- Hi everyone, this video will show you how we built our awesome backyard hockey shooting pad.
Keep watching for a quick time lapse video of the build and check out the other videos in the series to get a more detailed explanation of each major phase of the project and an in depth review of the training materials used.
We're not professionals so this is a DIY project and I'm sure there are things we could have done better.
Hope this is helpful for your project.
Enjoy!
Coach Simon
Awesome build! What a way to bond with the boys. Ive got three, playing with two of them. Atb from Sweden.
Very impressed by this especially for a diy this is AMAZING I love and keep going.😁😁
Nice work i might do something like this for my hockey backyard odr
This is so amazing!
As a professional contractor, all I have to say is👍🏼…. My only recommendation is to make sure that the base has a small slope for water to runoff, and I wouldn’t be opposed to installing a waterproof membrane/ ice and water shield under the white floor
Hi there, I'll certainly take that as a compliment. I am certainly NOT a professional but did quite a bit of research. You're right on the water shield. At some point, we had to cut off the expenses and for its purpose, there's only so much I was willing to invest. Thanks for the feedback and tip, totally agree.
@@coachsimon4472 i completely understand … fantastic project !
I love the mesh walls. Metal wire mesh ?
My family has 3 carpenters. This is better than my vision plan
Custom netting ordered online. Details are included in one of the videos in the series. Fantastic product and fit perfectly.
Nice. A green carpet and another net and you could have a driving range and a batting cage.
That's awesome
It seems like your should have a lot more subscribers than you have!! :D
you earned my sub!
mine too.
Wouaa la grande classe
This is Awesome, thanks for sharing. We are looking to do something similar in our backyard for our kids. Great Idea with the netting surround. I'd love to know where you got the net and what material did you use for the floor?
Sorry for the very late reply, I purchased the net from: www.mybackyardicerink.com/.
Here are the specs:
- Type: N-225B (black)
- Dimensions:
- Piece 1 (sides and top) - 367 inches x 96 inches
- Piece 2 (back) - 115 inches x 137 inches
Great video and design. Curious now it's almost a couple years in, did you end up adding a border to prevent pucks from sliding off?
I would highly recommend a higher border than what we used. I would go 6" all-round.
Great work. What are the dimensions and any reasons why you chose that size? Already planning my own based on yours!
Check out part 2 of the video series for full dimensions and details on planning/design of the project: ruclips.net/video/sVswZe--KG0/видео.html
Cool! What did you use for the netting for the back stop?
I ordered a custom net from www.mybackyardicerink.com/. Just give them your dimensions and they'll fabricate it.

Looks good. How much were you all in on materials for this build?
Hi Shan, sorry for the delay in responding. Total was ~$3K (50/50 building vs. training materials).
Just checking in to see how the shooting tiles have stood up over the last few years.
Im wondering too
We eventually ended up getting rid of the pad to make room for a backyard renovation. I’m sure the tiles would have held up as long as they are cleaned and polished once or twice a year.
As fate would have it, the buyer of the shooting pad sent me a video of the pad still in use. No issues.
How Big was the platform you made? And amazing video👍
Thanks for the feedback, the platform size was 21'6" x 11'.
what do you do in the winter
Simply brush off the snow and keep practicing. It was built to be four seasons.
@@coachsimon4472Very cool!…we live in Minnesota, and I have shooting tiles set up in our basement, but the space really isn’t that good. Will the shooting tiles handle the winter climate?
Can you skate on it?
No. The tiles we installed are not synthetic ice. We could have opted for tiles to skate on but chose not to. They are more expensive and put more wear and tear on skate blades. You'll be sharpening skate blades much more often on synthetic ice.
@@coachsimon4472 its only about 15% more wear than regular ice. its not as bad as people make it out to be. most people claim its impossible to skate on just after 1 session. this is wrong. if you skate 10 hours per sharpen, you can now skate 8 hours per sharpen for synthetic according to all company standards who sell synthetic ice.
@@chrismcallister3495not to mention who wouldn’t want to be able to skate in the off season. Plus if people can afford synthetic then they are more than likely able to afford the sparx sharpener lol
