  • Join me on an eventful subway and shuttle bus ride from the Boston Public Library in Back Bay to Harvard University during a service change where the Red Line subway didn't run past Kendall/MIT. I was met with poor wayfinding, unclear directions, and plenty of traffic.

You're absolutely right about signs and wayfinding! While I lived in Boston for years, it takes a non-regular user of the T to point this out. 12:32 That stairway has an overhead directional sign "Red Line - Ashmont/Braintree" directing you down to that side platform. To the right of that sign is another, "Red Line - All Trains" with a right-pointing arrow. That takes you to either the center platform for, yes, "all trains", but also the separate stair, which you took at 15:38 (signed "Red Line - Alewife"). They could easily add BOTH train destinations above the "All Trains" sign. I'm guessing that at some point someone decided that Ashmont/Braintree-bound passengers should be directed to the wall platform *first* (it's wider) rather than the center platform, where Red Line trains in both directions stop (narrower platform, and more crowded if two trains arrive simultaneously). But for those at the Green Line-level at Park Street it's not intuitive, and confusing, for Alewife (and Harvard)-bound passengers.
Someone should make a walk-through video at Park Street, and send it to the T's GM! (Who came to Boston after heading up the LIRR in NY, ironically!)

It was really confusing to get to the correct spot on the Red Line from the Green Line at Park Street! I think they need clearer signs for sure.

@@Neville60001 The state let the train track go so long before working on them. Know that they waited so long and it has too many issues taking a long time to fix.. Every weekend they shuttle from Braintree T station to Park Street or any station on the Red line. I don't know what they are doing with money for the tracks but it seems for the past couple of years nothing has changed on this line. They care about the orange line more than the red. The orange line is up and running better. I have no clue when they will finish with the Red line.
