We were of the first wave from our original Nobel going into “chells school” Without seeing it now ,I remember it as this, but they did do a blue music hall as we left
Fantastic find. I was at Chells when the film was made. Left there in 1980. Recently returned in 2016 to do some training to the staff and sadly not much of the original school layout remains!!! Although the footage is rough, still brought back nice memories. thanks for upload.. wish there were more cine films from this era!
I am so glad this brought back some memories which those at Chells School in the 1970s would recognise. I am only sorry that such footgage is probably very rare...Ozzie.
Nice film. Although I didnt go to this school, I was however at the Lodge Farm Infants and Junior school nextdoor! I left Lodge Farm in 1971 and went to Alleynes!!!
great to see my old school, i left in 1970, but its still basically the same, just another block added. Rees and Derook were there in the sixties. great piece of chells school history
Chells School did not become Nobel School. Chells closed in July 1983 (having wound down its numbers during the closure process with Bedwell School taking the pupils over). Then Nobel School transferred for September 1983 from its previous buildings into the former Chells site on Mobbsbury Way, where it is still.
sadly that goes for a few former schools that in Stevenage in the last few years that have been demolished or rebuilt or merged with former secondry schools
No that was filmed at Bedwell Secondry School as my sister was there at the time and she told me about it and in the film you can see the bedwell entrance at Telford Avenue entrance too and i recognised the uniform but i think the boys changing rooms were filmed at the Nobel School as well !
@@gemini802 Correct. The scene in the boys' changing rooms was filmed in June 1967 at the (then) Nobel building in Telford Avenue (now a housing estate).
It says Chells 1977 in the title,...the Nobel thing obviously refers to a the later re-naming. What does it matter? One year difference from over 40 years ago. If the grammar and date police put as much effort into finding old film as they do trying to be smart arses with nothing better to say on the internet...we would have all the film it takes to know all there is to know about this school and many others...without the pedant's commentry!

Very nostalgic. Left here in 1978.
I lived on Mobbsbury Way, just across the street from the school and played casual pick-up soccer on the school field from 1963-66
Oh, and thanks to Mr Mitchel, and Mr Rees, for the sensitive approach to kids from less than ideal backgrounds. This made a difference.

Chells School closed in the summer of 1983 and Nobel immediately took over the site, opening there in September 1983.

wow just left school this week and i can remember the school looking like this before it got done up.

Thanks for the addendum...though I would not suggest this as a way of life.
My old school, All now rebuilt & mostly unrecognizable.
sadly that goes for a few former schools that in Stevenage in the last few years that have been demolished or rebuilt or merged with former secondry schools
wow very similar to my old school Bedwell Secondry that was same uniform too and year that I left!
I think they filmed Here we go round the mulberry Bush there a few years before at this school.

If this is Nobel in 1977 why was it filmed in1978
Dr.Who did the filming.
