR stands for “V-Reihe” which translates to V-inline. So it’s kind of a combination between a v and an inline engine. I believe the firing order is the same as a inline-6 too.
And because of the weird configuration of the cylinder head I believe the intake and exhaust ports are unequal in length, so that adds to the growl in the engine sound.
Sounds boring. Especially in American Cars. And when it comes to JDM. Why is it always the Z fanboys that straight pipe it. Makes it sound worse than a Honda Weedwacker…
If anyone ever listened to the Alfa 2.5 or 3.0litre V6 there would be an overwhelming vote for V6 configuration. Though the VR6 is a well made engine (with really unique pistons) and sounds similar to a 5 cylinder at low rpm. Nice, but not as wicked as a good V6.
Currently own both, in a Golf R32 and a Lexus RX350. My VW VR6 sounds more sporty to me as I hardly hear the exhaust on the Lexus lol. 6cyl inline engines still best though.
Best sounding V6 is the Arese Busso Engine from Alfa Romeo. There are man different V6 sounds depending on firing order. All Mitsubishi V6 for example has 1-2-3-4-5-6 which leads to a calm and relaxed but grumbeling V6 sound. Alfa Romeo has high pitched V6 sound, Nissan and Volkswagen V6 sounds great too
Cummins inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel beats them all. Never buy a new vehicle, or a gasoline engine, Cummins 12 valve turbo diesel is always better in every way. 30 mpg, 350hp 720 ftlbs torture. And million mile longevity
@ExalyThor BMW is just fancy talk for paid too much, and think money will fix the horrible engineering problems they put out. Fuck BMW, and everything they have ever made, cheap Poorly made plastic crap
Of course the VR wins. I've had 4 in the past. 2 mk3 gti's a swapped mk3 golf and swapped mk2 jetta. You can't beat that ever so sweet growl a VR makes. The bottom end can also handle a good amount of power stock.
@@haha_you_dead VR6 will do over 1million kilometres+. Only need to change water pump, oil seals, chains, & guides every 0.25million km. Bullet proof with proper maintenance.
i had a 2000 Jetta VR6 manual i bought in 1999 as first new car. That was the 2nd best engine I've ever owned. It was an rpm beast & could move those 3rd gen VWs quickly.
This is the one exception to the "there are no dumb questions" rule. This is it,this is the one,the single known dumb question. VR6 is hard to beat sound wise with 6 cyls
As a proud owner of a Cayenne with the 3.2 vr6 my vote goes for the vr6 And to be honest… even the audi 3.0 v6 tdi (with the right exhaust system) sounds better than the busso
Both sound pretty similar to me, plus most of the difference in sound likely comes down to the state of tune of the engine, exhaust setup ect.. not to mention different recording conditions as well Firing/crankshaft interval is what is really important, which is why a flatplane and crossplane V8 sound so different. Both V6, VR6 and also Inline 6 have a crank interval of 60 degrees, so in theory if you could get the exhaust setup and engine specs identical, with the only difference being the layout, I doubt you would be able to hear the difference
I love the Busso's split crank pins. I wish all V6's were made that way. Split pins and offset cylinders for maximum strength, compactness, and ideal inline-6 style sound.
The extra rasp of the VR just does it for me.
The V6 is the one that had that extra rasp.
@@jalee6587 deeper tone.
What about porsche’s flat 6, that thing sounds glorious
vr38dett tho
I can not stand the trumpet "rasp" of most v6's lol mainly VQ's. But hey, to each his own, everyone is entitled to their own opinion
vr6 not only looks like hybrid between v6 and l6, it also sounds like something in between
The name is exactly that V for V and R for german in line
@@altergreenhorn "The name VR6 comes from the combination of German words “Verkürzt” and “Reihenmotor” meaning “shortened inline engine”."

It has the firing order of an inline six. That's why it sounds like one
Because that's exactly what it is
that vr6 sounds insane actually
Yes
Im with you bro

VW r32 sound Is Amazing🥵
Vr6 all day every day 😍 and twice on Sunday with some forced induction 🤤
Vr6 is good for saving space as it's nearly as narrow as an inline but also only slightly longer than a i4 . It has a more compact footprint.
You mean shorter than and inline 4 not longer
@@bloodspartan300 Pretty sure it's longer. Actually, depends on the i4 I suppose
Why use v8 then?

I’m a vr6 fanboy but that v6 sounds sweet
I've been waiting a few month for this short comparison video between the sounds of different 6 cylinder engines. Thank you for releasing this video. 🙏
I own a V6 but have had a VR6, the growl that comes from the VR6 is without a doubt a far better sound
It’s got a single cylinder head and the angle of the v is about 15 degrees. VR stands for “V-Reihe” which translates to V-inline. So it’s kind of a combination between a v and an inline engine. I believe the firing order is the same as a inline-6 too.

@@mklaver31 I have heard that as one of the noise exaggerating things from multiple sources so think your right there
@dannyluciano9188 it's a v angled @ 12-15° which allows it to be a single head
@@mklaver31 because the cylinders are not inline with each other like a normal V6 it's impossible to make them equal.

I agree. I cant stand v6's with an aftermarket muffler. Personally im a straight 6 guy
Vr6 sounds like an empty can.
The vr6 just makes sense when there’s not much space

the redline of the vr6 is perfect
The vr6 is like having an inline 6 without the height/weight penalty of an inline 6.

V6, but I think a VR6 with a 1-2-3-6-5-4 firing order (alternating between banks) could give it a run for its money.
