12 years since the last time I contemplated suicide. Listening to this makes me thankful for the woman who saved my life, the woman I'm now married to 12 years later. The woman who let me vent my pain, anger, frustration ect. who took the time to speak to some random kid she didn't even know before that night.
I used to listen to this when I was suicidal, over 10 years ago. I've since moved from that awful town I grew up in, got my first apartment, I'm engaged to someone who was also suicidal and beat it, and am finally happy. Granted-lot of PTSD and trauma to unpack, but I'm glad I'm here to unpack it and whoever is listening to this-I'm glad you're still here too.

The issue with that is this song is about suicide, which could’ve been prevented. So while yes we should be thankful for the memories, it sucks they took their own life and that’s not something we need to look back at with positivity.

Edit 2: (this will be a lot of reading for you,) The rat's been lying to me the whole time, I've BEEN sus of this, but after looking into it and doing some investigation, it turns out that everything I now about him was a lie, so I broke all contact with him, told him to erase me from his life and said goodbye. (Not exactly how it went, I was nicer about it) I looked for small details, in pictures he sent, I looked for scars he said he had from getting into fights, (he lost all of them) which none of them ever there, even ones that wouldn't have healed so quickly, I searched up his social medias which I never cared to check before, ETC. Most EVERYTHING I looked into never corresponded to what he's told me. I am ashamed that I ever befriended this poor excuse for a human being. He also lied about the whole "I might die," thing, which makes me even more mad, because I really did care about him, he was a close friend and he just lied to me like it was nothing! There's no excuse to joke about this stuff. There is so much more I could write, and I have much I want to expose him for, but this comment is already long. To people who've replied with kind words, thank you, but they aren't needed anymore, and if the guy I'm talking about just read this, then here's the truth, I hate you right now, I trusted you and you made a fake person that I cared about deeply. I've shared my secrets with you because I trusted you. Yes there is one thing I've lied about since I've known you, and it's that I've been skeptical of your lies from the beginning. I’m 14 and lost my mom to an abusive step dad now I live with my dad and it’s just been so hard knowing this is one of her favorite songs and it pains me to hear this song at all. The hardest thing about this song, is the fact it doesn’t mean much until you experience someone else or yourself attempt/succeed in taking their own life.

It’s so weird that your heart can actually hurt. As a kid I had always thought your heart was just for pumping blood and your actual emotions were in your head but at a certain point your actual heart starts to ache and you know you just can’t do it anymore.

My friend Christian was one of the first friends I made in college. He was so easy to talk to and I loved seeing him at school every day. I saw so much of myself in him, in the way we both were unsure of ourselves and didn’t have the highest self esteem. Even so, we both were the type of people who wanted to walk through this world showing as much love, kindness and generosity as we could. Christian could make a room light up with laughter and always lent an ear to anyone who needed to get something off of their chest. Last November, just after his 20th birthday, Christian committed suicide in his home after months of pulling away from everyone he knew. It was so devastating to meet a friend who had similar problems but didn’t survive in the end. I had considered suicide for years because I’m gay...and for all of the issues that can arise in ones life, but now I know I need to carry on...for him. To prove that people like us, who hurt so much, can make it...
Damn, I had a good friend named Christian whom has also passed away. It doesn’t get any easier but it’s motive enough to not let yourself let your other friends lose to suicidal thoughts as well.

2:00 is super emotional for me. During one of the lowest points in my life I approached a friend to tell them I was struggling and was asked not to tell them, they didn't want their day ruined (the "he'll say he's just not the same"). I remember I left and got into my car and flew down the road. Near a cliff I slammed on the breaks and stopped myself. I knew something was wrong. As much hurt and pain I was in, I think I subconsciously knew it would only solve my own. I broke down crying. Nobody checked on me, nobody knew, still nobody knows. I almost drove "till I lost the road." While I still feel the pain today, I'm thankful for the second chance I was given. I don't know why I hit the breaks for sure, but I wouldn't be here today if I didn't.
The devil makes us feel that way he will bring us down to our knees and make us cry out for help eventhough nobody is listening. He wants us to suffer so much we get to the point of throwing our life away... but God will step in and show us the value of life even if we don’t seem to see it he makes us feel it for a brief moment and then it all goes away. I think my cancer is back but due to bad insurance and COVID I'm still waiting to take more tests. My blood work showed possible kidney problems, pain in my sides. This October would have made 5 years since my diagnosis. Makes me sad because I only just finished college and was excited to enjoy life. Edit: I just wanted to say thank you for all the support!! It's meant a lot! More than I can really put into words. I'm actually doing really well and last I checked my cancer is still in full remission. I turned 26 a few weeks ago and I am excited to keep moving forward in life. I hope all of you are doing great as well!
My friend has had terminal cancer for several years and yet through all the struggle she still remains strong, even if she may not make it in the end. She has fought for so long and has made an impression on everybody, so stay strong and keep fighting! I wish you the best
Sometimes it doesn't get better, but ending your life only creates more of that pain for the people who love you, get through your pain or be strong and bare it so more people dont have to.

I haven't been suicidal, and I don't really have depression or anxiety (I am an extremely emotional person though), but one of my friends almost committed suicide and I had to talk her out of it. She would listen to songs like this and I would listen with her before I knew the meaning behind the lyrics. Before I knew what the lyrics meant, I had fun with her just singing the lyrics to songs like this. I think because I have had to go through almost losing a friend, plus those memories I have in which we listened to "depressive songs", I now like the genre. I sometimes feel guilty liking these songs though, as I know a lot of people who listen to these kinds of songs have been through way worse than me. Such as actually losing a person close to them. Maybe that is because I am only thirteen and still figuring out the world. I just feel guilty too because I know these people who write these songs have probably been through a lot as well.
This is a 7 month late reply so this may seem random but don't downplay your own experiences. The feeling that other people have it worse will be there forever, but don't feel guilty about feeling sad or liking depressing music. The idea of not being sad because people have it worse is like not being happy because people are better off. It is pretty ridiculous when you think about it. It's good to keep a level head and stay positive but don't ignore any pain you have. Sorry you had to go through that experience with your friend, I lost my best friend to suicide at 13 (I'm 19 now) and I didn't have the chance to talk to him. Stuff like that sucks, nobody should feel like that is the best option, though I've been there myself before. Don't feel guilty about other peoples' experiences though, life has its ups and downs for everyone, and published songs are for everyone, don't feel bad for enjoying those. Everyone has "stuff", and that stuff is valid. Hope you are doing well.

I feel alone and its hard to be happy and i see everyone else happy with people and i get jealous and I always wonder when it will be my time but its never gonna be my time and i get more and more frustrated every day. Im not depressed, im more neutral with happy and sad moments but this feeling is always with me even when i dont notice it

Someone close to me did this song on the piano and sing it at a talent show. They won. They chose this song because of what they went through and survived. I thank God every day that they are still here, that they got their second chance and are so so much better.

I once stayed up till 4 in he morning talking my friend out of suicide. She was getting so much hate in her school and was being cyber bullied. She lives in UAE and I live in Pakistan, and at that moment I hated every single mile that was separating us. I don't know what I would have done if she committed suicide that time. Please, always look out for you friend, always be there for them and please, please don't spread hate, you never know what the person is going through.

She saved me in more ways than one but ran away and hid so i couldnt save her.....i would say it gets easier but it doesnt. It hurts everyday as im sure u know by now. Its beem 15yrs for me. You need to realize that you needed help as well from professionals that simply weren't there to help you both overcome depression. I suffer from depression for longer I was able to recognize. I am worst now than ever and I don't know how long I will keep up to this suffering. Most likely I will not make it through...all the messages I read here in this section really makes me cry out for help but I Don't have the courage not I am able to do so. my family is all gone along with my family friends. I am just a addicted to medicine that only confuse me more. I stopped to your message because I need to deliver a message to you. You touched me the most, your son is in need of you forgiving yourself. You LOVED your son, that is all your son needs to know to get through light. Forgive yourself because you weren't guilty of his being a lost soul. But you can now help him by forgiving yourself of the fact that you also needed help to embrace something that is very difficult to address even for professionals. You will then save your son from the other side, where he is. Tell him you love him, and that you love yourself. Tell him you forgive yourself for not having the help you needed. Say it all loud to him. You will then save yourself and your son from the dark. We need to awaken society that depression is something very serious, and alert all public and private health care, friends, family and community, that a depression is something can be treated if dealt with accordingly with love and understanding. We need to spread the word that loneliness is only cured by forgiveness and love.

I had known this girl pretty much all throughout school, and we had been very close friends. She always seemed so happy to me, but she seemed so fragile at the same time. A guy told her that she talked to much and she cried. I thought she was just emotionally fragile at the time, but now I know that she was depressed. Those smiles were her trying to hide the sadness in her eyes. She moved a little over a year ago, and I’m still beating myself up because of how stupid I was. She was going through so much pain all that time and I was right there, I could tell that she liked me, and I liked her to. There was a guy who always said we looked like a couple, and I’d always get embarrassed and deny it, and I’m just now realizing how much I hurt her. It truly is the ones who seen the happiest that harbor the most sadness. I just hope that she’s still okay and that she’s doing better.

5 years ago, I lost my best friend Kiki to suicide. She was the light of my life. I never knew how much she was going through because she never told me. She was always so happy on the outside. When her brother came over to tell me...it broke my heart. He gave me her letterman jacket which she wanted me to have. I keep it in my room with a box that says Kiki. I miss her. Heaven has a beautiful angel up there.

I once ran a mile and jumped a fence into my friends apartment because she tried overdosing and kill herself. I called the police and they came and took her to the hospital. I took a bus for about 20 to 30 minutes to get to the hospital where she was at. I then sat next to her bed. When she woke up I fed her some medicine the doctor gave me. I continued to look after her for about an hour or 2 till her grandma got there. She now has a job. Is going to college and is happy with her girlfriend. Please. Always try to help your friends is what I'm trying to say. Death is never an option. If you just continue with life it'll all be ok. Just the way hers is. She thanks me for that because she wouldn't be where she is today if I had not done that. Be there for someone as much as you can. Love someone till they love themselves. I.. i had a friend who did the same for me, she ran a mile to my house through all the bushes and trees in her path, she called 911 and stayed with me in the hospital when I woke up, I’m so fucking great full for her being there for me, still friends with her to this fucking day. In our chorus class, a kid is singing this for our solo. He sang it for the class the today, and then our chorus teacher started talking about suicide. She said how we're all worth it and how God put us on this Earth for a reason. And I agree 100%. People started coming up saying how they attempted suicide and I was in tears. You've got to be his father figure. I feel the best way to honor your brother, would be to love his child as if he was your own. I don't know if you have any faith in God, but either way, I'm sure your brother is at peace in a much better place.
I love this song a lot. As a suicide and self harm survivor, I've only just realised a message in the song. For me, the message talks about regretting not helping someone continue on with their life. To quote, "where did I go wrong, I lost a friend somewhere in the bitterness and I would've stayed up with you all night had I known how to save a life." That really hits home for me. People talk about the idea of staying up all night to talk someone out of suicide. Nobody did that for me. I was almost a victim.

3 years ago (when I was 12) I slept over at my friends house on a Friday and the carnival was in town. The next morning we were getting ready, while blasting this song. Her and her sister were fighting over my superman hat and she told me that she would give me her life for that hat. Later that day, we were leaving the fair and she said that we were lucky we didn't lose anyone. That night, I got a few missed calls from one of our other friends. They told me that she got hit by some guy while on a walk. I got to the hospital, but I was too late. At her funeral, I put my superman hat in her coffin and every time I visit her grave, I play this song on the playlist I made for us. She was only 13 and was the sweetest person I've ever known. Her and her sisters were the reasons why I stopped cutting and why I've felt alive again. I knew them since we were born. She would be turning 17 this year and graduating high school next year. The guy was caught, but nothing happened to him. They didn't even give him a ticket. I'm not writing this for your pity, but I'm writing this to let anyone and everyone know that there is always a light at the end of that tunnel. It may be a long journey until you get to it, but it will all be worth it, just to breathe in that fresh air. Edit: Thank you all so much for you encouraging words. I’m happy to say that I’ve been cut free since January 21st. A lot have things have happened this year, that would’ve made me relapse (such as the multiple funerals I had to attend), but I stuck through it and I let myself grow from this.

This kid i use to be friends with committed suicide a few weeks ago and I always have this memory of staying the night at his house one night and having one of the best nights ever, but our friendship faded away in the next year, its just now hitting me that hes gone and i didnt get to say goodbye. I wish i would have stayed in contact with him so i would have know he needed help. now i just sit here thinking if i still talked to him i could have helped him and he would still be here today. I know it's sad but there's nothing you could of done even if you *_HAD_* stayed in touch there's no telling whether or not you would have been able to do anything--for all you know he could have been able to hide his depression so well that you never would have guessed he was suicidal. It does seem peaceful. Believe me, I was in this situation a few years ago and I did some horrible things to myself. I got so close to death that I don't know how I'm even still here. But it isn't peaceful. Its not what it seems. It looks like an escape but its not. So don't give in. I know that everyone always says that things will get better, and you think to yourself, "how? When? They will not" But trust me, they do. And it may seem hopeless, but yes, before it gets better, it gets worse. But you will stay strong. Because you are strong. There is strength within you that you may never have seen, but trust that it is there. And you are not alone. There are millions of people who struggle with this same thing every day. You are wanted. You are loved. Even if you can't see this, you can be so much, so don't throw your life away. Don't. Its not worth it. Don't give into the abyss. Stay strong. And perhaps, try to pray. It can help you. And if not, I will make sure to pray for you. You have all of my support.

Yes, dear person, live for other people. Take care of your basic needs (hygiene, eat, regular sleep) because that helps with depression. But most of all the best wisdom is a life worth living is a life of giving. They say when you find yourself middle-aged the only things that will have really mattered are the relationships you've made and the time you've invested in them. Also, if you want to believe in God and learn what it looks like to live a pleasing Christian Life for god, that will make your life feel filled with purpose. I suggest the FSSP traditional church. For years, I've listened to this song. For years, i never really could understand what he was saying so i only knew snipets of the lyrics. The other day, it hit me what this is about with the lines "And I would have stayed up with you all night had i know how to save a life". 12 years ago, my mother committed suicide by taking all her sleeping pills. I am currently 28 years old, and I am listening to this song because I never got over the death of a next door neighbor who died in 1998 when I was just five years old. This was in Morristown, New Jersey, and granted, the neighbor, Merrill Harvey, was a very elderly man when I knew him (He was born in 1911) but he was like family to me and his passing in still VERY hard, even 23 years after the fact. Then, ten years later in 2008, my grandfather, who was a WWII veteran who had been born in 1925, passed away. I was very close to that grandfather, and he shared many of my interests and passions, and he came over to visit once a month, once again, I never fully recovered from this RIP Merrill Harvey (1911-1998) and Walter Laity (1925-2008)

I interpret the song as the loss of a loved one whether in life or death. Sometimes right in front of your eyes you are witnessing the death of a friendship or marriage. And you just cant get it back the way it was..... Hurts.
I wish I had a true friend who wouldn't only send me sad emoticons every time I have my mental breakdowns or even get mad for having emotions that never go away no matter what I do, or emotions that hit me like a bus put of nowhere. It takes so much courage to confess that one isn't holding up really well. Please be gentle. We never know that they are barely hanging. We can be anyone's trigger.

I've since moved from that awful town I grew up in, got my first apartment, I'm engaged to someone who was also suicidal and beat it, and am finally happy. Granted-lot of PTSD and trauma to unpack, but I'm glad I'm here to unpack it and whoever is listening to this-I'm glad you're still here too.

Edit 2: (this will be a lot of reading for you,) The rat's been lying to me the whole time, I've BEEN sus of this, but after looking into it and doing some investigation, it turns out that everything I now about him was a lie, so I broke all contact with him, told him to erase me from his life and said goodbye. (Not exactly how it went, I was nicer about it) I looked for small details, in pictures he sent, I looked for scars he said he had from getting into fights, (he lost all of them) which none of them ever there, even ones that wouldn't have healed so quickly, I searched up his social medias which I never cared to check before, ETC. Most EVERYTHING I looked into never corresponded to what he's told me. I am ashamed that I ever befriended this poor excuse for a human being. He also lied about the whole "I might die," thing, which makes me even more mad, because I really did care about him, he was a close friend and he just lied to me like it was nothing! There's no excuse to joke about this stuff. There is so much more I could write, and I have much I want to expose him for, but this comment is already long. To people who've replied with kind words, thank you, but they aren't needed anymore, and if the guy I'm talking about just read this, then here's the truth, I hate you right now, I trusted you and you made a fake person that I cared about deeply. Maybe part of the truth of the matter is......... I feel like that in my life right now and maybe I just needed to find something to make myself laugh.
My friend Christian was one of the first friends I made in college. He was so easy to talk to and I loved seeing him at school every day. I saw so much of myself in him, in the way we both were unsure of ourselves and didn’t have the highest self esteem. Even so, we both were the type of people who wanted to walk through this world showing as much love, kindness and generosity as we could. Christian could make a room light up with laughter and always lent an ear to anyone who needed to get something off of their chest.
Last November, just after his 20th birthday, Christian committed suicide in his home after months of pulling away from everyone he knew.
It was so devastating to meet a friend who had similar problems but didn’t survive in the end. I had considered suicide for years because I’m gay...and for all of the issues that can arise in ones life, but now I know I need to carry on...for him. To prove that people like us, who hurt so much, can make it...
You have survived 100% of your bad days and you will survive this.

2:00 is super emotional for me. During one of the lowest points in my life I approached a friend to tell them I was struggling and was asked not to tell them, they didn't want their day ruined (the "he'll say he's just not the same"). I remember I left and got into my car and flew down the road. Near a cliff I slammed on the breaks and stopped myself. I knew something was wrong. As much hurt and pain I was in, I think I subconsciously knew it would only solve my own. I broke down crying. Nobody checked on me, nobody knew, still nobody knows. I almost drove "till I lost the road." While I still feel the pain today, I'm thankful for the second chance I was given. I don't know why I hit the breaks for sure, but I wouldn't be here today if I didn't.

I think my cancer is back but due to bad insurance and COVID I'm still waiting to take more tests. My blood work showed possible kidney problems, pain in my sides. This October would have made 5 years since my diagnosis. Makes me sad because I only just finished college and was excited to enjoy life.
Edit: I just wanted to say thank you for all the support!! It's meant a lot! More than I can really put into words. I'm actually doing really well and last I checked my cancer is still in full remission. I turned 26 a few weeks ago and I am excited to keep moving forward in life. I haven't been suicidal, and I don't really have depression or anxiety (I am an extremely emotional person though), but one of my friends almost committed suicide and I had to talk her out of it. She would listen to songs like this and I would listen with her before I knew the meaning behind the lyrics. Before I knew what the lyrics meant, I had fun with her just singing the lyrics to songs like this. I think because I have had to go through almost losing a friend, plus those memories I have in which we listened to "depressive songs", I now like the genre. I sometimes feel guilty liking these songs though, as I know a lot of people who listen to these kinds of songs have been through way worse than me. Such as actually losing a person close to them. Maybe that is because I am only thirteen and still figuring out the world. I just feel guilty too because I know these people who write these songs have probably been through a lot as well.
This is a 7 month late reply so this may seem random but don't downplay your own experiences. The feeling that other people have it worse will be there forever, but don't feel guilty about feeling sad or liking depressing music. The idea of not being sad because people have it worse is like not being happy because people are better off. It is pretty ridiculous when you think about it. It's good to keep a level head and stay positive but don't ignore any pain you have. Sorry you had to go through that experience with your friend, I lost my best friend to suicide at 13 (I'm 19 now) and I didn't have the chance to talk to him. Stuff like that sucks, nobody should feel like that is the best option, though I've been there myself before. Don't feel guilty about other peoples' experiences though, life has its ups and downs for everyone, and published songs are for everyone, don't feel bad for enjoying those. Everyone has "stuff", and that stuff is valid. Hope you are doing well.

I once stayed up till 4 in he morning talking my friend out of suicide. She was getting so much hate in her school and was being cyber bullied. She lives in UAE and I live in Pakistan, and at that moment I hated every single mile that was separating us. I don't know what I would have done if she committed suicide that time. Please, always look out for you friend, always be there for them and please, please don't spread hate, you never know what the person is going through.

... when I was a little girl this song would make me cry so hard and I never knew why. AT 23 after loosing both my parents. I finally understand the hurt this song talks about. Rest in peace mom and dad I would have stayed up ALL night if I knew how to save your lives.
I was scrolling through the comments and it's crazy how many of us are going through different things in life but are somehow feeling the same.. whether its the fact that you lost somebody, you're going through struggles or fighting an inner battle, whatever it may be I want to tell you everything will eventually be ok. You need to realize that you needed help as well from professionals that simply weren't there to help you both overcome depression. I suffer from depression for longer I was able to recognize. You LOVED your son, that is all your son needs to know to get through light. Forgive yourself because you weren't guilty of his being a lost soul. But you can now help him by forgiving yourself of the fact that you also needed help to embrace something that is very difficult to address even for professionals. You will then save your son from the other side, where he is. Tell him you love him, and that you love yourself. Tell him you forgive yourself for not having the help you needed. I had known this girl pretty much all throughout school, and we had been very close friends. She always seemed so happy to me, but she seemed so fragile at the same time. A guy told her that she talked to much and she cried. I thought she was just emotionally fragile at the time, but now I know that she was depressed. Those smiles were her trying to hide the sadness in her eyes. She moved a little over a year ago, and I’m still beating myself up because of how stupid I was. She was going through so much pain all that time and I was right there, I could tell that she liked me, and I liked her to. There was a guy who always said we looked like a couple, and I’d always get embarrassed and deny it, and I’m just now realizing how much I hurt her. It truly is the ones who seen the happiest that harbor the most sadness. I just hope that she’s still okay and that she’s doing better.

5 years ago, I lost my best friend Kiki to suicide. She was the light of my life. I never knew how much she was going through because she never told me. She was always so happy on the outside. When her brother came over to tell me...it broke my heart. He gave me her letterman jacket which she wanted me to have. I keep it in my room with a box that says Kiki. I miss her. Heaven has a beautiful angel up there.

I once ran a mile and jumped a fence into my friends apartment because she tried overdosing and kill herself. I called the police and they came and took her to the hospital. I took a bus for about 20 to 30 minutes to get to the hospital where she was at. I then sat next to her bed. When she woke up I fed her some medicine the doctor gave me. I continued to look after her for about an hour or 2 till her grandma got there. She now has a job. Is going to college and is happy with her girlfriend. Please. Always try to help your friends is what I'm trying to say. Death is never an option. If you just continue with life it'll all be ok. Just the way hers is. She thanks me for that because she wouldn't be where she is today if I had not done that. Be there for someone as much as you can. Love someone till they love themselves. Respect someone till they learn to respect themselves. Carry them when they can't walk. Have a good life people

In our chorus class, a kid is singing this for our solo. He sang it for the class the today, and then our chorus teacher started talking about suicide. She said how we're all worth it and how God put us on this Earth for a reason. And I agree 100%. People started coming up saying how they attempted suicide and I was in tears. I love this song a lot. As a suicide and self harm survivor, I've only just realised a message in the song. For me, the message talks about regretting not helping someone continue on with their life.
To quote, "where did I go wrong, I lost a friend somewhere in the bitterness and I would've stayed up with you all night had I known how to save a life."
That really hits home for me. People talk about the idea of staying up all night to talk someone out of suicide. Nobody did that for me. I was almost a victim.
Suicide is a choice, don’t forget that or try to pass the blame.

I never used to correlate this song to suicide until I lost someone to suicide that I very much cared about. This hits the emotions right on the spot.
3 years ago (when I was 12) I slept over at my friends house on a Friday and the carnival was in town. The next morning we were getting ready, while blasting this song. Her and her sister were fighting over my superman hat and she told me that she would give me her life for that hat. Later that day, we were leaving the fair and she said that we were lucky we didn't lose anyone. That night, I got a few missed calls from one of our other friends. They told me that she got hit by some guy while on a walk. I got to the hospital, but I was too late. At her funeral, I put my superman hat in her coffin and every time I visit her grave, I play this song on the playlist I made for us. She was only 13 and was the sweetest person I've ever known. Her and her sisters were the reasons why I stopped cutting and why I've felt alive again. I knew them since we were born. She would be turning 17 this year and graduating high school next year. The guy was caught, but nothing happened to him. They didn't even give him a ticket. I'm not writing this for your pity, but I'm writing this to let anyone and everyone know that there is always a light at the end of that tunnel. It may be a long journey until you get to it, but it will all be worth it, just to breathe in that fresh air.
Edit: Thank you all so much for you encouraging words. I’m happy to say that I’ve been cut free since January 21st. A lot have things have happened this year, that would’ve made me relapse (such as the multiple funerals I had to attend), but I stuck through it and I let myself grow from this.

I lost my mom last year and it’s never been the same without her though she lives on forever in my heart.
This kid i use to be friends with committed suicide a few weeks ago and I always have this memory of staying the night at his house one night and having one of the best nights ever, but our friendship faded away in the next year, its just now hitting me that hes gone and i didnt get to say goodbye. I wish i would have stayed in contact with him so i would have know he needed help. now i just sit here thinking if i still talked to him i could have helped him and he would still be here today. Hey, hey! No blaming yourself! You aren't even the slightest bit at fault here! I know it's sad but there's nothing you could of done even if you *_HAD_* stayed in touch there's no telling whether or not you would have been able to do anything--for all you know he could have been able to hide his depression so well that you never would have guessed he was suicidal. So the best thing you can do now is to keep on living your life to the fullest for him. ^^

I should be dead. A few times over, I'm not sure why I'm still here. Daily I ponder the great black abyss. It seems so blissful, it seems so peaceful. Hold my hand and hear my voice, "I hope things get better, I really do; however there isn't any guarantee in life."

It does seem peaceful. Believe me, I was in this situation a few years ago and I did some horrible things to myself. I got so close to death that I don't know how I'm even still here. But it isn't peaceful. Its not what it seems. It looks like an escape but its not. So don't give in. I know that everyone always says that things will get better, and you think to yourself, "how? When? They will not" But trust me, they do. And it may seem hopeless, but yes, before it gets better, it gets worse. But you will stay strong. Because you are strong. There is strength within you that you may never have seen, but trust that it is there. And you are not alone. There are millions of people who struggle with this same thing every day. You are wanted. You are loved. Even if you can't see this, you can be so much, so don't throw your life away. Don't. Its not worth it. Don't give into the abyss. Stay strong. And perhaps, try to pray. It can help you. And if not, I will make sure to pray for you. You have all of my support.
Perhaps something inside of you, a little part of you just didn't wanna die. Maybe there's some kind of reason to that. Let's find out!

Yes, dear person, live for other people. Take care of your basic needs (hygiene, eat, regular sleep) because that helps with depression. But most of all the best wisdom is a life worth living is a life of giving. They say when you find yourself middle-aged the only things that will have really mattered are the relationships you've made and the time you've invested in them. Also, if you want to believe in God and learn what it looks like to live a pleasing Christian Life for god, that will make your life feel filled with purpose. I suggest the FSSP traditional church. So much good and hope can come from living to anticipate going to heaven one day. !!

For years, I've listened to this song. For years, i never really could understand what he was saying so i only knew snipets of the lyrics. The other day, it hit me what this is about with the lines "And I would have stayed up with you all night had i know how to save a life". 12 years ago, my mother committed suicide by taking all her sleeping pills. She had asked me for the water. I used to think "If i had just never got her that water." This song has hit me so much harder as an adult now that i know the words.

He died of to much stress and he had cancer, the second my dad told my the first thing I did was thought. “ this is always going be my fault” after a year ish of therapy irealized it’s not ever going to be my fault . If you hadn’t gotten the water...she would have done it herself...it’s not your fault honey........if you depressed you will do anything you can to end your life and she was thinking it before you got that water....how would u know anyways??...a year before my dad was paralyzed he got in a physical fight with my brother for being mean to me. Because he was an adult and I wasn’t....he ended up having surgery on his neck because the fight,....one year later he got an infection in the neck because the surgery or something.......he ended up in that wheelchair and so many meds because his health and I have to live with the fact that even though no one realizes it.....I caused his life to be horrible.....so many pills....hospital trips and bad depression and pain all over his body.......I know it I hadn’t cried when my brother was mean to me my dad would be okay and he would also probably be in and out of prison again.........it’s a lose lose situation but don’t blame yourself because what’s done is done...because of this I’ve caused my dad horrible grief and because of the drastic changes I have been depressed and on probation for over a year because I didn’t want to deal with it and now I’m in foster care in some other fucking county and that’s what I get for blaming myself....so just dont

I was 13 and so was this boy we were friends then it became a relationship we split up didn’t talk for abt two weeks and during them two weeks he committed suicide I remember on the day I wanted to speak to him but my childish 13 year old mind said “go away” because he was at my desk and I will never get the chance to say I’m sorry, it’s nearly been three years and not a day goes by where I don’t think about him, so my point is be kind to others even ones u may not be good with because u don’t know when the last time u speak to them will be, R.I.P Morgan 🕊
My best friend killed herself November 4.on a Wednesday. With a gun. Everything I listen to reminds me of her and I don't know what to do. The last conversation was an argument and so I was gonna wait a week or two for her to calm down and then try and be her friend again. Instead my last call was after she posted a note on her story and all I could do is ask if she was ok and then call the cops. I miss you valerie and I'm sorry I wasn't there for you like you were there for me.
I lost my friend to a plane crash and I've been listening to this song for almost an hour.
I know this is about losing a friend to suicide, but it's still loss nonetheless.

I am currently 28 years old, and I am listening to this song because I never got over the death of a next door neighbor who died in 1998 when I was just five years old. This was in Morristown, New Jersey, and granted, the neighbor, Merrill Harvey, was a very elderly man when I knew him (He was born in 1911) but he was like family to me and his passing in still VERY hard, even 23 years after the fact. Then, ten years later in 2008, my grandfather, who was a WWII veteran who had been born in 1925, passed away. I was very close to that grandfather, and he shared many of my interests and passions, and he came over to visit once a month, once again, I never fully recovered from this RIP Merrill Harvey (1911-1998) and Walter Laity (1925-2008)

I interpret the song as the loss of a loved one whether in life or death. Sometimes right in front of your eyes you are witnessing the death of a friendship or marriage. And you just cant get it back the way it was.....

I wish I had a true friend who wouldn't only send me sad emoticons every time I have my mental breakdowns or even get mad for having emotions that never go away no matter what I do, or emotions that hit me like a bus put of nowhere. It takes so much courage to confess that one isn't holding up really well. Please be gentle. We never know that they are barely hanging. We can be anyone's trigger.
