If you also play classical guitar you will float the hand, tougher to start with but pays dividends in the end, obviously no use to this instant gratification generation. 😁
It does depend on what sound people are after. If you're using heavy distortion you might want more control and to use palm muting, not just for rhythm but for Di Meola style staccato picked lines. That's the great thing about guitar - so many different ways to approach it!

Most of us aren't Jason Becker.
I noticed that about Jason, he even swept like that, which i cannot do...can't mute when sweeping with wrist rotation.
@@jfo3000 in fact everybody has to find their own technique. Gutrie Govan plays like jason too.
just watched a becker video. He has small sweep with his wrist but much less than most. He also anchors his pinky
