Hi Kyle, could you do a series on setting the phase on the Helix DSP Pro Mk2 when running an active speaker setup. I'd really like to know what and why of this setting.
That's going by what rew is saying the db is for the speaker being measured. The tweeters are hat l1 pros and the mids are hat l6se's. Sensitivity according to the manuals are 93.5 db on the tweeters and 92.5 on the mids. Hybrid recommends high crossovers on the tweeters in the 6k range. Probably the gain isn't set right on the alpine pdx5 they are running off of.
How are you getting such flat response curves with 1/12 smoothing?? My RTA curves look like the peaks and vally's of Kiliamanjaro...Your video's got me hooked on trying REW but really stumbling with interpreting results. I'm kinda forced to use 1/6 smoothing.
so if you are centering the stage in the middle instead of driver/passenger orientation, do I have to wave the mic around the middle instead of where I'm sittng?
thanks for answering me. I have the Alpine spr-10tw tweeters I set them to 3kHz @12dB linkwitz , when I play Future- Lowlife the female voice in the beginning is sounding raspy or harsh, just wondering if the crossover is set too low or do I need to cut some frequencies?
Before eqing or tuning. Set all gains so tweeters, mids and sub are at the same level? With REW I measured my tweets and mids selerately and in pairs my tweeters were around 90db my mids measured around 108db. I haven't measured my sub yet.
Russ Greer That sounds like your gains are off on the amps, unless your mids are about 20db more efficient than your tweeters. Re-check where your gains are set, ad how you set them. Also, what are you using to measure the SPL level?
Russ Greer The sub should be about 10-12 db higher (to about 50hz) then roll off into the mids, then level off to about 3k or so, then the tweeters should pick up from there and start rolling off. so the tweeters should start at about the same output level as the mids, but then roll off on their own
Thank Kyle for these informative videos. I'm really enjoying them. Question. How noticeable is it before and after doing a tune like what you have done in your videos? Did it really bring your stereo to the next level? Also, I was told by Andy of Audiofrog to set my mids at 2khz because beaming occurs at that point on a 6.5. Can I play them higher than that?
Jason T I suggest going to a sq competition. The guys there are always super nice and they'll let give you a demo. The difference tuning can make is unbelievable. I tried tuning myself, and it always sounds ok but having a professional takes it to a whole other lever.

What about rear speakers ? do you have to level match them individually with front speakers ? or it does not matter and just keep them for back fill ?

Russ Greer If you're using REW, take an RTA measurement of each one, and see what they look like under the "All SPL" tab.
how do you connect the laptop to your DSP? is it via aux split to rca, from laptop direct to the DSP ?

You can always use 1/6 or 1/3 to smooth, then fine tune with 1/6 or 1/12

Yes, I would. You move it around to minimize frequency reflections which can give you skewed results.

@@gabrielr6679 you need to eq down 1khz to 3khz range , also reduce on tweeter level as -3db or -5db
Does your method of eq-ing work with passive crossover setups?
This whole series is awesome. Thank you!

when level matching say sub mids and tweeters what are you shooting for all to be about the same db wise or tweets a few db down from the mids or ?

Which software you did use for the analysis?
REW, Room EQ Wizard
Is there more tuning videos coming?
jorgubb hansen yes, there will be soon. Anything in particular you are looking for?
Kyle Ragsdale Maybe a video speaker placement, and what to look for when buying new speakers.
Kyle Ragsdale I'm pretty new to this, so some tips and tricks for those starting out in this game.
