She was relevant. But she was no great leader. In all honesty, she was a non entity up till she got widowed. Then she was raped by the romans and it looks like her daughters also got it. That was seen as very distasteful by the tribes and it was quite a stupid thing to allow for the roman in charge. Long story short, everyone rallied behind her figurehead due to the mistreats and misconduct of the roman incompetent leader. Same incompetent managed to get a couple town sacked by the rebels. Finally, a true roman commander got a legion into the field and it was game over woman, game over! So much for the great female leader.

It is not quite exactly the same. In fact, its night and day. By the way, contrary to Spartacus, Boudicca could have appointed a more experienced military leader to lead her armies. She only needed to know who to trust and who not to trust. Ohh, sure they would not have roman legions. But its way different from Spartacus. Spartacus had to try and build his rebellion on an hostile land, without resources, everything from scratch. Boudicca was on her own lands, able to call on all available resources surrounding her. By the way, Spartacus did much much better. Spartacus achieved almost the same rate of success against worse odds. Both were fighting a lost war but Spartacus was much more effective with what he had available. If you want a more serious example you should look at the Iberian rebellion under Viriatos and watch how a proper local leader could put the roman legions in check for quite some time.

But Boudicca's rebellion wasn't necessarily underperforming. Sure, Boudicca was of royal blood, but she still was a female, which might not have been as dramatic in Britannia as in Rome, but would probably have meant no education, especially in warfare. And her charisma was the only thing holding the rebellion together, which makes appointing a commander to do 'her task' a lot more challenging, albeit not impossible. Spartacus did a lot better, I think. I was not quite aware of the scope, perhaps, in which he outperformed Boudicca, but I always have held Spartacus in higher regard than Boudicca. However, he did have soldiers following him who were both desperate (and therefore didn't flee) and decent melee fighters with experience in combat. Britannia hadn't seen a lot of combat at the point of Boudicca's rebellion, so her soldiers were probably not very skilled. Viriatos' rebellion, by the way, does that happen to be the rebellion that endured 25 years until one Tiberius Gracchus negotiated them into a vassal state? Because that was a good rebellion indeed. I do feel the need however to point out that Iberia had been under foreign occupation (and thus had expertise in that whole rebellion thing) for a lot longer due to the presence of Carthage in the regio. Also Iberians were great in guerilla-style warfare thanks to their excellence in skirmishing and close-quarters fighting, which could offset the numerical advantages and the tactial formations of Rome and Carthage in terrain which was more difficult to traverse than open plains. I do agree with what you say, and merely want to present my own opinion on the matter. I hope we can at least agree on the fact that Spartacus' rebellion punched above its weight. ;)

I play this game, because while it doesn’t have the super tactical AI that some people, like Volound, want, I find the AI’s straight forward attack or wait for the player to approach and flank only with cavalry to be much more realistic than some mastermind small unit movement ai. Super complicated strategies are the things of movies or poets. 90% of ancient to medieval battles are straight up attacks with cavalry flanks or hold the high ground fights. The rest are a mix of the rare sneaky strategy or tactics, like a night raid or fire attack. Realistically, you have to keep it simple or else the average illiterate recruit, conscript or if you’re lucky, soldier won’t understand it or get confused when there are inevitably complications. Medieval and ancient battles were not some tactical chessboard. Also, it’s just fun to send Roman legions to fight and die, and I find myself caring more about Rome than other major civilizations in other Total War games.
Well, for tribes i can understand the thought of female rulers, in the end they were suprisingly equal in Celtic tribes. They just had to be able to stand tall for themselves and then they could get an army and some roman booty. It is not realistic for Romans or Greeks...

Rome II Launch was garbage, but after revisiting it after like a year, I played the fuck out of it for ages. I'm getting tired of it more recently, but I honestly think at the moment it's one of the best yet.
seriosuly though it started so bad but it was pretty fun although one thing that still dissapoints me is how under powered flanking is because it is very hard to pull off insane wins like in Atilla but that at the same time can make it more fun as winning battles with only like a pikeman, a spearman, a sword man, 2 ranged units, and some cav against Hunnic death stacks gets boring after a while

I actually liked Rome II quite a bit. Yeah, I know I’m weird. My biggest issue was that once you got to even just a medium size, you would snowball and become unstoppable really easily. Even a civil war was just a slight inconvenience
The battle AI can definitely be...interesting. But yeah, this game will perpetually have a bad rap despite the fact that I had some pretty fun times with it as well.

I actually liked Rome II quite a bit. Yeah, I know I’m weird. My biggest issue was that once you got to even just a medium size, you would snowball and become unstoppable really easily. Even a civil war was just a slight inconvenience
Have you used any mods? It's nice to see Rome getting so big :)
