True, but Rita still needs to learn the basics like -- don't kick and bite people, trailer loading (especially in emergency), let farriers groom her hooves; let veterinarian give her meds. and shots, fix her teeth, examine her (including the belly and legs).

Actually figured Lester would be the first to get hurt.. He takes too many chances with no knowledge.. So many horses end up in the slaughter line from uneducated people and have made or encouraged their horses to be dangerous.. I have had horses and worked horse farms, competed worked at show barns with 16 stallions, you learn real quick.for over 40 years.. I have seen a lot..And made a lot of mistakes over the years and learned from them, thankfully with no serious injuries..Never would have put up with this, Lester get over yourself, you are not the "Pied Piper"......Lester this is your job and responsibility.. Absolutely agree with you! His ignorance about horses is unreal. With all the people with horse experience on his channel and especially Rick offering his expertise, and Lester won't listen. Even Courtney and the farriers train. So he has alot around him he could learn so much. I don't understand why he wouldn't take advantage of that, especially when someone can get seriously hurt or killed. You would think what happened to Jami would open his eyes to the danger and how important it is to train and have a good foundation with younger horses. He thinks food and love is all you need a couple times a week. 🤦‍♀️ I know from experience, you have to put in time to train a horse.

Many commenters on his videos agree with Lester: Just give the horse a lot of cookies and love and she’ll become loving and respectful of you…..or, hey, I don’t like it if someone interrupts me when I am eating either, so it is OK for her to tell you to go away. It doesn’t matter what you, a human, thinks, only what the horse thinks. Horses and people think and react differently from each other. The loser in this situation will be the horse if this continues. She might get passed around from owner to owner who think the way Lester does and eventually end up losing her life. She will be labeled as a very dangerous horse when she actually is just a very poorly trained horse. People can easily ruin a horse for life.

The biggest, most important thing, psychologically, that in my opinion Lester needs to get down into his mind and Know, is that most horses NEED a leader, boundries, respect for the leader, in order to be HAPPY and content! I remember years ago, Rick, you saying that most horses don't want to be the leader. They could never really relax, and isn't that what a horse usually looks for, contentment, comfort. Well, a lead stallion in a herd probably rarely can completely relax. I think that's what you said, Rick. And it rings true to me. But, my point is, that Lesters mindset..his belief that being "kind" in this way is in Actuality causing Rita to be uncomfortable, having to make all the decisions, to have all the responsibility Versus feeling comfortable and Secure with a leader she can Trust! Making her a happier horse who feels secure and more content, comfortable in her environment. Lester is in Actuality doing the opposite for this horse than what he thinks he is, and it's frustrating as hell to watch him stubbornly hold to his beliefs while seemingly refusing to open his mind and THINK. Moving her feet does NOT mean "beating" a horse. So, again, and I'm sorry for making this into a novel, but my point is, Lester is actually doing to her what he insists he won't do....and that is hurting her. Oh, it's so frustrating! Rick, I agree with every word you're trying to get across here. Your dedication to education and helping horses via their humans is more than admirable, and I for one appreciate it very much! I agree 100% Rick. You would think with what happened to Jami they would change their outlook on this situation. Its really awful someone would put their pride over safety for his loved ones and others and even for Rita. He's not giving her her best life like he claims. And he uses as he calls it a spanky stick on the other animals, but claiming its gruel for horses. I dont agree with hurting horses to train them and neither are you or the watchers, so why he keeps saying that is crazy. I do believe he's keeping Rita like this, half for views and the other half ego. Thats a poor excuse that he's a rescue not a horse trainer. So maybe he needs to give her to someone that will really take care of her. Because before long, he's going to have to quarantine her to a pasture alone, with very little human interaction because she will be too violent to interact with. Then whats going to be the excuse? I feel sad for Rita and anyone that gets hurt by her. And that all Lesters fault.

Oh my gosh, Lester is creating a monster. My friend bought a horse from a rescue. They say they train their horses. Well the horse she bought had food aggression issues. It was so bad her husband would not go in and clean up the poop so He rigged up a pole attached to the poop break so he could clean the poop from outside the stall. My friend had surgery so I was asked if I would work with her. It did not take too long. But because she had been doing it for so long, it took about a month before. She actually stopped pinning her ears and coming after me. She became a great horse and I even rode her on trail. I'm not saying that all rescue's don't train their horses. I know some that train their horses very well. And they train the person who's buying the horse. But Lester really needs to get on her. But I don't think it's an appropriate thing to do on social media because there's too many people that are cry babies. But he does need to get on her. Or He's going to have to get somebody like me. Go in there and correct that immediately. Lol

I would have thought he'd be more determined to train her manners after Jami got hurt but I don't think he will ever get it. He said Uriel has done two lessons with her..one was to lay her down. Uriel seems to have more respect from Rita because he was among all the horses in the paddock and he did just fine. I pray that he sees the light before something worse happens. Unfortunately he could lose everything including someone's life and only because he allows the behavior. It's just common sense and so easy at this point to fix. It's one of the things that frustrate me. I love him and Jami very much but something very bad will have to happen for him to wake up. It wasn't Jami getting injured. I agree 100% with your review of this video. I'm not knocking on Lester I just don't want another tragedy.

Your critique of Lester`s video is right on the money! We have had the experience of a friend & ourselves being herded by our farm sire! Thankfully Joe & I were able to escape by passing through the fence & walking around to the farm front gates. Joe said we have to stop this! I said you`re 1.5" taller than I am any ideas? He said yes I know of a tractor with wide front tires that`s light & will float on top of the farms, (in winter, rainy season) wet & boggy ground. He & I were able to pickup tractor, (old 1952 8N). After doing some work on it so that it would operate dependably, the 1st time the sire would not cooperate coming in for shelter from upcoming heavy winds & cold rains, we used the tractor to HERD him. It required 4 hours in high gear to tire him out enough so he would allow his herd with young stock to come into barn for shelter. Yes the horse is taught to ride! We use a bit-less bridle on him & is a very good riding horse with a ground covering stride even at a walk. He is of the Seattle Slew line of thoroughbreds. Most challenging horse we have ever taught to ride in 40 years! Now when ever he hears or sees the tractor startup he knows to come into the barn for the shelter of his herd. Another technique we have unintentionally used is having him come into barn after a cold rain change that has him shivering from the cold. We don`t like doing that though as we prefer top keep watch on weather changes & avoid our farms horses suffering to much from the heavy cold rains for which the NW is known for.

You can explain the situation 50 times in 50 different ways but SOME people will not, or cannot, understand they ARE CAUSING THE BEHAVIOR.
If you want to change the behavior you have to change WHAT YOU DO AND HOW YOU RESPOND, the horse is NOT GOING TO CHANGE UNTIL *YOU* CHANGE your approach.
If you have a dog that bites your kids are you "not going to impose your will on them?" Of course not. You will either correct the behavior or get rid of the dog. The same rules apply here. When Rita kicks the wrong person Ima Survivor will be nothing but a memory and the animals will be the property of animal control.

Lester doesn’t understand about teaching boundaries. I’ve said this a hundred times and he’s said I’m mean. I have no doubt that he loves those animals. I love my kids and they learned boundaries. All that it took was one look from me and they understood. Animals (horses, dogs, etc.) are no different. I currently have a service dog (he’s a medical alert dog, his job is to alert to a seizure before it happens. He has no other job). Here’s the “unique” thing about Samson (my service dog), he’s a 7 pound chihuahua. People think that chihuahuas are yappy, bitty, ankle biters until they meet him. Most people don’t even realize that that he’s with me because he doesn’t make a sound. He doesn’t fit what people think little dogs are like because he has manners. He’s also one of the most loving little dogs on the planet. Rita is no different than my kids or dogs. She needs manners. Lester refuses to hear the truth. JMHO

My mini kicked me while I cleaned his feet. I finished that foot and one more then I quit, I hurt alot. But I made him sit still and finish that side.

I had to unsub from Lester and Jami, their lame excuses for this horse is insane. Will he still say he rescues not train when Rita kills one of them, there's a 2yo little boy who gets around quite well on his own and he's fast, not to mention all the little ones on Morrow hill who he has an obligation to protect from this horse who they have made very dangerous. I guess almost ending Jami's life was not enough, anything for views.

I left his channels as well. He's bought all those properties and I honestly believe he does these videos for views so he can pay for those properties even if Jami was so close to being killed. He's ruining a beautiful horse and killing his reputation as a 'sanctuary '.

Agree. I unsubscribed as well… way too many animal deaths there d/t his carelessness. I’m not sure if it’s ignorance or greed for $$$ but I could not take it any longer…

Thank you Rick for this video. I hope it helps Lester, but his stubborness on this issue is blinding him.

I hope Lester thinks about this with an open mind. Correcting is not being a horse abuser. But once a horse knows it can do this, yes, more enforcement is needed. Just like a natural herd. It's just the way horses are. Lester is a good guy and so is Rick.
