      Would be great, but expensive as hell if they're going for live action/CGI, like in the movie.

      KlohsCalls They could do in animation, seeing how their game trailers look like, but it would be expensive as well and I believe most people would ignore it seeing it as preteens/teens tv show, because it's animated.

      WARNING: Movie spoilers!
      i love your review! the second i saw the movie i was talking about you hopefully giving a review xD i watched it with different kind of warcraft fans, me, the "elder lore nerd" and hardcore roleplayer, then a rooleplayer who just met the universe and picked up some novels, a player who had alot of PvE and PvP experience, and a total freshbloodv too the universe.
      we all enjoyed the movie a hell lot, and i agree with you about the paste of the story, sometimes overlength would do a movie great. for the time they used, they made a good job for people with enough interest to see through alot, but not all.
      the only things that bothered me, where the major differences, like Dalaran floating: we dont really see Dalaran floating, we just hear Kadghar say it, so why bother making it float against the original story anyway?
      or the fact that Medivh never aged kadgar with the spell, so easy to put in and to make it happen any second, it just didnt for.. what reason?
      and what kinda pissed me off, was the short moment they showed the black cube thing and toold us it iis Alodi, and within was not the first guardian we know, it was an old woman. sure, my theory is iit could be Aegwyn who placed herself there in order to keep watch over medivh, waiting for kadghar to warn him and that the cube is actually the forge of the guardian. but why didnt the kirin'tor knew about Alodi, the first guardian?
      on other scenes, i see why they had to do it, like the frostwolfclan was murdered within the orcish camp and thats why baby thrall was put in the river, and wasnt let alone for exsample.
      sorry for the long text nobbel, i love your videos and i simply had the urge to post my thoughts in the comments to get them out there, and i would be honored and flattered, if you would even find and be able to read it! lots of love for you!

    Yeah, just like the guy that plays Ogrim doomhammer said, its a world builder movie and from there hopefully they can make more but better. I reckon this franchise can really improve to be a solid series, it just needs to get enough pull with each movie.

    • @TyronMakeka

    • @BountyFlamor
      @BountyFlamor 8 лет назад

      but hopefully they won't pull that revenure maximization trick that The Hobbit and Hunger Games did: Drawing out a franchise in as many sequels as possible to make the moviegoers pay each time, who have invested into it already by watching all the preceding parts if the story would be wrapped up better in less movie parts instead of drawing it out on purpose.

    • @DCPTF2
      @DCPTF2 8 лет назад +3

      In Science We Trust but that's the thing the scourge is more then just another group of zombies you have abominations, ghouls, shades not to mention the Cult of the damned.
      The scourge is something that is well defined for a reason zombies are only ever a danger in large packs three or four walking dead style zombies to a group of well trained knights is basically nothing but an annoyance in comparison the same number of scourge troops would be a dangerous threat.
      also if the scourge are reduced to just mindless zombies will they just remove the entire story of the Lich King because i don't think i could see them giving any real screen time to the leader of the mindless zombie hoards

    • @DCPTF2
      @DCPTF2 8 лет назад

      TNS N maybe but i think they will just skip over the scourge and make it as if it's not as powerful as it is in warcraft 3

    • @Attillee
      @Attillee 8 лет назад +1

      Do you expect a explanation in the new upcoming movies of the titans, Kil Jaeden and Ner`zuhl ?
      I dont, so hopefully no scourge bshit :) I don`t think they will be able to make movies of every lore aspect in wow. There is too much for a 2-3 hour movie.

    • @DCPTF2

    Been getting a lot of questions about the lore of the movie compared to the game: The warcraft movie is not part of the main universe lore. It's a movie adaptation, alternate reality of sorts. Some things remained the same, a lot of other things changed.

    • @dakotalail4214
      @dakotalail4214 8 лет назад +4

      I'm pretty sure the Kirin Tor mage was Antonidas. He was credited for it.

    • @Jimboquacks
      @Jimboquacks 8 лет назад

      And that is why the movie sucked. How hard is it to adapt warcraft 1. It was pretty simple, its no LOTR with a bunch of stuff going on.

    • @dakotalail4214
      @dakotalail4214 8 лет назад +2

      +Kevin they said it wasn't gonna be a warcraft 1 adaptation.
      I thought it was pretty legit.

    • @Jimboquacks
      @Jimboquacks 8 лет назад +1

      dakota lail Then what was it? Their version of the first game? It wasn't a world of warcraft movie, it was warcraft based on the first war. So many wrong things about the movie. They could have replaced that boring scene with Durotan and his wife Draka with the Orcs gathering to drink Mannorth's blood. Showing each of the orc leaders, and Durotan refusing to drink the blood. Look at the WOD cinematic intro for how it should have been without Garrosh intervening and making an alternate time line.

    • @dakotalail4214
      @dakotalail4214 8 лет назад +3

      +Kevin warcraft has too much lore to cram into 2 hours. they couldn't of done all that and had a story that felt complete.
      they took the story tweaked a little and ran with it. they did lore changes for the right reasons In my opinion

  • @adij1950
    @adij1950 8 лет назад +19

    in my opinion explaining sargeras and the burning legion would only make the movie more complicated and like nobbel said, cram more story into the movie. I think just keeping it at fel was a good idea and sargeras and the burning legion is more for the next movies.

    Problem is, Nobbel, the studio cut out 40min of original footage in order for the movie to qualify for "summer blackbuster" standard. Hence, there seems to be abrupt scene changes and some lack of depth.
    Extended edition would more or less fix the problems.

    Yeah i agree. This movie is moving at a blistering speed. Nobody got introduced properly, if i were a new comer to WC i would have no idea on what is happening. For people who have known the lore though this movie is fantastic.
    Next movie expectations:
    > Introduction of the Night Elves
    > Introduction of Ner'zul
    > Kid Thrall growing up
    > At least a glimpse of kid Arthas and/or kid Jaina
    > More focus on the other races (High Elves etc.)
    > End of the movie, would be the creation of the Undead/ or Ner'zul becomes an armor and frozen in northrend

      This movie didn't even cover whole first war so I doubt the next movie will end with the end of the second war as they have to close up the first war with the destruction of stormwind and then do the highelf, dragon and death of Gul'dan part and after that also do beyond the dark portal.

      Duncan Jones said that if he was to be the director of next two movies then he would do it so that the orcs have a new home after the third movie - that means end of third war. That is some very fast moving lore train and a scary one.

      "Fans" should be a good thing. If you are a fan of something you should criticize the thing you like ( either it is a company / singer / movie production studio ) and make them be better, to improve, to stand for what you like. Those you talk about are just brainwashed. They are like "this guy have done this thing and it looked very good so everything he does is good". Just like the orcs did with Gul'dan in the movie. They were not fan boys of Gul'Dan,

    My feelings were pretty much the same. The movie felt disjointed in parts. And then I heard the Director's Cut was 40 minutes longer - and I totally believed it. That's probably the version of the film I'll be getting eventually.
    For example, did any of you notice Grom Hellscrem in several scenes of the movie? He is never acknowledged, yet he looks like him and even wields Gorehowl. Back at Comic Con 2015 they showed a scene where he even got to talk with Durotan, Draka and Orgrim. That scene took place before even the very first scene with Gul'dan. And they cut Grom's entire part.

      We all know it is, none the less.
      So saying I, and others, are stupid for assuming the obvious - is stupid.

      Last guardian goes into the song of aegwynn and says: "With the death of Medivh, Sargeras finally came fully to the surface." The warcraft movie does not. Yeah we see him turn into a demon, but the reason presented in the film seems to be fel corruption, corruption which Medivh came in touch with through trolls (bonds of brotherhood). We know the original Medivh had Sargeras inside of him, perhaps that's who they meant with the master, but the info we have does not support one way or the other.

    I feel like all of the complaints i have about the movie could be explained by the 40 minutes of cut footage.

      Nah I think it fits better into the cinematic format, its no where near the complexity of game of thrones, I would put my money on the fact that a few scenes that helped the pacing were cut by the studio. It would really have only taken one or two scenes at the start of the movie, and maybe a "3 months later" or something.

    I too wanted a lot more backstory to the Draenei and the Orc land but when I thought about it that in itself is so much to cover and I don't think would've appealed to non players. This story pulled in fans and new viewers and also left it very open to an origin movie or a few prequels including one for the old gods and the Titans. Those stories will be easier to make now that Warcraft has a gamer and no gamer fan base who would be drawn to see how it all started. Great review!

      That was already established. He did what he had to do in violation of his own beliefs, right down to a matter of honour. Since Shamans gather their strength from their conviction giving their actions credence for the spirits, this action even limited his 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 in what is probably a very permanent way. But I truly believe he did what he believed was necessary, even though he lacked conviction in his own rightness. Yes, magic is forbidden from Mak'gora and what Go'el did invalidated the Mak'gora and impugned on his own honour. But he did what was best for Azeroth, just like he always has. And he did so at the expense of his own honour and power.

  • @Frozen_Death_Knight
    @Frozen_Death_Knight 8 лет назад +5

    *spoilers*
    The scene with Garona and Medivh is supposed to be about the reveal of Garona's actual father, Nobbel. They changed the origin of Garona to having Medivh as her father and an Orc as her mother (notice that she had a(n) (Orc) tusk as a necklace that was from her mother). The reason why is because it makes sense within the context of the actual movie. Considering how they needed to condense the story to make a film as well as the fact that the original story contained rape, you can understand why they did this.
    As for Gul'dan and how he destroyed Draenor, it actually was explained in the movie. The scene where Durotan and Orgrim sat on a cliff explained everything you needed to know about how Gul'dan did this, both visually, and through dialogue. Heck, the main motivation as to why Durotan wanted to stop Gul'dan was because he saw how the Fel destroyed the land as well as his people.
    The reason why Garona said that at the camp fire scene was because she completely misinterpreted Khadgar looking at her. She is from another world and a completely different culture, which is why she came to that conclusion. It is also a character trait she has since she kept misinterpreting things constantly throughout the movie when interacting with the Humans. It was completely in character for her and the scene did its job in creating a bond between the three characters.

      In other words the movie company twisted the story to be more "happy union, kill evil" during the warcraft first war. That is really upsetting considering that many TV series already provide scenes that happened cause of rape. A way to explain that rape is a taboo even in movies, which is sad and upsetting on novel loving people like me, who wanted to see the actual story made in pictures.

    Let the movie sink some days and think about the story how you would've done it. Also consider that it was heavy cut. E.g. the origin of Garona, why she is half human and not draenei is completely cut. And recap Ben Foster as Medivh, that acting was awesome. And Khadgar in his youth... I imagine him exactly like that from the point of Warlords of Draenor

      Thats the studios decision to shorten the film, not Duncan Jones. Why Hollywood is obsessed with the 2-hour film time limit is beyond me. It ruins epic fantasy movies and the very least detracts from them massively. Here are some examples of great films made worse by cutting the story short - in some cases ruining them; Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Waterworld and Battle of Five Armies - guess we're pry going to end up adding Warcraft to that list as well.

  • @Typanoid
    @Typanoid 8 лет назад +1

    Having now watched the film (enjoyed the heck out of it), I do have a few comments.
    I actually found myself enjoying most of the lore changes, because I actually think it made the story better. There were a few exceptions though (I'll talk about them later in this comment).
    Them not explaining the Fel further was fine with me. They made it clear that it needs life to work, but also corrupts. And at the end of the movie, we got a demon possessing Medivh. I believe it is common for fantasy stories that evil, corrupting magic tends to be demonic in origin, so most people unfamiliar with the lore can assume that Gul'Dan made deals with devils (which is pretty much the case).
    It explains what people need to know about it - any more and it would be information overload.
    The lore changes I was iffy about was primarily that Stormwind City was still standing at the end of the film and they forged the Alliance there - they handled it well though and I do understand why a movie would have to do this, but if the sequel doesn't start with Stormwind being sacked, it could worsen my opinion of the first movie later.
    Lothar killing Blackhand instead of Orgrim Doomhammer doing it, while again handled well, did annoy me quite a bit, because it kind of took away from how badass classic Warcraft Orgrim was supposed to be.
    But if he kills Lothar in the sequel (like in the lore), that could make up for it a little.
    The movie could have allowed me to imagine that the war lasted a few years if not for the fact that Thrall is born at the start of the film and is still a newborn infant at the end, which brings me to a thing about the film that has bugged me since before I watched it.
    I was a little annoyed at how woefully ineffectual the non-named Human soldiers were in battle. Outside of the named characters (including Lothar's Son, who handled himself better than I expected), and perhaps a few in the background(?), nearly everyone else lasted less than a second.
    I get that the movie has to sell the Horde as this nearly invincible threat and it did explain that the first strike force was made up of the best warriors of the Horde, but I feel it does take away from the feeling of Stormwind being the mightiest of the Human Kingdoms with a well-trained, massive Army (which it was and it held the Horde at bay in something like 10 years before being sacked in the original lore).
    I have to grudgingly accept that it is to streamline it for the movie, but it is a bitter pill to swallow.
    Still, most of the movie made me happy and I liked how they made Llane's Death much more meaningful and how it forced Garona to kill him, without resorting to a cheap magical mental control thing, and I also liked the confrontation with Medivh at the end. Also, the film made lots of references to missions and story elements of the first game, which made it feel like an excellent adaptation of that game's story.

  • @viestursaustrums7451
    @viestursaustrums7451 8 лет назад +5

    Nobbel, regards character descriptions, there might be characters which you are not supposed to care. Lothar's son might have been used as a tool to make you care about Lothar. After all Lothar sees his son die. It's not about the son.
    Also I don't hear you try to interpret place or time or... how they got to it. And as serious you take the joking part. (regards the Garona's convo with Khadgar and Lothar at the campfire). They are about to meet other orcs, Garona reveals that not all orcs are bad to make Lothar not just attack them. Khadgar on that tries to tell his story, but that is the joke part (as shown by Lothar's reaction on Khadgar's story). I'm not saying your opinion is bad, Nobbel87, but I hope if there is a next time, you'll also try to see the bigger picture of it. The one made of details.

    You don't think they're saving the fel explanations for future movies? Like they'll find out things such as about Sargeras and stuff.
    Also I think you need to go see it again. That Medivh story about his girlfriend or whatever, was just to get Garona to go and find Lothar and leave him on his own so he could start the incantation uncorrupted. Or that's how I interpreted it on second viewing. It definitely does get better.
    But when I look forward, at all the stories they may do in the future, it gets so, so much better than this. Imagine Arthas' story on the big screen. That'd be massive.

      But that is a bit far off, we still need to destroy Stormwind, go to Lordaeron, form the Silver Hand order and beat back the orcs. Then it's Thrall's time to shine, and I can't wait for that.
      Quite a few movies in there.

    We dont ask HOW Sauron is so powerfull, is he a god? a demigod? Why is he so mad? Only those who really like the story and nerd into it with all that Tolkien extra scripts knows (and I dont even think everything is explaned there)
    My point is: Does the Fel really need be explaned more than that its a deadly magic? On the other points Im kinda with you, the pacing is wierd if you dont know story already. Had the best of times in the theater though! Best nerdgasm in a long time.

      I'm a huge fan of the Wow and its LORE, but my grades were very much the same. And I agree with Nobbel - they were trying hard to give us a lot of info in a realy short time. That made viewer a bit confused from time to time.
      My gf and a friend for example, they both play the game and did not understand all of it and I had to explain a thing or two. I know the old sotry because I was playing wc1 and wc2 and wc3 before wow.

    I felt the pacing was too awkard but apparently they had to cut about 40mins from time constraint so hopefully is therre's going to be a full length director's cut.
    I enjoyed the film. I did feel that the human characters were more underdeveloped then the orcs though. But I think that's because for people who don't know about Warcraft, will usually associate orcs as being bad guys. So it was good they showed that not all the orcs were bad and that you can relate to them.
    When you talk about the origin of how the orcs became green. That's even more exposition in a film that's already full of it. There's so much lore that you can't fit it all into one film, so maybe it will be shown in a later one.

A big part with video games is how we PERSONALLY perceive them mentally, so of course character playout is gonna be weird for all of us. • @Greatot
    @Greatot 8 лет назад +10

    I really hate this movie, they ruined the characters and story so much. Nobbel you are giving it a pass because you "expected it" but are you really being honest there. I mean-
    Gul'Dan "leading" the Horde instead pulling strings from behind the shadows.
    Garona having a free will and just faking the king of Stormwind's death (With her terrible romance story)
    Gul'Dan only bringing a part of the Horde into Azeroth for the invasion (Why?)
    Stormwind never falling, yet the Alliance forming anyway.
    Thrall being sent down a river in a cringy moses scene instead of his parents being murdered and him being left alone on the ground.
    Just generic "Fel" being "Ooooh, super evil" instead there being a Burning Legion.
    Ogrim never killing Blackhand.
    This movie made the same exact mistake nearly all previous video game movie adaptations have made, the same exact mistake that earned them their bad rep. *Messing* *with* *the* *source* *material* . The characters, the story, the entire world has been simplified, altered, watered-down, *ruined*. And it really pisses me off that in the future all the critics and people previously unfamiliar with Warcraft are going to think of this abomination of a movie and storyline as "Warcraft".
    0/10

      Haven't seen it yet but I expected something like this to happen. The movie could've gone in either of 2 directions. 1. Too complicated for people unfamiliar with Warcraft. 2. Too simplified/watered-down for the fans. I'll try to watch it as an independent story and try to not think too much about all the changes.

    • @KaNoMikoProductions
      @KaNoMikoProductions 8 лет назад +4

      1. Gul'dan leading the Horde makes complete sense. The Warchief as we know it was established by Orgrim. Blackhand's warchief was quite literally just a chief of war.
      2. That is a much, much better alternative to fucking mindcontrol, which is the cheapest trick in the book.
      3. Gul'dan always only brought in a part of the Horde. That's why Grommash originally didn't participate in the First War.
      4. Stormwind falling vs the king falling really doesn't make any difference. Also, Stormwind still has time to fall.
      5. His parents are still murdered. The only difference here is that it actually makes sense for Thrall to fucking survive.
      6. There's still a Burning Legion. But guess what, they didn't have time to explain all that fucking shit.
      7. That's really up to preference. They can still do something with Orgrim.
      Honestly, you're just really fucking salty.

      Thank you! Finally someone who agrees with me! I told the exact same thing for the people but all the time i got backlash for daring to say this. The plot is so fucked up and watered down compared to the original. I'm so upset because of this.

    • @Greatot
      @Greatot 8 лет назад +7

      *****(Hope you have time to read all of this.)
      1. No, Gul'Dan leading the Horde *doesn't* make any sense, he is not a leader type, he always just wanted more power over anything else which is why he preferred to stay in the shadows so he can betray the Horde if it means earning more power for himself. Being the big leader dude would just put a lot of responsibly on himself.
      Ogrim didn't establish the Warchief as we know him, Orc clans before they all joined up had Warchiefs with just as much power over their individual people as today's Horde Warchief. Blackhand in the story was *supposed* to be the Warchief and all the Orcs knew him as the big leader when in truth it was Gul'Dan who had the real power and control and he used Blackhand as a puppet. That's why Ogrim killing him was a big deal. It was an *interesting* story arc that they completely fucked up in the movie by just making Gul'Dan the big evil dude and Blackhand his underling. It's terrible.
      2. No, it's not, not at all, you are terrible at judging stories. Garona faking the death of the king to go back to the Horde on her own will is a much worse and much more straight forward, simple story than her *thinking* she has free will, and everyone thinking she has free will only for Gul'Dan's spell to take effect and her killing her allies despite what everyone thought. That would have been a MUCH better twist and more emotional. It would have also portrayed Gul'Dan as a much better villain who can actually do some fucking planning.
      3. Yes, but the amount of Orcs he brought in was enough to destroy Stormwind instead of having to retreat to summon more Orcs. In the movie the Orcs never get anywhere because they have to retreat for more troops.
      4. What? It makes an *ENORMOUS* difference, the king faking his fucking death and the entire goddamn city being burned to the ground are two very different things. And while the city could still technically fall they already missed the right chance to do that and ruined the pacing of the story. In the original story the Orcs eventually overwhelmed the Humans + Garona killing the king against her own will which shocked everyone leading to them destroying the city. One of the biggest bastions of humanity destroyed because of this new threat. THAT was the time the other races decided to form the grand alliance to fight back the Horde. And even that almost failed to stop them. In this garbage movie that story is already ruined. The grand alliance should now easily be able to move their troops south against Orcs without any enslaved red dragons, forest trolls or Ogres and they should not be able to lose the city. Making it a very boring conflict.
      5. It always made sense for him to survive. The Human lord (forgot his name now) finds him.
      6. You don't know that, nor does it matter. In THIS movie they never mentioned the Burning Legion, which makes the story in THIS movie terrible. If they add it the second (Even thought this one failed so hard I doubt there will be a sequel) great. But they might also not add the Burning Legion at all.
      7. No it's not something up to preference or debate, a very big moment in Ogrim's story if not the MOST important is when he killed Blackhand, who, again, everyone saw as the big leader, and then proceeding to annihilate the shadow council and almost kill Gul'Dan was it not for his promise of Ogre Magi and Death Knights. That's what marked him as the badass we all know. The only way he could still pull this off is if he killed Gul'Dan instead, but obviously he can't do that because that would mean no Ogre Magi and no Death Knights and it would just end the Gul'Dan storyline.
      I think you're just really terrible at reviewing movies and storylines.

    • @darthvidu8020

      What do you mean by... Garona faking the death of the king?
      *spoilers below*
      Garona did kill the king.
      And this is a much more intelligent way of doing things.
      I don't understand why you are so upset about these changes considering blizzard themselves retcon things with every single expansion. I'm a lot more pissed off about those changes, rather than the movie which we all know is a separate entity.
      The Burning Legion is not mentioned by name in this movie (which is a good thing), but if you were paying attention you would've noticed Garona saying that Gul'dan got his power from his master, a demon.
      You need to understand that telling the story in 2 hours, in the format of a movie, begs for some changes. I was also afraid that it would be watered-down, but I found it to be far from that.
      No hate towards you, it's fine to have different opinions.

    IMO a great review, and it seems my opinion is pretty much the same as yours. I went in with low expectations and only hoping to see the Warcraft world rendered beautifully in the cinema, so the pacing and characterization shortcomings didn't affect my enjoyment of the movie at all. I came out of the cinema with a huge smile on my face and i think most fans who go in with appropriate expectations will do the same :) It is said that Duncan Jones was forced to cut 40 minutes of the movie by Universal, so hopefully a lot of the pacing issues will be solved if the movie does well and he gets to do a directors cut :)

    When it Medivh talked about the women he fell in love with and left, it seemed to me like it was being implied that this was Garona's mother and he was her father. He did say that his lover was of a different people and that he had gone very far to meet her. To me he made it sound like he traveled to another planet. I figured this was also meant to explain how Medivh was corrupted by Fel in the first place, as it would've happened when he visited Draenor and fell in love with that woman. I know that's nothing like the lore of the games and that if I am right they should've made it WAY clearer, but this is what I felt they were implying, and I think it makes the story better.

    I enjoyed the movie, but I agree, the pacing was really bad. It felt rushed and I wish there were some indications of time passing, like the trees changing, or showing day and night pass, nothing major, just something to give you a hint at how much time has passed. Also, the part where Llane tells Garona she has to kill him to ensure the peace, or at least the possibility of it, between the orcs and humans was a bit odd to me. How could her "betrayal" bring peace? Only the sequel can tell. I loved Durotan and Draka, they were amazing, I was so damn sad when they died. I wonder what happened with Orgrim.
