  • Mindful Tarot: Bring a Peace-Filled, Compassionate Practice to the 78 Cards (Llewellyn, 2019) by Dr. Lisa Freinkel Tishman blends the principles of Zen Buddhist practice with the tarot.
The result is a meaningful text that will develop your tarot reading skills at three levels: (1) mindful awareness of yourself and your querent, (2) a deeper relationship with your cards, and (3) a transformed understanding of the tarot system.

Dear Benebell, I followed your meditation and completed my reading using the Tao Oracle, by Ma Deva Padma. I was drawn to these cards many years ago, and the wisdom of the I Ching, almost forty years ago. My reading was profound and extremely accurate for my present life's challenges. I will be reviewing this video daily for at least this week, and continuing my inner work and journey. You are a powerful teacher and a beautiful woman. Thank you for generously sharing your wisdom and time to create the best videos I have found on the tarot. 💕💕

Hi Benbell, Regarding the Unknowing step.
I attended a webinar of Lisa's and she said that in the Unknowing step we should bracket everything we know about the card and see the it fresh and blankly. 10:45 It is in the LOOKING step that we look deeply into the card, and perhaps bring in card meanings from written sources.

Very insightful look into what has been going on with my health. Getting older has been such a struggle, but the cards I pulled reassure me that it's a change of life (literally and figuratively!) and that as one way of being sloughs away, another emerges more radiant and profound! Thank you Benebell!

So I'm interested in the implications between Tarot and meditation. I know there is the meditative act of placing yourself in the landscape of the card, picturing and holding the emotions which arise as a way to learn the qualities of the card ( when I combined this with the card as a guide, it really was moving and profound) is there any end or beginning of Tarot with anything else one can do?
It goes further in depth with this method of reading for sure! Plus, I had no trouble pretending I didn't know much about Tarot, because I don't! Having confidence in the meaning of cards is paramount I've discovered, but just as Zen Buddhism is designed to break up patterns of habit, this reliance on card knowledge can be limiting until something nuanced comes along and forces you to have a little bit of personal depth like this method of tapping into the inarticulate and just giving it warranted attention.
The Medium White Book for the Vitruvian edition is absolutely an insightful and indispensable guide, and when the charioteer for the spread was, as in the Vitruvian edition, "The Void" with the meditative chap focusing on emptiness when he should probably be working overtime, I just thought it was a bit much :) but that's the Tarot doing what it do. Thank you for another insightful and didactic video.
