The concept of eternal suffering is the most incompatible with the benevolence and mercy of God. Very difficult to embrace. Unless there's always a chance for the soul to deeply repent and then be saved instantly, being taken out of the void.
There are hundreds of examples of people escaping Hell after clinical death. I believe it's freely chosen in large part due to shameful things done during life that one thought was secret but actually becomes public knowledge within the heavenly community once stepping into the light. Some can't handle it. God gives everyone free will, and we gravitate to the "group" of souls that are just like us after death. Thought transference is the mode of communication after death, there is no lying, there is no more mask that some people wear. I believe shame is like a weight that weighs down a soul. Some prefer the shadows of the darkness to the light. Just my opinion.
Pretty frightening if true, to be floating out in between galactic voids. Separated from all life and other beings, floating by yourself for the expanse of all eternity only to think and reflect on what one has done -forever.
