That’s why Slash is great. For every technique obsessed guitar nerd who sh1ts on him, there’s a hundred other guitarists and a thousand non-guitarists who love his playing.
I can't explain how good it was for Guns 'n' Roses fans. after years and years of Axl shenagians, rumors about Chinese Democracy (which I did not like when it eventually released) and the overall trajectory hard rock took during the nineties, when Slither released. Slash, Duff and Matt make a fantastic team and Velvet Revolver was simply amazing.
It must have been a rude awakening for Axl that after he'd shown nothing but contempt for the fans and his band members and managed to force them to sign over everything to him, he woke up with all of them gone and thinking that he now WAS GnR, only to see the fans disagreeing. And then came the problems with replacing his former band members, which was one of the main reasons why Chinese Democracy took so long and wasn't the success Axl had hoped. Even though it took him a long time to swallow his pride and pretty much beg the others to return to GnR.
Such a good take. I remember with my buddies being so excited for this record. It came out, and was so great, I couldn’t believe how great it was. Seeing them tour that first record was awesome too. Scott was really on point when we saw them and he was unreal, fronting a band that strong. Didn’t last long, but it was sure great while it lasted.
This is the first single from Velvet Revolver's debut album, Contraband. In an interview with Scott Weiland, he talked about this song's meaning. Said Weiland: "The lyrics are about a relationship. 'When you look you see right through me, cut the rope, fell to my knees, born and broken every single time.' It's just feeling not right in a situation."
Hey Elizabeth, Tim the guitar player here again with some more insight for you. The screeching you are referring to in the beginning are a techniques called 'pick scrapes', which is exactly what it sounds like, just scraping the side of the pick along the guitar strings. Here there are using more quick jabbing types to give it a more jarring sound. The revving sound you mentioned is just a glissando as the guitarists slide their fingers along the fretboard of the guitar, sliding up and down the notes throughout the range of movement with their finger(s). The interesting thing here is that, because of the effects and guitar tone, including distortion, are what make it sound so pronounced giving it that extra 'revving' sound. So, on guitar tone... well, now you have opened a BIG can of worms. There are many things that guitarists do to try and achieve different guitar tones and timbre of their guitar tone. There are so many different elements of this that are often argued upon by guitarists and sound engineers on which are valid ones, and other are just 'guitar sales hype'. Another thing of note is that over-adjusting one thing in this chain, may affect the usefulness and expressiveness of the guitar tone, yet this is also arbitrary depending upon the desires of the guitar player, and the musical context in which they are using it at that particular time. There is also am element of a guitar player physicality and playing that is distinct to them that also influences and creates the tone they have while playing guitar, hence 2 different guitar players can play the same guitar and equipment, and sound different. There is so much more I can expand on this, but I was trying to present a detailed enough basic explanation, without it becoming a novella. Ha! On Slash's playing and musicality.... yet he is very good at creating guitar riffs and solos with musical purpose and intention. What Slash is playing here is mainly from the blues musical style, that has become the basis for rock music and guitar players. The thing that most people don't know is that Slash actually has a very full understanding of the true blues musical style, more so than most guitar players, and has come you figure out how to use it in a distinct rock music context, even though he is playing a lot of rock guitar cliches that a lot of rock guitar players use. There is a video of him playing with the guitar player, Les Paul,, at Les's club from year ago where Slash demonstrate his deep understanding of actually blues music and styles. Most guitar players can recognize this in this video. BTW, if you want to hear another guitar player, who write mainly instrumental guitar music, for comparison on hearing melodies and tones on guitar, I suggest my favorite.... Joe Satriani.... and I will start by suggesting a couple of different songs. First I would suggest the album 'Surfing With The Alien', which this album alone would broaden your mind of what sounds can actually be produced by a guitar player, and the songs, 'Surfing With the Alien' and 'Always With Me, Always With You'. His next album, 'Flying In A Blue Dream' does have him singing on a couple of tracks, but I would recommend the songs, 'Flying In A Blue Dream', 'The Forgotten part 2'. Then lastly I would recommend 'Summer Song' from his next album, The Extremist'. Listening to Joe will definitely expanding your sonic understanding of the guitar, and when you actually look into hist history and see all the successful player of today, that were students of his, you will understand why. Cheers, Tim
Tim, Thank you for the additional information. I had no idea the revving sound was done on the guitar. That’s wild how many different sounds can be created. GnR fan. I’d be really interested to see the video of him and Les Paul. Where can I find it? I had Joe Satriani’s Surfing with the Alien. Cool. I also liked Yngwie Malmsteen. And others. Lol.
RUclips comment dections get a bad rep (deservedly so too), but this kind of stuff shows why they're worth it. Thanks Tim, we appreciate you and the knowledge you imparted!
Spot on. One thing I've always loved about Slash, you know it's him playing without knowing anything else about the music. Super unique tone and technique.
@@JanneRasanen2 And the master of them both, Jimi Hendrix. And probably Jimi Page, too, who adds his own version of the blues. I saw Velvet Revolver on the Contraband tour. Scott Weiland was beyond charismatic.
Slash's guitar almost sounds like it's singing at times. It's just so good. I have seen him live and Scott Weiland a few times. Scott was just a magician up on stage. The absolute perfect front man. So sad his demons ran a little faster than he could in life.
@@johnphillipsjr7238 I completely agree as far as tone of singing and his style. Layne was not the showman or had the charisma. But I will not dispute your opinion
That to me is what makes Slash so great... I often see him being hailed for his chops but Jeff Beck, Satch, MAB, etc could wipe the floor with him in that regard. Or that his bluesmanship is top shelf, next in line to the three Kings... but again Samantha Fish, Kingfish, etc can brew up some downright soulful yet deliciously nasty blues that goes far beyond his reach. But... What Slash does is he brings a melodic ebb and flow, an incredible use of tension and release, extraordinary expression and a unique blend of tonal palates that somehow retains a unique personality. With this he elevates a song to greater heights than other wise possible. Turning an otherwise great piece into an actual masterwork. In my mind this is much more important. Yeah his top hat is cool, and he does play a mean blues and can play pretty darn fast... But it's his absolutely commanding expression and just raw energy that take a great piece of music and elevate it to a transcendental experience. All that technique and vocabulary are great to learn because if you're careful and nurture them properly you may have more options to express yourself. Eddie Van Halen was another master and he had his own toolkit, so it's good to have options, and perhaps some of these will allow you to truly express yourself. I think of Slash with regards to Bird, or any of the other truly greats. Can he play guitar while blindfolded , riding a motorcycle on a tightrope and nodding at a different time signature? I doubt it, but can play something that will knock your socks off and make your life better just for experiencing it? surprisingly yes and pretty much consistently. To me that is what you wish to do in any art form, convey your message and man can he express himself I don't think he's like David Gilmour, but neither is Eric Clapton or was Chick Corea, that doesn't make them or David Gilmour bad it just makes them unique. The world is better for this.
I saw one of Velvet Revolver's last shows before Scott Weiland passed away. They put on an amazing performance mixing Guns N Roses, Stone Temple Pilot and Velvet Revolver songs. So much energy and power and rock all in one show. Absolutley amazing and a tragedy that it was ended far too soon. RIP Scott Weiland.
That bass at the start is fire, Duff McKagan is such an underrated bass player. If you want to see him at his best then I highly recommend Rocket Queen by Guns N Roses, Live in Tokyo 1992 as Duff absolutely kills it on bass. As for Velvet Revolver, I couldn't wait to hear their first album with it being Slash, Duff and Matt from GNR along up with Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots. Scott was perfect for this band on vocals but unfortunately his drug habit got the better of him which led to the demise of the band after just two albums and also the demise of Scott. Velvet Revolver really could've been one of the best rock bands. FYI, Slash wears the dark glasses as he can't look at a crowd for more than a few seconds, gives him stage fright otherwise.
Slash is one of my favourite guitarists. He's a got a real grove to his playing and a very blues based feel. The guitar is one of the more emotive instruments and you can feel that with Slash. He just has a feel and tone in his fingers that translates how he feels the music to the guitar and the sounds that come out of it..
As a lifelong musician I really appreciate how Elizibeth is able to point to things I might have just taken for granted. Respect for her full musical knowledge not just limited to vocal.
I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who benefits from coaching in these videos, and like you said, not just the vocals. The 'wow, she's so on point' moments are real.
I loved your monologue about Slash's playing. From a technical/virtuosity point of view, he's not even in the top 20-30 guitarists I've seen live. But...there's something about his playing style that hotwires my soul, so I'd sooner listen to him than any other guitarist. Sometimes rationality doesn't enter into it.
I appreciate the technical players, but that appreciation is mostly intellectual. Slash is one of those players that lights up the intuitive side of my mind and makes me deeply feel. So so good.
I’m so glad you’re getting into Velvet Revolver one of the best bands that Slash put together. I would not consider this grunge however this is just straight up rock ‘n’ roll my dear and it’s so damn good! It truly sucks that Scott Weiland could not break his habit. Because I wish they could’ve put out many more albums.
I also gotta say you nailed it slashes guitar playing is especially his lead playing in a lead part so musical! There are tons of crazy talented, very proficient guitarist out there, but only a select view have such musicality when playing their leads
I think I commented this on your “Fall to Pieces” video, but it bares repeating. Weiland was the most versatile vocalist to come from his generation of frontmen. Miss the hell out of him.
yessss, this is one of my favorite songs of all time !!!! I have such a core memory watching this music video late at night on vh1 when I was like 13 😂
Genuinely excited by this one. The guitar is so good. This is one of my favorite's from Slash and will always make me drive way too fast when it comes on.
I wish you would check out the MTV Unplugged version of Plush. Scott Weiland’s voice live & absolutely beautiful ❤️ Of interest: you can clearly see his EXTREMELY ODD tongue position while singing!
When Scott Weiland was asked about the meaning of this song, he said that it "means whatever you think it means", which might be the most artist response I've ever heard. Also, the entire "Contraband" album by Velvet Revolver is fire!
"In a world he did not create, but he goes through it as it was his own making. Half man half beast. I'm not sure what it is,but it's weird, it's pissed off and it calls itself Slash." Axel Rose
Listening to someone like you with your expertise breaking down the music that has been my life for ages. It's fascinating listening to your appreciation for some very talented rockers..Slash brings it live too..
I really enjoy you describing Slash's guitar work. For me, he is of a handful of guitarists who after a couple notes you know it is him. His early work with Izzy Stradlin in Gn'R's is simply amazing!
I still remember hearing this song for the first time. I caught it after the song had started and when that solo hit, I said, “Woah - that’s Slash.” He has such a signature tone and style - I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do that with any other guitarist. (Okay… maybe Tom Morello, but that’s more about his creativity.)
Pretty much my same reaction. The song started and I thought "Hey, this sounds kinda GunsNRosey, cool!". Then suddenly "Whoah, that's Slash!", next "That's Duff? What's going on!" and finally "Isn't that lizard-like dude the singer from STP?"
You have already reviewed a few Scott Weiland songs, but as a big fan of his vocals, I think it would be cool if you could compare/contrast his styles in different songs. His vocals are SO different from "interstate Love song" versus "Big Empty" versus "Sour Girl". Then add in Plush or even his cover of "Walking in a Winter wonderland". The guy was a chameleon when it came to getting different tones from his voice.
I was fortunate enough to see Velvet Revolver live. As GNR being one of my top bands this line up was incredible. Scott Weiland was the epitome of what a rock star is. His performance was insane when I saw him. Wish he was still here.
This has a very Stone Temple Pilots influence in the vocals for sure…with Slash and Duff brining in their Guns influence. Love the mix of both…a true super group.
I’m starting vocal lessons next week and I’m excited to start my vocal journey and getting to the point where I can enjoy your videos on another level!
So glad to see your love for Slash’s playing. I’m sure it’s been recommended before, but I think his work in the song “Estranged” is some of the most amazing out there.
Scott did a Christmas album around 2011 where he covered some Bing Crosby and others that I think you would definitely enjoy, he also joined the Doors on a live performance that was really great as well
Scott Weiland did a live duet with Cyndi Lauper of Scott's 'Barbarella' from Decades Rock Live a few years ago. Really shows off his Glam/Bowie inspirations and his stage presence.
Iv'e been watching your reaction videos for awhile now and I have to say I really enjoy "your" reaction videos over any others here on RUclips. You don't stop the song as often as others, and instead might go back and "re-hear" to make your points. it's much less of an interruption that way, so thank you. You also clearly show and can explain to us how much knowledge and experience you have in this dissection of songs we love, (and may not even know why we love them until you explain it). I wanted to request a few artists and their songs for you to listen to and maybe put on RUclips so I went to your website. It just says to put it in the comments here or on Patreon, so I'm putting it here. I've gone through a lot of the songs here but have yet to see you react to hardly any "Country" music or Country artists. There are a lot of very talented country singers out there with just naturally born singing ability that really pull on the heart strings and envoke a strong almost uncontrollable emotional response. To name a few,: Leanne Rhimes (Blue, Amazing Grace, How can I live without you) Alison Krouse (Whiskey Lullaby, When you say nothing at all, Down to the river to pray) Sarah Evans (I could not ask for more) Maddie and Tay (After the storm blows *tear jerker*,) Raelynn (God made girls *happy tears*) Kenny Chesney (Me and you, There goes my life, When I close my eyes,)
You absolutely need to listen to "Fall to Pieces". I love your comments on Slash. Technically, he is a very solid player but the feel of his playing is next level. His solos always hit precisely when they need to and go on for the right amount of time. I have never listened to a solo from GnR, VR or his solo stuff and thought "that was too much " or "not enough", they are always satisfying and exactly what the song needed.
About 'guitar appreciation': I'm a bassist, so as tradition requires and our Esoteric Guild of Mind Control Through Low Ends demands, know pretty much squat about Musical Theory (and Real Musicians will back me up on that last one). Once cleared, I think regarding guitar it all boils down to the contrast of Technique vs. Feeling. It's a bit of Romanticism vs. Baroque, more or less; I call it (pause for breath), The Satriani-Malmsteen Dichotomy. For me it's more important WHAT sensation and feelings the notes convey, rather than how fast possible thay can be played. Lately Slash has been growing on me in this sense; not how much he can shred, but how precise and well colocated are those notes. Exaltation of the senses and I insist, the feelings. I guess you can call me a Romantic, but I'll deny it in any Court of Law.
I saw Slash w/Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators a few years ago. Great show, they had a couple Velvet Revolver & G N' R tunes in the mix. Myles Kennedy has an amazing voice.
I loved grunge from day 1. It was guys my age making music and taking over the scene. The rock influences from earlier decades and the introspective lyrics were so relatable to those of us in our 20s at the time. I was lucky enough to be living in the Seattle area during the height of it all.
Saw Velvet Revolver in London, January 2005. They were 45 minutes late coming on stage, probably something to do with Scott at the time I think we were told. Still, what I did get to see was excellent, including Slither.
Scott's versatility is so understated! It's no wonder he was such a commodity. Wore his influences on his sleeves, approached so many stylings across a broad spectrum and made it look so easy. Most eclectic body of work of a singer from the grunge era, imo! Tracing his vocal evolution is a trip worth taking. I still wish we could have gotten a proper Doors x Weiland tour, the one-off show we glimpsed of that was magic. Left field request, I'd love to see you take on the music video to Ninja Sex Party's "Danny Don't You Know". Because dreams do come true and it's nice to remember it's never too late to hit your stride in life.
I know I’ve been suggesting Smashing Pumpkins mercilessly, but if you’re going down the grunge hole, you can’t leave out the Screaming Trees and Mark Lanegan. I swear he’s worth listening to. A deeper register than the grunge era singers you’ve been exposed to.
wee tidbit of information in regards to slash covering his eyes, he wrote in his autobiography how he used to deal with stage-fright using his hat and glasses / hair etc
Never really listened to this band back then. I grew up as a young teen listening to GnR, and as an older teen listening to STP. Velvet Revolver's first album came out a couple of years after Layne Staley has passed. Seeing this music video back then, I couldn't help but see Weiland here on the edge of self destruction. I just couldn't fathom losing another voice at the time, so I just set it aside for a later time in my life to listen to. Maybe now I can hear it with a little time inflicted wisdom on my side. A reminder to be grateful for this life.
For me, the easiest way to describe slashes playing is that he puts the emotion of the song into his solo.. and then he can shred he will put the emotion of the meaning of the lyrics so he will pull the vocal line into his solo.. so, in short... only he knows where his lead is going to and ends up at... but he will make it a fun ride
I think it was Chris Jericho who described Slash's playing as "greasy" and it makes total sense to me. Fills in all the cracks and covers everything in its path.
@@thomasjones2377 no description stops them from being awesome at their jobs. I had never heard a description like that but yeah...soupy, sludgy, greasy...whatever works!
I was looking though my LP's and pulled out The Plasmatics, now I'm on a punk rock trip, from the beginning to modern day. I love how music can bring back memory's of moments forgotten
Thanx for this great reaction/analysis of Slither! I remember hearing Slither when it was first released on radio and I couldn't wait for the album. I recognized Slash's guitar work right away. I then won a trip to the grand opening of the new Hard Rock Cafe on Broadway in NYC with Velvet Revolver playing live!! I watched them with my jaw on the floor for the whole show. I was 20 feet from the stage in front of Slash. They played Velvet Revolver, Guns 'N' Roses and Stone Temple Pilots tracks including Slither. Just an amazing show.
Love Slither. ❤ Also Fall to Pieces. Scott was also in Stone Temple Pilots (great name btw). I recommend the album Core. If you’re deep diving into grunge, Chris Cornell and Soundgarden are a must. I recommend the Superunknown album. Also earlier tracks Outshined and Rusty Cage. Definitely want to join the grunge class. I lived through it so I’d love to hear your perspective. Elizabeth, may I just say you are delightful to watch. You’re so expressive, knowledgeable and funny. The way you explain things really resonates with me. And I often giggle at terms like “mouth ninja” that you come up with. I love it! ❤😂 The first song I saw you cover was Korn’s Freak on a Leash and I’ve been hooked ever since.
I had the privilege of seeing Velvet Revolver in Aug 2007 at Pine Knob in Clarkston, MI. It was one of the memorable shows I've ever seen. It was a mix of VR, GnR, and STP. The band was amazing. Scott Wieland's vocals were absolutely memorable. I never thought he was recognized as a powerhouse vocalist. The collection of talent on that stage was just staggering. This was also the tour that relaunched Alice In Chains and introduced all of us to William DuVall.
It’s actually Prague, Czech Republic. I know every single road she drives through. You can see the Hradcany, very iconic. And the bone setting kinda reminds me of Kostnice Sedlec. Google it and you’ll understand.
Slash brings a Les Paul through a Marshall amp like nobody else. His tone is completely his own. And then he steps on a wah pedal and it gets even better 🤘😍🤘💕
I would also recommend checking out a couple not typically heard VR tunes, "Gravedancer", and "You Got No Right". Great songs and great vocals. And, if you decide to step back into some Stone Temple Pilots, I strongly recommend, "Bi-Polar Bear", "Sour Girl", and "Take a Load Off". Great Tunes
I really recommend watching " Set Me Free" by VR when they perform Live TV 2008 for Germany. You can see/hear a lot of his vocal changes change to suit the song. It's really amazing. A lot of people say his voice degraded from all the screams, but he gets this tone at 1:19 in the video which I think really upgrades the heavy sound of Velvet Revolver. So if it did degrade, it degraded with absolute style which is VERY Scott❤. Also his voice just upgrades GNR's " It's so Easy" I think Axl's is flat compared to Scott's which just feels more alive. Cool comparison video if you want to check that out as well ❤. Really enjoy your videos, because you take a lot more into consideration.
he had a nasty eating disorder that worsened out of pressuring himself to be in tip top shape as the frontman of a band that was basically Guns N'Roses without Axl
So much Scott weiland for you to explore. He sounds different in every Stone Temple Pilots Album and he also did a solo Christmas album that always give me Bing Crosby vibes
@@TheCharismaticVoice I would recommend their song "Anastasia" if for no other reason (aside from being a great song) than to hear Slash do Bach's Toccata and Fuque in D Minor on guitar!
@@musiman28good elements but when I think of classic GNR sound that gets me moving and grooving it is Adler & Izzy just as much or more than Duff & Slash. Adler will always be my favorite GNR drummer.
Scott had a lot of range snd could really switch up his voice well. I dont know how much STP stuff youve done, but if you havent already check out Big Empty or Interstate Love Song.
I love the way Elizabeth shows us her emotions. I definitely like this channel a lot since I discovered it, but I would like Elizabeth's reaction to "Civil War" by Guns And Roses. That beautiful song should be high on her list of reactions. It's my favorite song of theirs. Its lyrics, its melody, those emotions expressed by Axel Rose, need to be heard by Elizabeth. I recommend the studio version, I love it. But, if you want another option I would recommend the Live in Tokyo (1992) or Live in the Ritz (1991). Thanks a lot. 🙏🏻

Thank you for the additional information.
When Satriani is mentioned his student Steve Vai deserves a mention too.
Very well stated! When Scott was on, no one was better!! So confident and cocky!!!

@@jimmccoys5778Layne Stayley is the GOAT. END OF STORY
To me that is what you wish to do in any art form, convey your message and man can he express himself
I don't think he's like David Gilmour, but neither is Eric Clapton or was Chick Corea, that doesn't make them or David Gilmour bad it just makes them unique.
ME TOO! 2005, what a great year.
Elizabeth analyzing Velvet Revolver? My Monday morning suddenly went a lot better!!!
R.I.P Scott, Layne, Chris. Some of the best male voices of our time. Appreciate your show here
Don’t forget Kurt dude, It’s been 30 years. I don’t understand how I can miss people I’ve never met… but here we are.
@@chainsmoke3328 Yep, thought about that after I wrote that. So many have come and marked our lives and gone before their time🤘
I know they robbed us of potential good. Music for many years
I was in high school when this came out and remember being so excited that GnR and STP were colliding. This song is legendary.
This whole album was amazing. Still one I love to listen to beginning to end.
Elizabeth your expressions and facial contortions make watching your videos so great. The in depth analysis to me are stellar. Keep up the awesome job
Duff is the man
Duff is a boss! Seriously though I always wondered about Slash’s sunglasses. Never knew that one. Thanks for the tidbit!
Duff is awesome and is just another great musician from Washington State. He lives not far from me.
Duff is one of my favorites for sure.
Duff is very underrated and one of the inspirations for me learning bass along with Greg K and Mike Inez.
Feel this entirely. Sometimes it feels like hearing a song for the first time again, once you understand all the nuance...
@@paulelverstone8677 excatly!
I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who benefits from coaching in these videos, and like you said, not just the vocals. The 'wow, she's so on point' moments are real.
@@valleyguy633 That's what i'm talking about, she gets it.
That's a solid critique....and echos my own thoughts.
I appreciate the technical players, but that appreciation is mostly intellectual. Slash is one of those players that lights up the intuitive side of my mind and makes me deeply feel. So so good.
Slash himself admits he’s not the most technically gifted. But he is incredibly musical, and plays with great colors and emotion with attitude.
So many technical players cant write a fucking song. Thats the difference.
Shows how musically ignorant someone is to say he's not technically sound or even a top 20 player, I bet you could do better eh?
I’m so glad you’re getting into Velvet Revolver one of the best bands that Slash put together. I would not consider this grunge however this is just straight up rock ‘n’ roll my dear and it’s so damn good! It truly sucks that Scott Weiland could not break his habit. Because I wish they could’ve put out many more albums.
I also gotta say you nailed it slashes guitar playing is especially his lead playing in a lead part so musical! There are tons of crazy talented, very proficient guitarist out there, but only a select view have such musicality when playing their leads
Weiland is my favorite vocalist to arise from the 90s. Thanks for doing this one!
He is the most Versatile some STP Albums were not Grunge at all . she needs to play Sour Girl with the Video.
STP and Alice in Chains have always been my favourite grunge bands. Sure, the others are good too, but these two bands always resonated with me more.
I think I commented this on your “Fall to Pieces” video, but it bares repeating. Weiland was the most versatile vocalist to come from his generation of frontmen. Miss the hell out of him.
yessss, this is one of my favorite songs of all time !!!! I have such a core memory watching this music video late at night on vh1 when I was like 13 😂
This is such a sexy song. Everything about it feels charged and smooth. Still gives me chills. RIP Scott!
Genuinely excited by this one. The guitar is so good. This is one of my favorite's from Slash and will always make me drive way too fast when it comes on.
I wish you would check out the MTV Unplugged version of Plush. Scott Weiland’s voice live & absolutely beautiful ❤️
Of interest: you can clearly see his EXTREMELY ODD tongue position while singing!
Slither, Fall to Pieces and Set Me Free.. best Velvet songs for me
She did "Fall to Pieces" already. Thumbs up for "Set me free" though!
One of the greatest rock vocalists of all time...without question
When Scott Weiland was asked about the meaning of this song, he said that it "means whatever you think it means", which might be the most artist response I've ever heard.
Also, the entire "Contraband" album by Velvet Revolver is fire!
Actually in an interview he has explained what the song means.
It's amazing !!
Agreed! I think "Big Machine" is a underrated song from that Album that'd be cool to see on here.
I think Slither had a double meaning. Not sure if I remember if he said it in a video once...mightve been the making of video...
It’s kinda sad to know that Scott thought that VR was something made with the main purpose of be popular
"In a world he did not create, but he goes through it as it was his own making. Half man half beast. I'm not sure what it is,but it's weird, it's pissed off and it calls itself Slash."
Axel Rose
forgot how much i love the chorus of this song, thanks for this one!
Too many of my 90's idols are gone now. Scott was any and every singer you'd ever need. So many melodies in so many different ways.
ZERO GENERATION: REBELLION: PROMOTE: "VELVET REVOLVER".."OTHERWORLDLY ROCK 'N' ROLL ANIMAL KICK-ASS-BAND.."S.O. T. T...2024"..
So many better songs than slither to choose from that would showcase Scott's voice more.

Scott did a Christmas album around 2011 where he covered some Bing Crosby and others that I think you would definitely enjoy, he also joined the Doors on a live performance that was really great as well
I’ve got an STP import where he sang the old Charlie Brown song “Christmas time is here”

Im so glad you're doin more velvet revolver!! such a great band!
Scott Weiland did a live duet with Cyndi Lauper of Scott's 'Barbarella' from Decades Rock Live a few years ago. Really shows off his Glam/Bowie inspirations and his stage presence.
I was just thinking how there were moments in this song where Scott's vocals reminded me of David Bowie!
To name a few,:
Leanne Rhimes (Blue, Amazing Grace, How can I live without you)
Alison Krouse (Whiskey Lullaby, When you say nothing at all, Down to the river to pray)
Sarah Evans (I could not ask for more)
Maddie and Tay (After the storm blows *tear jerker*,)
Raelynn (God made girls *happy tears*)
Kenny Chesney (Me and you, There goes my life, When I close my eyes,)
I'm so glad I was able to see S.T.P. and Velvet Revolver before Scott passed.
She did that song on her channel before she did this one.
You never ever need someone to tell you “ that’s Slash” you just know
Your face during the solo…..priceless!!
What makes grunge “grunge “ raw gritty no vocal or instrumental rules .. I love it ! Grateful I got to be there start to finish.
I love a lot of Slash's collaborations. Myles Kennedy, Lenny Kravitz, Halestorm, and even a great song with Fergie "Beautiful Dangerous"
"You Got No Right" is my favorite song on the album.
That was one that I had never heard, but I really enjoyed that. Thank you for your reaction!
R I.P. Mark Lanegan ❤
I would love Elizabeth to do a Mark Lanegan song, something from Bubblegum
Sideways in Reverse? Methenphetamine Blues? The Gravedigger's Song would be awesome! Leviathan?
Really enjoyed this reaction ... nicely done. Thank you
wee tidbit of information in regards to slash covering his eyes, he wrote in his autobiography how he used to deal with stage-fright using his hat and glasses / hair etc
@stevetremblay961 yes! That is the absolute best way to describe slashes playing. Lol leave it to Jericho...
@stevetremblay961 and well Tony Iommi's playing was best described as "sludgy" lol so why not "greasy"...lol

Huge Weiland fan. Fun as always watching you encounter music and learning things from your perspective and training as well!
I love it! ❤😂
The first song I saw you cover was Korn’s Freak on a Leash and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Slash don't play for guitar players, he plays for you.
This is a brilliant song! I’m sure setting of the video is supposed to be the Catacombs in Paris. Love guitars & bass on this song. 😝🤘🏻
It’s actually Prague, Czech Republic.

Great Tunes
saw them live and this song was one of the best openings to a concert I'd seen! the intro hit so hard 🙌
The first band I heard when I was young and I was trapped immediately…. Fabulous band
Scott looks so unwell here😢 rip sweet angel
he had a nasty eating disorder that worsened out of pressuring himself to be in tip top shape as the frontman of a band that was basically Guns N'Roses without Axl
