Tomb raider has a new game coming out and in it they hope to put behind their "Tomb raider" past to focus instead on becoming "archealogical explorers" including a diverse cast of DEI checklist characters.
How to fix the problem of her raiding tombs of other cultures, have her get hired by that culture for X reasons. Have her work with Culture Y to recover some kind of artifact of cultural importance. It's not a hard idea, but it seems like they want to push a message over having a simple reason why it's not doing a colonialism.

You can thank private equity and the embracer group. They bought out the studio and dozens more with a plan to create a giant conglomerate that they could then sell off for a huge profit. Then the Federal reserve raised interest rates and they couldn't find a buyer.
It really needs to be bigger news. There's like 30 series that are just dead now because they were trying to get rich doing no work.
I watched the same thing happened with anime back in the day where play distributor named ADV bought up a ton of shows planning for a buyout. Then they didn't have the money to release them after the buyout never came and they went under taking the shows with them

You noticed UNCHARTED and TOMB RAIDERS have the same game play but a different look. Put Nathan in tomb Raider and Lara in Uncharted

Lara Croft as a character didn’t give a crap about anything but going through falling caves obstacles and hot lava and viscous animals, humans and evil creatures to collect artifacts and treasures and she’s always been that way since the first game.

New Tomb Raiders games were trash and they lead to this happening. They never wanted Lara Croft, they wanted feminist depressed female Drake. Shadow of The Tomb Raider should have been the first game to boycott to avoid this.
This is as bad if not actually worse than when they altered dialogue in Um Jammer Lammy during the chainsaw stage because to the moral guardians "deforestation be bad".
So like honest question, that girl holding the compound bow in that Tomb Raider book or whatever that is, she's handicapped, missing the lower half of both her legs. I'm not sure what the name for kind of prosthetic is called, but anyone who's ever happened to be strapped to them before, are they stable? Like I see them used in sports all the time but are they stable enough on their own for people to stand and stand still? Cause just looking at them I'd imagine it's kinda like stilts or a bike where you kinda gotta keep moving to stay balanced?

I will embrace it. I'm okay with change. Laura is adapting to a new world. Times have changed , and raiding tombs is just not as profitable as it was. Never mind that all the bodies would eventually be noticed. So Laura works for universities getting her money from grants. I can imagine it playing like House of the Dead except you take pictures instead of shooting.
Boogie - this is some good content. No bullshit, no “obvious jokes”, just you sharing your genuine opinion. I was there when the first tr game was released and I loved it. I loved the graphics, the story, the innovative gameplay and looks. That was a game made to be enjoyable and not meant to teach us any particular lesson.
Boogie missed a huge mark with this one, since this is not a video game in development, but a table top RPG instead. True, a "woke" tabletop RPG, but still not a video game.

That cover art doesn't do a good job showing these old characters. I recognized Johan, but not the rest, although I haven't played the most recent game and it's been a while for the rest.

well every game hits a point where its no longer the same direction it started in. if a series goes long enough it always ends up getting adapted to some kind of modern agenda etc. at this point the only way that game developers will get the message gamers dont want this is if gamers dont get into these games or even contemplate buying them right ? money speaks to them in those terms.

At this point I am thinking problem of those wackos at Crystal Dynamics is not message, it's the fact that with previous games people they don't like had fun. So they need to make sure no one is going to have fun with the new one other than specter of "modern audience" that somehow still fails to financially back this sort of social experiments.

If they are trying to redefine the series, why are they keeping the "Tomb Raider" game. It's because they really don't care about the issues. They want to still keep all the money that comes with the name, but not the gameplay. Why not just make a whole new IP if they want to go this new route? Or a spinoff? Really sad because I loved this series.
Laura croft and sSamus aran are the two most bad ass women in gaming. There's no need to change anything about them.

Look at Lara Croft then look at the characters they want you to portray as Seekers in their TTRPG and video games. Compare and contrast. That's the reason she has to go away. The rest is just there to obfuscate that fact while enticing people who have no interest in these games into playing them, or at least not starting a cancel mob on social media.

I never thought about the connection between Lara Croft and colonialism before. But now you mention it, it is pretty fucked up actually😂. If I was in charge of the next Tomb Raider game, I would probably adress it by making Lara more of an insufferable aristocrat that you love to hate. I think that if you make it self aware, that would suffice.

I personally never got into the tomb raider franchise. But it is sad to see another i.p. ruined. Hopefully in the near future woke trash will be so hated and unprofitable that it will die off.
