I recently sat down with the Leader of ACT Party, David Seymour. Before getting into politics, David worked as an electrical engineer in NZ and for private sector Think Tanks in Canada. David has served as ACT leader and MP for Epsom since 2014.
David and I spoke about his vision for New Zealand, where he sees opportunities and what he would do differently than the current government. David was candid and honest in our conversation, and raised some very interesting perspectives.
With elections around the corner, I urge you to listen to this interview and then share it with your loved ones.

Mr Seymour has no problem acknowledging his Maori lineage and I feel as though he is on the right track when speaking about Maori issues, concerning the way forward for our country and for the people of our country. I do believe in equality for all people living in New Zealand and equal rights for all New Zealanders.

This is a gangrene that needs to be dealt with immediately.

I believe the divisive views held. And also David's fairly simplistic idea of cultural issues. Yes. We are all NZers but with differences and those differences need to be taken fully into consideration. The richness of diversity is what NZ is all about. I think this is a great interview and a good view of the various sides of David Seymour. @JamesLaughlinOfficial I can't see myself being in favour of his governing ideas but when he said people can do whatever they want to in life and hearing about his mother's health struggle, has been an eye-opener perhaps to his stance on things he has said publicly. Good on him for getting into politics and government. I think we need to all pray for continued wisdom for anyone governing a country, particularly our country, so we can keep hold of our hard-fought, valuable democracy and peace.@user-xb8tc3tc8t

A very good informative interview.. well done James Laughlin for giving a platform for the opposition to have their say. We look forward to a complete change in direction after Oct. Once we were a strong wealthy country with proud industrious hard working people - we can be that again. We will put an end to woke Labour with their mismanagement of the country's wealth, their racially divisive policies and their governing for minority groups only. The majority of NZ will have their say in Oct.

@@JamesLaughlinOfficial With strong economic policies in place, the country open and working, business believing their is a future to invest in and grow their businesses - our farming and agricultural community given incentives to expand and produce more ..in fact reward the workers well in all sectors of the workforce so the message to "get off your butt and do something" becomes contagious - the ripple effect of a bit of positive thinking and positive policies, given the feeling to be successful is a right and not a criminal offence...well paying jobs and a few good months pay in the pocket will turn things around very quickly. Opening up the country from top to bottom with top quality roads will be a great start... offering plenty of work and allowing the country to be open for tourism again. Put an end to extreme woke mismanagement of the country's wealth, an end to dividing the country with racial policies and governing for all peoples instead of the current situation with Labour governing for activist and extremist groups only. . We've turned the country around before within 6 months..after a previous Labour government (Clarke) with her destruction and mismanagement blow out...which saw our entire military stripped and air force gone... Key turned the country around very quickly ...we can do it again.

Hello James - Thanks for the question. It seems to me that David is stepping away from the old hierachical model of leadership to a way of leading where he first listens to and then gives voice to what citizens are saying is important for them.
He then facilitates the formulation of these thoughts and ideas into policies that reflect the preferred values of the citizenry. He seems to have a style of leading from behind that ensures that the voice and values of the people he represents are given high priority.

Such a reasonable interview. Extremely sensible views from Seymour to get success from as many people as possible, win win for as many as can be achieved as possible instead of destroying one group to benefit another group. It gives a great feeling that ACT's policies are not to harm but to make us overall, a greater more successful country. @@JamesLaughlinOfficial Yes well what would/should any leader bring to the table in future. I'll be 70 next month so have experienced the best and recently the worst in this country of ours, which has seen us in the past being a champion and leading democratic law abiding nation with equality of opportunity and freedom of speech for all its citizens. The new leader would need to take us back to those principles, we're only 5 million people(not growing at all) and it can be done with commonsense unbiased governance. Can that happen, I hope and pray that's the case, it'll be a long road though given the division and stupidity in our society(and the western world) now. So let's roll our sleeves up and get working away at it, nothing good happens by sitting on the sidelines hoping for change, we've got to make that happen ourselves. This is an interesting view, not one I agree with. Maori are entitled to representation that promotes their interests. There is no restriction based on race regarding who can be a member of their party or vote for them. It is no different from ACT promoting policies aimed at attracting the votes of the wealthy, labour promoting policies aimed at workers, or the greens promoting policies for the environment; it is simply a political sector that wants to promote a particular political view. If you disagree with their perspective, don't vote for them.

@@JamesLaughlinOfficial Reset. From my perspective reset is a deliberate act of putting off all previous concept and action for the sake of accurate review of every possible thing. This is functional, spiritual, conceptual and a profound “taking stock” of what is working and what is not. NZ does not need “business as usual”. Over time practices, priorities, agendas grow into entrenched behaviour. Entrenched ways of doing things. Things past treasured become lost. Things of little value become habits. Reset puts a lot on hold. Asks a lot of questions. Looks into what we are really wanting to achieve and look like. Reset can look failures in the face. Reset can take joy in new direction. Following Covid 19 there was a lot of talk about reset. But all that we saw in Australia was a bombardment of agendas, half-truths, narratives that divide. It was not a reset. It was a mess.
