  • Dr. Scott Shikora discusses and demonstrates the robotic sleeve gastrectomy, a bariatric surgery option for weight loss and metabolic treatment in patients with body mass index (BMI) of greater than 40 or BMI greater than 35 with major co-morbid condition. Bariatric surgery can result in meaningful and sustainable weight loss. The sleeve gastrectomy is a procedure that is growing in popularity and is an alternative to the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band or the Roux-Y gastric bypass procedure. At Brigham and Women's Hospital, surgeons are using the robot to further improve the sleeve gastrectomy procedure.
