Here's a NEVER before seen Dunk Off of Michael Jordan and some campers and coaches from UAB in 1989. Pretty dope stuff and a rare 360 for MJ and obviously the dope Free Throw Line Dunks!
Big thanks to Scott Perry for this dope footage!
I love that he always dribbles into his free throw line dunks. Way more impressive than a lot of the guys since that just carry the ball at a full sprint. Mike is at dribbling speed, which really makes the athleticism required that much higher. Combine that with the subtle grace and technique that he displays, and it really was an artform for him. Nobody's dunks look as amazing in slow motion.
Well said. Just an incredible physique too. He had the leanest, most defined yet elastic body I ever saw. Like I tell people, that man was created by God to be what he became. God does this so we will honor him, yet too often we miss that. God put his stamp on MJ by the graceful movements. Sure, hard work can make one jump higher. But to make it look that artistic? Nah, that is a Divine gift.
America was in love with this man. Every kid on every basketball court across the whole entire country was going, "Jordan!" every time they took a shot 😂
With their tongues hanging out😛😂
Still do. What u mean 'was' lol
Hes the GOAT. And always will be. Could do literally everything at an expert level. Dribble, finish, shoot, make plays, defend, rebound, steals, blocks. All-time most athletic w 1 of the highest all-time IQs. And did it all w a style and grace never seen before then and now
👍
Not me
Michael Jordan's body posture when he walks around on the court is that of someone ready to fly
Damn!!! Hahahhhha
I always thought that Michael shuffled around like he didn't have a muscle in his body. It was really deceiving to watch him walk around like that while knowing that he was one of the world's greatest athletes.
Weh
🌟HAWG! D. Wade & KB had that same walk on the court.
@@1regularperson they some phonies stolen from air Jordan
I was actually here for this! I was sitting in the area where this person is filming from. This was my first time seeing Jordan in person. Wow the chance of seeing this resurfacing. This just made my day!
What a cool memory that is to have

I went to UAB and worked at Bartow Arena in 96. There was a janitor who was always lying and he told us about the day in 89 when Jordan came and put on a show. We NEVER believed him.
Fast forward 30 years and I come across this!
Dammm, this 89 freethrow dunk looked even better than that 88 freethrow dunk! He’s just so high in the air so effortlessly.
I was thinking the same thing

Michael Jordans movements on the court are matched only by Michael Jacksons movements on the dance stage. Something magical to their every motion.... The fact that there are no words to describe it makes it even greater.
That's a great point you could say Muhammad Ali in the ring as well.
@@shannonsmith7201 agreed. There are certain athletes that jump off the screen in a way that's hard to even describe. Jordan is the most obvious example of this, and Muhammad Ali is probably the second. Others include Roy Jones Jr and Barry sanders
spot on. MJ goats
Yep absolutely, there's a certain grace Jordan and Jackson both have that no one else did. They were so much better than everyone else even though they were the best on the planet they could make it look effortless. Two GOATS
Both Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson practiced for hours and hours and hours every day perfecting their craft
You can't see any of the players face, the only way you know who is Jordan is by looking at the walk, his walk is so specific you can't miss it, crazy swag.
Louie Tzepher that is why it's called unseen lol ✌️
Not only the walk but the moves in the air... and of course the leg motion!!!
Yup..mj swag is undeniable. Plus the crowd reaction. The little dude dunks like steve francis.
That's mj for sure and Kenny Smith I think

5:15 GOAT ft dunk. Effortless, the run-up, explosiveness, frozen poetry above the rim. One-hand pump. Goat hands + Goat Hops + Goat body control. Sickening and pure style. All the dunks here are so beautiful.

I remember going to this in 98. My middle school coach took us. The young guy at the end just won the high-school dunk contest. I remember Jordan pointing at his shoes bc he the red pair that just came out a day or 2 before this!!! I remember some kids on the floor kept telling Jordan to take it through his legs. That was the first time I had seen that dunk.. He dunked a few more times after he spoke...I remember my brother kept saying " I can't believe we're this close"!!! We was behind the goal they was dunking in!!!
But that was in 89
I meant 89, flip the numbers around
Thanks for sharing this gem! The way MJ soars through the air is so graceful. He was truly an artist on the basketball court 🐐
Big respect to the camera man for giving this great footage with only a potato🥔
This was the summer of '89 and it was a Nike sponsored event in Birmingham. I think it was in conjunction with Just For Feet... a now defunct shoe retailer headquartered in B'ham. It was free so the arena was packed. Counting standees it was close to 10K in an 8500 seat UAB arena. Along with Jordan was Derrick McKey (tallest guy) who played at Alabama followed by a long NBA career (most notably with Seattle)...white guy is Jim Farmer, who also played at Alabama and bounced around NBA and overseas...third guy I am not sure, but I think it is a former UAB player. Fun times back in the day!
In 1989 this video quality was 4k.
Only few can dunk from free throw line. But only Michael can dunk it with such perfect and graceful posture .
The Greatest and Mist Exciting Basketball Player Ever! MICHAEL “AIR” JORDAN

I was there that night. If I remember correctly he was doing a promotional tour and was at 'Just For Feet'. The other players were top high school players from Alabama. He also did a 3 point contest in which he nailed most of them using his left hand.

Multiple dunks from free throw line with ease. GOAT.
Jordan was never scared to play any game or enter any dunk contest the goat
The GOAT
Last I checked he only competed in about 3 or 4 and stole one from Dominique (who clearly beat him).
@@bgood4449 stop with the hate. How many did LeBron compete in??
@@bgood4449 Opinion, man. Dominique was amazing, powerful, and the best dunker not name Jordan. Jordan just has a grace that can't be matched, and that's worth something too. In the end, we were treated to quite a show by two of the best. Whoever you had winning, they were both amazing, so why can't that be the narrative?
@jermo1213 why is lebron being mentioned?
Those free-throw line dunks slowed down to quarter speed are unreal.
The ultra rare Jordan 360 dunk. Not sure if I’ve ever seen MJ do one before...
That 360 dunk looks too simple. But most great dunkers won't be able to do that. Maybe 99% of them can't. Type of dunk only Dr.J and MJ can do.
@@leodesilva7638 that's because 360 Dunks weren't popular back then.. guys like Vince Carter and Jason Richardson made it mainstream suddenly everyone in the hood wanted to do a 360 dunk

Just wished MJ did more 360's. His hangtime was just too good not to do it more.
Exactly!
it seems like his body type had difficulty with 360s for some reason, he couldnt spin as much but his poses in midair were like a painting
@@editname8536 Idk I used to think that. There's a video on RUclips that shows a compilation of his 360s. They were good.
I recall MJ saying he didn’t do more 360’s because he felt they were too basic of a dunk. He preferred dunks that showed aerial artistry and hangtime more.
@@tustari Yep plus he said 360s were more of Dominique's dunks.

Love the way Jordan walks
I feel so bad for all the kids that never got to experience what it was like to love basketball during Jordan’s best years. It’s like being in the room when Jesus invented dunking and pizza on the same day.
+Nat Paul Jordan is massively overrated. The hype is what the media and companies that took advantage of branding him did to make him larger than life like a movie star.
@@joshuafult84 Being a star has little to do with being overrated as a player. He was the best NBA player for years, I was a basketball fan between the late 80s and the late 90s. Jordan was extraordinary.
@@joshuafult84 Sir please, save us from sucha stupid, jealous, ignorant people.Mj saved the NBA and when he retired people around the World stopped watching...so overrated was he.you sir don't deserve to be call basketball fan
Joshua Fult tell that to his 6 rings and 6 finals MVPs
Joshua Fult is a Lebum James fan
Who snuck the camera in and got us this legendary footage though ?! The real MVP
So obvious to tell which one is jordan. Amazing
I have been watching Jordan my entire life and I think the 5:19 mark at this video puts all to bed that his vertical leap was increased with his legend. I even started to believe until I saw this video. I always wondered how high he could get with full rest not like in a game or contest just showing off kind of. This isn’t a low angle this was recorded from above in a nosebleed seat so that puts to bed the fans that keep claiming low angle. Also when he finishes these dunks his head is still near the rim which makes it impossible that he wouldn’t be over the rim because on a free throw line dunk you will be at apex around the dotted line not at the finish. He clearly jumped over 48 inches here with the run up.
that's a 1-foot take off with a run-up. Vertical leap is measured with a standing 2-foot jump. Different biomechanics. Not saying I disagree or agree with whatever the claims are, just that this doesn't support any such claims in any way. Just very athletic and impressive.
Respect for your comment as well. NBA has changed the rules a bit. Some Teams allow a 15 foot approach during the Vertical Jump Test so your allowed to use 1-Foot. I agree his standing Vertical would be much less than running with 1-foot. I believe NFL is still using the two-foot standing Vertical Test you mentioned. It really should be changed in my opinion for all sports. Most of these sports your allowed to run so why not test your Max Vertical while running. All athletes whether 1 foot or 2 foot jumpers will get higher Max Verticals when running because it is derived from momentum. Still respect the comment. However my claim never limited MJ to a standing Vertical. My comment said with the “Run Up”
@@mumf30 it doesn't matter what people say at 5.19 his head is above the rim - people who disagree or say all this different tests points should describe how Jordan got up there at 5.19 ,looks like a 49 vertical to me
Jordan got more explosive in 89 because he started training with Tim grover i read that years ago and if you look at him from being a rookie til around this time and 91 he was super explosive with more muscle
High angle from behind the object (basket in this case) is the same as low nagle from the other side if you dont belive me, take 2 objects and manipulate them in front of your phone camera...so no, his head isn't at the rim, but still a good jump;)
His airness and his elegant is so smooth but when it need to throw it down its still so powerful.
Also in the footage: MJ shooting left handed threes :)
Crowds were better in the 80’s/90’s because people were less egotistical
Nobody got the head sunk on a smartphone
we were?
Nice unseen basketball video of Michael Jordan soaring to the basket. Very nice.
I think the hardest part with the dunk is knowing exactly where your foot will be planted when taking off, difficult timing when you're running full speed. MJ took off a half foot past the free throw line but had plenty extra, so much extra he could've taken off a half foot behind the line and made that dunk.
The second free throw line attempt he is behind it - not the first time - but the second he’s actually at the line and not past it with his foot into it at all.
There were two lines, one the free throw line and the other the volleyball line. MJ had extra and could've taken off a half-foot back. I want to see someone his height match that dunk some day, it hasn't happened.
Thanks for the footage.
5:17
That was better than his All Star ft line dunks!!
Even more effortless, with a more casual approach and absolutely spot on the line!!
9:52 Those were the good old days when the arena announcer says your name and tells the whole stadium you left your car lights on right b4 MJ takes flight ! 😊❤❤❤😂

Jordan can really fly 🔥
Wow..I came to the United States in the late 80's and even in my native country every kid wanted to be like Jordan. He was and international superstar as a basketball player.
He could dunk from further than free throw line as it looks so effortless, like a warmup...

I thought he was gonna try to Eastbay 😭
I hope you feel better soon 🙌🏼
Greatest athlete of all time
5:19; 7:32
Thanks so much for this stuff!!
His whole foot is in front of the FT line, but he did it effortlessly, even double clutching and dunking it over the side of the rim instead of the front.
On the first dunk, but then he dunked twice leaving behind the line. The third one, I know his foot didn’t touch the line.
His foot is over the free line. Its behind another line, but that isn't the free throw line. It's so fast that I had to watch at 0.5 speed to be sure.
Tbh all three dunks in this video were made not from the ft line but at least one foot over it towards the board.
There’s so many people there at this event, there must be others taking footages of this
You can tell who's MJ just by the way he walks.
You can tell who's MJ because he is the perfect size for the little Jordan logo with extended limbs
The most badass walk on the planet

He also has that glow of intensity that surrounds him.

This is one of those moments that people would never believe it. That kid has been telling that story, possibly for 30+ years, that he was MJ’s marker for a free throw dunk in Alabama…”yeah right kid”. He has been validated!
1989 thru 1991 MJ was a complete raw beast!!
You couldn't see faced but you knew who MJ was. He just moved different, dunked different with amazing explosion.
Jordan's game is so dazzling. If you been in gym you can say you never seen a dude hoop like him.
