We need a starter-level defensive stopper at the 2-guard/wing, period. That should be priority number 1, 2, 3, and 4 this off-season. Until we get that addressed this team won’t win. You’re exactly right re: Miles on defense. He can be good on ball, but he lapses off ball, and he’s never going to be a top tier defender. So if this front office and the new ownership are serious about winning they’ll address the lack of an on-ball defender who you can put on the other teams best player. Miles is good, but he isn’t that.
I think Melo will become a better defender as the team improves around him. He can jam people up a little bit when he gets into that mental space and locks in on D. Miles, PJ, Brandon etc can do the same thing at times. They are in a lot of these games and only need a little luck to be a solid middle of the pack team.
