      What a great and inspiring video! I’m absolutely hooked on track school (as distinguished from commercially operated track days, which can be frustratingly dangerous, or at least seem so). Your comment about billionaires becoming millionaires is hilarious and not far fetched. However, some folks who are similarly addicted make it their main hobby, eventually developing a set-up (usually beginning with a track bike and trailer and often progressing to a toy hauler or an RV and enclosed trailer), sometimes getting into amateur racing and/or additional activities such as Supermoto. Your background as a scientist is interesting because many school attendees are intellectually driven, often working as engineers, pilots, or in other professions that involve intellectual challenge. For me, the combination of seemingly endless details regarding bike dynamics, cornering technique, and throttle and brake control, with the development of physical skills, coordination, and heightened awareness of your slightest pressure and movement on the motorcycle are fascinating, challenging, physically exhausting, and just incredibly fun. I hope you find a way to continue to explore the art of riding on track. Thank you for the fun video!

    I've been on the track 3 times. I made that a priority shortly after getting my new ZX10. I don't think there's enough GOOD things I can say about going out there and being able to push your bike to the limit. You get so much clarity on where the limits ACTUALLY are because it's a safe environment.

    This was such an encouraging video. My greatest takeaway I think is the spill over effect into other areas of our lives. If you face a scary situation and overcome it in one area (tacking track days) it gives you confidence when facing fears in other parts of your life as well. That was worth the price of admission!! Thank you for taking the time Lali to make great videos!

    I have watched a few of your videos and have appreciated that you do not cross your own personal boundaries when it comes to feeling safe. I have had many friends that bought bikes and start racing around and are riding way beyond their skill level. So it is good that you are learning and becoming familiar with your bike at your own pace.

    Thank you for wearing my number. You made me proud. While I myself have not done a track day. I do think the best way is with an instructor because you’ll develop good habits to be fast but also safe. You’re not pushing the limits. You’re just developing good habits. I’m the same way with seeing the bad scenarios in my head and that holding me back. Just in different ways. I do push pretty hard, to the point of saying to myself that was stupid I shouldn’t do that again. But I also don’t take risks if I know I can achieve it playing safe. So it’s like doing something that feels cool not scary. Where I should just take that full step and actually develop the skill even if it’s scary. I think it started because I grew up skateboarding most of my life and injured myself when I was young. So the older I got the less risk I took because I knew how something could go bad and let that take away something I really enjoyed to the point I no longer skateboard because I got in my own head too much

  • @2WheelsSometimes1
    @2WheelsSometimes1 Год назад +1

    I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS FREE FOR YOU!!! I have the same issue with worst case scenario. But I don't let that stop me from riding at the track, and everyday. EVER! Great video, this will help and inspire a lot of people.
    Nearly everything you learn and practice at trackdays transfers onto the street. So keep doing trackdays, and practicing those skills on the street. #1 Be comfortable. You cannot ride safely, at pace, confidently, smoothly, if you are not comfortable. Find body positions that you're comfortable with. You may be surprised at how little you need to move off/around the bike. Johnathan Rae is a great example of this. #2 Be smooth. This is only second to comfort, because it's nearly as important. Smooth roll ons, roll offs, applying the brakes, releasing the brakes (probably the more difficult one), transitioning on the bike to learning how to load the tires. #3 Break through your mental wall. You will constantly reach your limits, and need to break through them. You just need to decide whether you're comfortable with that pace and that's it. Or you want more and you actually need to go beyond your limits to expand them. Think of new/different ways to grow and try techniques. Enter a little bit fast, brake a little later, roll on the throttle a little bit sooner/faster. Also learning when to sacrifice some speed in one area to gain in another.
    Comfortable, Smooth, Breakthrough.
    I don't know what they teach you in the course. But grab a bike tire, just the tire. Hold it lightly and lean it over gradually and bump it at the same time. See when it slips out from under you. Add more pressure and do the same thing. The more you load the tire, the more force it can take, and changes it can handle. This also works in reverse if you let go of the brake quickly and unload the front tire. You lose all that traction and slide.

    Congrats on doing it! Hey, when I started riding there was no such thing, so it took me a lot longer than 8 years! I chose to do a CA Superbike School 2-day, so it wasn't cheap, but damn was it worth it! I met Mr. Parks at one of the motorcycle safety days that was put on at Joint Base Andrews, where I work (contractor, not military), will have to pick up his book (he didn't publish it until some time after that safety day, which was mostly a lot of vendors for various things, couple with a group ride which I didn't do, I just stopped by on my lunch break). One of the items from the school I did was the video bike; they have you do two laps each day on it, and after the school you get a flash drive with your video laps on it. Watching it later I couldn't help but think how I could have been going faster in so many places but I thought I was doing my best at the time I did the laps! Best lap I had was the last session I went out on. Didn't think to check the tires though, I know I've never gotten the ones on my bike looking like yours did!

  • @heylookeveryoneitsjeff
    @heylookeveryoneitsjeff Год назад +1

    I had those same butterflies at my first ever session, you're not alone. And that point when I finally started to trust my tires was amazing. The next coolest feeling was clicking off several good laps in a row, but it was like i was on autopilot. Almost like i was riding subconsciously? It was July at VIR so I i may have been slightly delirious and suffering a mild heat stroke, but it got my bump too.
    Best adivce i can give is to ride with friends. I've done a lot of solo TDs, but having friends around makes it better.

The drag strip an hour and a half away was fun until someone on a turbo Hayabusa got into the 6s above 180mph in the 1000'. From that day forward bikes are only allowed to run the 1/8 mile. No fun. I do that blast every time I ride on the street!

    That's an awesome and upbeat video. Regarding advice for doing track days, leave the ego at the gate. Approach the track day relaxed and open to learning from both instructors and other riders. Push your limits within reason. As you get faster, the margin of safety diminishes so the steps for improvement tend to be smaller. Enjoy yourself. As an instructor, I typically do 40+ track days per year and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone with a receptive attitude who is a better rider at the end of the day vs the morning after putting instruction into action.

    Lee Parks is good stuff. They run the California Motorcycle Safety Program now (for like 10 years or so), after taking over from the MSF.
    Personally, after 40 years of riding, a little dual sporting/adv, intermediate training with a local Sheriff's office and commuting in Silicon Valley, I've never felt the need to do a crack day. I'm comfortable at speeds well over the speed limit. The only issue I have with people doing crack days is they come home and want to practice riding at track speeds on public roads, which is a bad idea for so many reasons.
    I have a saying... those that seek the edge are destined to go over it.
    Motorcycles are addictive. One of the first things you notice is how fast even an average bike is. Power to weight ratio. And there's the leaning and the field of vision that changes your whole perception from being strapped in a metal cage.
    FWIW, chicken strips go great with bbq sauce.
    Great to see a video from you again!

    What this old fart can share is gratitude. On my antique touring bikes I have slid on road stripe paint and had that vinyl eating pucker factor in curves and turns. My eldest daughter loves your videos and is just happy riding her Low Rider like her Dad. Neither of us or your instructors can give you self esteem, but we are oh so happy you aren't riding above your skill level with an inflated ego. 2:00 I point people to cheap, pre-crashed bikes not covered in plastic early on for this reason. Worrying about damaging your bike really gets in the way of learning. To learn quickly, you need a bike that is either so cheap, or so sturdy, or one thats already beat to hell, that damaging it never crosses your mind. To many people buy their "dream bike" an never practice any basic skills for fear of dropping their pride an joy, and/or their wallet. They end up being that guy duck walking u-turns after 10 years of riding. Its rare to see someone admit that fear of damaging their bike kept them from doing something though. Glad to see you understand it did you. I know its done it to me too. Not my first bike that was a beater, but the one I got after not riding for a few years. It was to easy to damage.

    One of the big problems with track days is that the cost of entry is really high. A leather suit, an airbag, a bike you can afford to bin (almost no insurance covers your bike on the track), maybe a new helmet (I needed one because my normal helmet is modular), new gloves (gauntlets). Not counting the "bike you can bin" (which will be different for everyone), your 1000's in before you set foot on the track. Don't have a trailer or pickup truck? Oh, this could get really expensive.
    I'm gearing up for my first track day right now and while I hope I enjoy it, I will NEVER say to anyone riding like an idiot on the street "You need to take it to the track" again. There's a REAL good reason that many people don't take it to track, it's a huge barrier to have all the gear, insurance, and bike that's ready to ride on track. Including the cost of my bike for the track (I cannot afford to bin my S1000), it wouldn't shock me if I'm 20K in at this point. At least I already own a pickup truck!
    The gulf between twisting the throttle 2 seconds longer to see what 100MPH and "take it to the track" could almost not be wider. I don't condone riding like an idiot on the road, but, having now "prepped" for a track day, there's a reason that most of the kids you see going 120+ on the highway aren't "taking it to the track". They can't even come close to affording it, the first track day could easily cost more than their bike!

    I instruct on track, but would recommend a skills day instead.
    The difference is about exploring the limits of your cornering/braking ability in safety. You will be surprised how far you can go, especially as you know that the grip is there, the same bends AND nothing coming the other way.
    Track days, whilst can be fun, they can also be very intimidating, with lots of expectations which likely aren't relevant.

    I get it got my license literally 23 years ago and haven’t done a track even though I’ve wanted. Also want to do an ADV coarse, but I absolutely think of the worse things. More worried about hurting someone else or the bike. Plus gear inhibiting. Hard to justify 500+ for a suit I may only use once.

    Where was this track day, Pocono Raceway? I ask because I'm in PA as well, and want to know when the class opens for sign up so I can go next riding season, and how many spots/classes were there? Thanks!

    Real question..... Is that an agv thing? Pitting out she flips her visor closed with no hands. Will it actually latch properly that way? I might shop helmets if that's the case.

    • @AntiParallali
      @AntiParallali  14 дней назад +1

      It's designed that way, it does latch fully like that. It's more difficult to keep the visor up than down actually...like going over a bump in the road will close it
