      Hi GS. I wrote basically the same things, but it was an old video of yours that I commented... I hope you read this one. In Pacific Fighters (20 years old IL-2 game that I really loved) there were a bunch of beautiful fighters that I can't seem to find around nowadays: F4 Corsair, Seafire and Ki-84 being my favourites, but also Hellcat, Ki-46 (it would be very similar to the I-16, but better, I believe), Ki-61, A6 Zero and many others. Any hope to see you in a corsair anytime soon?
      Thank you and congratulations, both for your skills and your videos!

    I loved flying the I-16 in IL-2 1946 online against 109s, especially the one with cannons (type 24?). Most guys would severely underestimate it and I would drive them crazy turning outside their gun angle. I learned a thing or two about evasive flying that way. Lots of fun!

    The tactics GS used on the Kite is exactly how the Germans took it on. I could not fathom why the P-47 didn't use its 100 mph advantage in the same way the Mosquito

    • @Coluchiy84
      @Coluchiy84 3 года назад +5

      А он и не использовал преимущество в скорости. Он использовал преимущество в скороподъёмности, которого у P-47 не было. Толи это какое-то условие таких дуэелей, толи наслоение привычек из поздней реактивной эры, но разрыв дистанции на этом канале я вижу редко.
      Upd.
      Глянул в компарь - я не прав, у москито со скороподъёмность даже немного хуже ситуация. Это именно удержание большей энергии за счёт климба на больших скоростях, где у И-16 уже начинаются проблемы. Это должен уметь и P-47. Почему не использовали ни это, ни разрыв дистанции - загадка.

      My thoughts exactly. Should the P-47 have been flown that way in the previous video, the outcome may have been entirely different... Also, the fight started at a higher altitude this time, just where the Jug's turbocharger may start to kick in.

    • @AbsoluteyAmerican
      @AbsoluteyAmerican Месяц назад +1

      I was going to say this too. Also they didn’t do a merge, GS started at a higher altitude for this dogfight.
      I like GS but I do think he sets up some rules or parameters to give him the best chance of winning. In the P47 the pilot never used its speed advantage and went into the two circle but never broke it like any smart pilot would do and accelerate for their speed advantage to then climb away and dive down again once the donkey lost its energy.

    • @AbsoluteyAmerican
      @AbsoluteyAmerican Месяц назад

      @@razorback20 I agree with you. I like GS but its clear he sets rules or parameters to give him the best advantage at winning. They didn’t even do a proper merge he already started at an altitude advantage and naturally kept that energy advantage. Also the p47 kept trying to turn fight which any decent p47 pilot knows stay straight stay fast and use ur speed to pull away and climb to then repeat your attack.
      So definitely think it was a little set up for a better chance at a win.

    If I'm not mistaken, the -18 version of the I-16 was armed with 4 .30 caliber machine guns, but the -24 version was armed with 2 .30 caliber machine guns and 2 20mm cannons. The -24 model could do some damage if it gets a hit on you. Be interesting to know which version is in DCS.

    • @Hornet135
      @Hornet135 3 года назад

      Apparently the one in DCS is the type 24 which just had 4 x 7.62 machine guns. The type 17 and 27 and possibly others had 2 x 7.62 and 2 x 20mm. Supposedly the extra weight hurt performance so they weren’t built in large numbers. It would be nice to have the option of using a model with 20mm cannons in DCS though.

      AFAIU while the Mossie had fabric covering on the wings and fuselage, the fabric was draped over plywood sheeting which formed the main "skin" on the aircraft. Control surfaces were fabric over aluminum framing though. I'm not sure there is that much difference in setting off HE shells vs. a traditional WWII all metal construction?

    • @roijoi6963
      @roijoi6963 3 года назад +1

      Some time ago now, but IIRC, the Mosquito started out as a 4-engine design, but when the designers started looking at all the stuff they'd need to brace the structure for 4 engines it just got impossibly heavy and slow. They had an epiphany though, and started taking things away from the design, pretty quickly transitioned to a 2-engine design and kept optimizing away until they had a really brilliant design. Elon Musk would have loved that design team, as he uses the exact same process. Paring things down almost always results in a virtuous cycle in design. The Viper and the F-16XL are both excellent examples as is the A4 - whose retractable gear didn't even fully retract bc to do so would have interrupted the main spar, so they just built a speed fairing and left the wheels to stick out a bit.
      At any rate, it's a real pleasure to see how exactly all those design decisions helped create a legend, and exactly how brilliant the design was in action. I always liked that the twin-boom designs, like the P-38 Lightening spread the weight across the lift of the wings, reducing the demands on the wing structure dramatically.

    • @SCYTHE2525
      @SCYTHE2525 3 года назад +2

      @@roijoi6963 And if what I read was true, they deliberately intended from onset to create a nearly all wood plane due to metal shortage. And I seem to remember reading that they put quite a bit of balsa wood into the design as well as ash from Europe, Douglas fir from northwest America and sitka spruce from the west coast. Sitka spruce is still considered by many guitarists to be the premier wood for making acoustic guitar soundtops. And also that they weren't expecting pilots to fall in love with the plane. Apparently it was a joy to fly yet had one of the meanest bites on the battlefield.

    To be fair, no aircraft is truly scary anymore once you get the jump on them, and competence to execute it, can't forget that.

    How are the planes in comparison to the BoX-planes? I know that DCS has more complex flight- and engine-models, and that's not what I mean: I mean how is the feel in the aircraft in comparison - do you get a "P-38-vibe" or a "Spit-vibe" (or a what-vibe) in both of them? Would be fun to see a comparison-vid from you one day

    Regarding "ridiculously tough" the Mosquito was no easy bit to take down itself.

    It seems like the two planes’ nicknames should be reversed. The I16 is a real mosquito, and when dogfighting the Mossie is more of a Donkey for sure.

    I bought the i-16 because of this video.
    I have tried to look up a youtube tutorial
    on how to do the instant replays that
    many DCS video makers are using now
    and cannot find any info. They seem
    to refer to the replay ability of dcs
    right column button for replay ?
    Thanks for any help
