Should also mention that the ending of FMB transitions into this album too. Have fun with these! 🍻 Edit: I just remembered this album was made during the beginning of Covid and I’m pretty sure the band recorded everything remotely and sent it all to Stu for him to assemble digitally. Super impressive knowing that and then hearing the results
Finally! KGLW is a leap forward compared to FMB. It has so many tracks I love! LW in particular. I can't wait till you reach Static Electricity, Pleura, and Supreme Ascendency 🦎🦎🦎
KGLW is actually 2 tracks, it bookends the LW album. That one is way longer and sludgier. This album fucks so hard, I'm so excited for you to get through this one 🤤 and you're right about the way they were written. Meaning, FMB is a rock album that uses microtones, while KGLW lean more into the eastern sound and folkier tunes. Also for the record, I don't know what microtonal guitars actually get tuned to. I'm sure you can tune it to whatever you want. But what you refer to as the microtonal "tuning" is just how there are quarter tones available on the fretboard. There are steps between half steps, that's what microtones are. So when you thought it sounded almost out of tune, that's because our western ears weren't brought up listening to those sounds! PS seriously consider Minimum Brain Size live from Chicago '23!!!
They explored a lot more in KG and LW than they did in FMB indeed, not only in the "more mature" sound but in the genres explored, you'll get a few surprises on this 2 records, and there's a reason why KGLW is a unique song, you'll know soon...
Hey man love these videos and watching you on your gizz journey. I know a lot of people are reccommending live versions. But id actually say try stick to the album tracks and videos. Theres a lot more differing production on the individual songs throughout that you'll miss by going to the lives. By all means ill watch you watch both. But the microtonal stuff live can all semi sound similar whereas theres so much more nuance to be heard on the actual album. Keep rockin my man. Also love your jump scares. Hopin for one with this album.
Yeah I think there are live versions worth checking out, like Straws in the Wind which is totally different live, but always listen to the album versions first
Love taking this journey with you my man. KG and LW are really great albums in their discography. I do agree with another commenter about sticking to the album versions of everything. Horns sir.
whenever you are done listening to k.g. and l.w. listen to the demo for automation, infest the rats nest came right before these 2 albums so automation was originally meant for infest the rats nest, and the demo shows that. this demo is basically a full unreleased song
The genius of these two albums is that they were written and recorded during COVID. The band members didn't see each other but recorded, emailed and mixed the songs while locked down in their suburban homes.
I think they still might ride a rift on an individual song on these two albums. But while most of the songs on FMB were all similar to each other, there is more variation from song to song on KG and LW, at least in my opinion. Excited for the rest of them! :)
When you get to Straws in the Wind there are at least four good live versions on YT. My personal favorite is 2022 Red Rocks, b/c there was a lot of anticipation in the crowd b/c everyone bought their tickets in 2019, the drums really pop and it sounds like Ambrose is singing through some type of filter. I would be curious to see what live version of Straws in the Wind other fans like the best.
Fun fact, the lyrics for Automation originally appeared in a song on their demos album also called Automation. Unlike the Automation on KG, it's fast and thrash metal-y. It sounds like a mix of PDA and Infest the Rat's Nest, and I guess they decided not to keep the song but wanted to re-use the lyrics in a microtonal song on KG. ruclips.net/video/HlPUTjznlV4/видео.html
Hearing the way they recorded KG and LW made me want them to re-record FMB as they play those songs today, with more fidelity. The way they continually tweak their songs is something
If you go to their website (I'd link the exact page but, youtube, their homepage slash automation), you can get the stems for this tune and the video to remix and make your own version of it! I prefer these 2 albums to FMB personally, they expanded on the microtones a good bit more. Cya on the Minimum Brain Size vid bro!
just incase you're interested in exploring any more microtonal stuff after the king gizzard microtonal stuff, i would suggest checking out Drum'n'Space by Zia (Elaine Walker), as well as, for a more rock heavy experience, I would suggest cheking out some of Brendan Byrnes's albums, and the last artist I would realy suggest checking out would have to be 𝙁𝘼𝙎𝙏𝙁𝘼𝙎𝙏. love the king gizzard reactions!
They definitely got better at the whole microtonal thing after FMB. K.G. and L.W. also sound a lot less muddy than FMB to me, but still kinda lo-fi. Theres some music videos for 4 of the tracks, make sure to check those out! The next track is one of Joey's songs, he gets 2 songs on this record. Its a pretty good song, I think you'll like it!
About the tuning being more pronounced: you're not crazy. With FMB, they didn't have as many microtonal instruments built and so most of the instruments used were just modified 'normal' ones. The bass player talks about how he used a bass with temporary stick-on frets that they'd applied rudimentarily for FMB, but the band got a few more custom-made guitars for KG + LW.
The album cover was actually physically made. It was an actual sculpture they auctioned off to Charity. They’re true artists in almost every sense.
they actioned it off??
It will make sense why KGLW is it's own song by the time you are finished with both albums.
^^^ This.
Keep that leitmotif in mind.
@@acidhydra101 ahhh Leitmotif nice vocabulary there if ykyk

When you get to "Intrasport" (which you'll definitely love), watch the video, too. It's one of those where the video makes the song better, you know?
Finally! KGLW is a leap forward compared to FMB. It has so many tracks I love! LW in particular.
I can't wait till you reach Static Electricity, Pleura, and Supreme Ascendency 🦎🦎🦎
Automation is great live too. Glad you're getting to these albums.
A buddy of mine sends me their songs all the time & I’ve never gotten around to listening to any of them so here goes 🤷🏼♂️😉

LISTEN TO THE DEMO FOR AUTOMATION PLEASEEEEEEE
I can't wait till you get to Ontology, it's like a wacky middle eastern jam that is just awesome, but way too short.
It makes me so happy to revisit this wonderful album with all the fellow gizz heads eager to share their favorite music

Yup, FMB was all set to one range of notes whereas KG and LW were free range no limitations.
The opening track to LW is one my top 5 songs of all time. Every time I hear it. I get chills
@@lovablemonty I feel the same with Pleura, god I can't wait till he gets to LW

others in the comments already said it, but you have to check out the demo for automation. its actually fucking nuts

the lyrics on Automation are so of my favoitites

As for how the tracks are split...you'll see why later
I swear k.g is the notes to “glory to the newborn king hark did the Harold sing”
KGLW is 2 tracks the second is on the LW album and is my preferred but both are great
Hearing the way they recorded KG and LW made me want them to re-record FMB as they play those songs today, with more fidelity. The way they continually tweak their songs is something

This album has a big Hawkwind sound to it.
