- A look along the remains of the former Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway, focusing on the section through Bath Oldfield Park, over the current main line & through the Devonshire & Combe Hill Tunnels, and on to the small village of Wellow.
One of our favourite cycle rides.
As a child in the 50s i often went on a train on this line as i lived in Wellow and Mum shopped in Bath. Great to see it so well looked after.
Lovely walk. Thanks.
Thank you, really enjoyed that, mind wish the old S&D was still there, and who knows........
That long tunnel must have been the one were footplate crew had to place a damp cloth over their nose mouth to prevent choking on exhaust fumes from the locomotive.
Which famously didn't do the trick once.
hi,great video, how about doing the somerset coal canal ,it passed through midford.regards peter
Not scheduled for this year, but maybe next if it looks worthwhile.
What an amazing walking path! But is the rest of the tracks nothing? No path? Abandoned?
Some of trackbed is on private land or destroyed.
Hi there the tunnels must be well maintained especially the lights and the sound system for playing the music. Kids could break the lights and speakers.
We have been following the old Somerset & Dorset Branch as well. Driving to lots of secret locations! It’s brill isn’t it? I’ve made quite a few videos of our route if you would fancy subscribing
Sure
Yes please I would love that
Looks great I’d like to ride it
What was that bird at 2.28 that flew up into a tree
It is a Magpie. For a brief second the camera exaggerate the blue tones in the tail making it appear like it could be something more exotic - but it is good old Pica pica.
Be better if they played the sounds of steam trains in the tunnels, to give it some atmosphere.
How long did it take you to do this walk??
Around 6-8 hours
