Parallel routing of delay and reverb is such a great sound. I didn’t know it could be done on a single unit with something this old. But this stuff came out about the time I was learning to walk, so that’s my excuse.
Right! Impulse response and similar tech is a huge milestone in guitar gear. It was definitely the missing puzzle-piece since the advent of digital tone.
Wow, sx-700 routing looks very similar to mpx-1. A lot of the UI actually, gotta wonder if there's same people involved or just "inspiration". That's a sweet selling point. The gold preamp looks very nice, but something about the visual design of these still makes me think of those later Lexicons for live mixer racks and cheap home studios.
Haha yeah, the sx700 does sound pretty dang good once you dial it in and get the routing how you want, they always sell right away when I put em up for sale. The only reason I don’t keep em is because I have a pile of Lexicons
Picked up a gx700 due to your video’s! Thank you, great stuff. I can’t find out if these units have a delay trail setting when switching patches, do they?
@@petterjanse8540 woah, interesting, I never figured that out. I liked that you could do pitch shift and chorus at the same time though! Super 80s clean
The SE70 is more idiosyncratic and capable of extreme weirdness and the 700 is a meat and potatoes effects workhorse with a more conventional operational feel.
I have a two notes pedal in the loop of the GX-700 then. I think I just put the units in series for this video, normally there would be more channels lit up on my Apollo if I was running the effects in parallel

I found an old Roland foot controller in a thrift store that works well for units like this where you’re mostly recalling presets and maybe using the attached expression control for CC messaging to a gain or effects parameter

I was pleased to listen not retro rack, but a person who showed him.
And for some reason, this reminds Eric Johnson.
Thanks, Clifton!

Haha that’s awesome!
Agreed. The Alesis Q2 (1994) and Q20 had virtual patch cable that you could do all kinds of routing.
@@_mysilentblue2227 yeah, I have a Yamaha fx900 that also has an overwhelming amount of internal effects routing options
Can the GX do parallel internal routing?
Some epic toneage going on there Clifton 👍👍👍
That is a killer sound. Sounds like Greg Koch picked up Eric Johnson's rig and started to cook. Love it.
Thanks man! Love them both!
You seriously quoted "Hemispheres"? You are officially my hero.
Haha I guess I didn’t go obscure enough to fly under the radar!
Awesome!....that guitar is stunning too. I've never seen a G&L Jazzmaster. I heard some Rush in there!
Thanks! Yeah they call it a Doheny. It’s
kinda jazzmaster adjacent and a really nice tone for tracking rhythm parts
Great video, dude. These are amazing units. I've owned both.
Thank you! The sx700 is surprisingly nice sounding for a boss multieffect.
Wow! The IRs make a big difference! Sounds great!

@@cliftonwright7081 Thanks Clifton! I’ve just bought a GT5 (again - 3rd one!) and will try putting an IR pedal in the FX loop. Cheers, Dean
@@deanandthebeans857 hope it works out for you buddy, I made a video with the GT5 into a two notes and I thought it sounded pretty rad with a tele

Thanks man, I appreciate you swinging by the ole channel!
Muy bueno amigo! Killer sounds
Gracias, Maestro!
I use a GX700 in the effects loop of a JMP1 mostly for the Modulation.
Yeah, it does those pretty well! I think you can use detune and chorus simultaneously
You are a killer player
Thanks for the kind words!
didn't know Michael Anthony Hall could play guitar😎
Hell yes

I’m not sure! I’ll poke around and see what I can find. I kinda doubt it, but I’m not certain.

Hey Clifton! Two questions... the SX700 is somehow similar to the SE70? Do you know if there is a stereo IR Loader from Two notes? Thank you
The SE70 is more idiosyncratic and capable of extreme weirdness and the 700 is a meat and potatoes effects workhorse with a more conventional operational feel.
I think the two notes wall of sound plug-in can do stereo? I dunno, I recommend googling that one
Are you connecting SX - 700 into the loop of GX - 700 or is this a serial ceonnecting? please answer

Just bought this unit on your recommendation wondering if u can get a foot controller like the Roland FC 100
I found an old Roland foot controller in a thrift store that works well for units like this where you’re mostly recalling presets and maybe using the attached expression control for CC messaging to a gain or effects parameter
I think the programming flexibility would be better from a newer controller so you don’t have to have all your desired patches in a row in the unit
Can this unit do modulated reverb with the routing abilities?
Sure can! Just gotta route the verb block in series with a modulation block
